Please don't take me wrong but I don't think a d-pad can be considered an improvement. It would make some levels totally pointless, and break the whole point of the game. So no, at least for now, Choco controls remain as they are.
Please strivemind, can you edit your post and add the 2nd trailer into it? I know many people just looks at that video and get away and I would like them to know right away how the game looks now. YouTube: video Thank you in advance!
That's too bad, cause right now for me and some other people we like the look the level design and visuals of the game, but it's practically unplayable with its current control scheme. At the very least it simply isn't fun. An alternate VC control option would have been nice. Ah well.
I think the control decision was excellent, but I noticed that the original version is a lot more fast-paced than 2.0. Would it be possible to return the game back to its original pace?
Well... actually 2.0 runs faster... The 1.0 video is speeded up, but the game wasn't as fast as that, with that video I just wanted to show a lot in the less possible time. But believe me, it's far smoother and faster right now.
Why not just play another game? It's jump mechanic is pretty integral to how the game was developed and designed, changing it isn't really a possibility. Your request for alternate controls, isn't as simple as say, giving a different option for input(eg, alternate configurations, tilt etc,) you are actually requesting more inputs, kind of like asking for a double-jump and a barrel-roll button in Resident Evil 1, totally pointless--the game isn't designed for any more inputs than what is there already.
Your explanation is simply perfect but I want to add a little to it: Being a platformer lover myself I knew I would have to defend the control scheme against opposers just because it's new and platformers are a rock solid genre that hasn't changed almost anything since the beginning. Everything new will have rejectors and lovers, always. I know they are different, but if I love them for me, every platformer lover out there can love them too when it gets used to them. I'm not just saying I think they work well, what I think is those controls were the best decision I could possibly have ever made. If anyone is scared of spending money without knowing if they will like the controls, notice we have a Lite version out there to try them out. You may love those one-touch hold and release controls too. I've got a video playing with my left hand when I'm not lefty and completing the first world, it's for version 1.0, but you'll get the idea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obGpfeXlSpA
