Thanks again Royce I mise well pick this up, I'm sure I'll get used to the controls. Well played for about an hour and wow the game is just about perfect. I could barely pull myself away from it I was a bit worried about the controls, but really they're just about perfect. The visuals are really pixel candy and the sounds well they're spot on. Anyone wanting a Galaxian fix need look no further. Oh and I have to say I love the app icon
Well, I thought the same things you have said here! Slow, easy, took too long to play, etc. Accurately stated, bud!
I love retro stuff but am hesitant to buy something that was created in one day. Why the hell would you market that way? Makes me think its either short, half baked, or just won't be on my ipad long. Guess ill just keep waiting for shadow run.
You can start from higher waves as you progress further, but since score gained for kills doesn't seem to increase, you can't come close to your own high score unless you go back and start from wave 1, which again makes for a very slow to start and long game. It's fun but still flawed I think in that regard. It would be better if, when starting from a higher wave, you got the same (highest) amount of lives and same score that you had when you reached that wave.
I think the basic game was made in one day, but he spent a lot longer polishing it up - if you like really old-school shooters, it's awesome.
Yup! I saw an article on 148 and assumed this would be months before it released. Because madgarden is madgarden, and even though I'm not a huge fan of the genre, I am picking it up. Anyone else here see Madgarden as this gens Jeff Minter, except a little less off the wall bonkers?
I'm wondering how long this game will be fun. Will it only be fun for an hour or so, or does it have a lot to offer? Also, what kind of achievements are there?
Is there a video? The sound effects are what I am mostly interested in hearing. Developer: How about making another classic game Gorf?
This is a must play for Galaga fans. A fantastic riff on the original formula with awesome boss battles, and a ship that plays like the one and only Enterprise. The check point system is also perfect. You can start new games from the most recently entered stage, but high scorers will have to start from the top. I'm past wave 40 and loving it.
Thanks for liking the games guys. somedumbgamer, yeah I didn't make it in one day, I spend a solid two weeks on it. I was going to just whip off a quickie one-day-or-so game, and I did have the bulk of it done in 3 days, but I felt at that point it was decent enough to polish up for a full release. Rad, there's a video review up on youtube... not sure if I'm allowed to link those, but it's easy enough to search out. And yeah I had a lot of fun doing this game, and will definitely do more short-order arcade-style games. Will probably put a poll up on my site soon for the next game. Probably a fairly beatemup-heavy poll.
Yes, I have been thinking about this effect as well, and am currently pondering a solution. I may add a bonus score for each 10-wave span completed, and this would pre-accumulate for you if you started at a higher wave. Oh and I'm not sure anybody noticed, but you get 1 point per alien *HIT* while it's in formation... not per alien killed. So the tougher aliens are worth more points. The sub-boss aliens get tougher shields as the waves get higher. Also, you get 2 points for hitting an alien during its dive, rather than when in formation. So killing a shielded sub-boss alien during a dive could net you like 8-10 points or so.
Just bought the game, played 2 games and I'm already addicted! Great game despite of the graphics! According to the achievements it's possible to reach wave 5000, so I guess I'll have many more hours to play with this game. Easy recommendation for anyone.
Very, very impressed. Like Minter on a hungover Sunday. Yep, sometimes takes a while to play if you start from the start but I think I'll indulge myself. Love the graphics and sounds too.
The lack of movement on the leaderboard makes me think I'm not the only one who might feel this way. I know I could beat my high score if I went to wave 1 (particularly now that you've explained some scoring mechanics), but I just don't feel like going through all the easy stuff again. Pushing for higher waves is fun but I'd love to be able to try for competitive scores at the same time. Thanks for the scoring details as well.
Your game looks like great fun and craves for joystick support! Hi, my name is Connector, and as you can see in my title, I am very active in the icade field. Just recently, I have assisted many developers like Plasma Sky, The Other Brothers, Fangz, Impossible Road, Delta-V Racing, Bellyfish, Tabletop Racing, and many more. Also, have a lot of friends who are developers that probably can assist a little if you have questions cause so many helped when Volbard and I implemented icade support in Plasma Sky. Anyway, if you need any assistance in anything whether it is buying, implementing, or testing, please let me know. I have an thread called the HDMI which actually is about 50% icade, please take a look at it: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=173262 If you haven't bought an icade yet, take a look at my icade buyer's manual: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showpost.php?p=2792715&postcount=254 Here is a game that was just released yesterday that I helped with icade support in. Please please please put icade in your game, we would all be thankful, and when Apple comes out with a wireless joystick early next year, you will have an early headstart on the joystick implementation process.
