Craaaaaaaaaap. I reinstalled CR2 thinking it was already iOS8 compatible only to find out it's just the iphone version that's fixed while the ipad version still doesnt load at all.
I noticed, but tis pretty odd getting the iphone version updated and not the ipad version yet. Anyways i guess i'll just have to wait a bit more til i can play this and TWEWY again. At least it didnt sting as much since i already owned the game. I think it would really suck if someone bought it new off its sale price to find out only the sd version is updated.
I know Im so late, but I have a silly question: How does CRII compares to console rpg games? As the FF franchise, for example.
I'd imagine it would be a solid performer if it came out on the PS2 when that was the dominant system.
My flawed review So here's the thing, controversial much, but I've gien this a go 3.5 hours in. Which seemingly by CR and most such titles standards is merely a scratch. So after I've made that scratch I frankly am not really enjoying what I see. Take it with a grain of salt of course because I'm not exactly a talky talky RPG kind of guy, which is what this is. 3.5 hours in and I reckon I've spent around 0.5 to 1 hour actually playing and in battle and the rest is all pop up text. Where is the fun in that? Here's my gripe list to make it concise. Long winded story (so far). Something about the worlds gonna end. I haven't heard of this one before so I'm really intrigued. There's a whinging 13 year old with a head whack of a haircut. He doesn't think he's up to the task, the others keep telling him he is. Such goes most conversation with most characters: "I don't think I can do this" "Yes you can" "Nah can't" "Yeh you can" Good chat. The "missions" are just bound by corridors no matter how pretty those corridors are its just corridors. Was expecting some loot maybe but that just comes in the form of some positions and coin. Ok so visit the store with my coin. The store has some weapons some armour etc. all of its just limited to my available level. I'm starting to see what's happening here. I'm gonna be walked through this. The battle....I suppose. Menu selection. Bitta healin' bitta 'attackin' bitta defendin'. Fantastic menu fun. So much choice and strategy. So I decided to watch some youtubes of final boss battles to see if I thought this might end up where I think it's gonna end up in 30+ hours from now. Would you believe yes. Except your main guy gets access to "godslayer" skill which does over 99999 damage or something. Do some attacking do some healing do more attacking. Then you've got enough damage meter thingy to select your godslayer thingy. Boom boss dead so much fun. I obviously simply don't get it. The polish is great. Artwork quite amazing, well done. Pop up text box after text box though is not my idea of time well spent. But it's about the story! Game of Thrones, now that's a story!! Like I said I'm not quite an RPG of this sort kind of guy so this is a rather glowing review. Great artwork great Polish. Great game? Fun to play?
Thanks for the warning, you just convinced me to remove this from my Wish List. If I want a text heavy story, I'll turn to the pro's, and pick up a good book. The contrived fantasy stories are usually what keep me away from RPG's, and this one (unfortunately) doesn't sound any different.
Uhhh not sure why you think this is text heavy. It has just the same ish amount of text as any Japanese RPG. If you're looking for something without text you should be looking for games that don't have RPG in the genre or Japanese RPGs in general. Imo this is one of the best RPGs on the appstore. Everything is great from story, gameplay, graphics, replayability, etc. But of course if you don't like to read then steer away from RPGs, because most have text. 50+ pages of this thread ought to show you how popular it was. To each their own I suppose.
Yeah... I respect talbs's review, but he basically reviewed 90% of JRPGs there. He did say RPGs are not his forte.
50 pages and like with most such games is 50 pages of mostly the same culprits. It's definately an each to their own thing for sure. You've said everything is great from....(here's my rebuttal): Story: sure I only got 3.5 hours in but we were on a really unique plot of saving the world. I mean really? That's great? Gameplay: must've missed this bit Ha nah I'm being a bit harsh there. There was some. While I'm reminded, why on earth does it only show you the monsters health bar when u finally get to THE LAST ATTACK BUTTON PRESS. So often is cancel right back to the start of the menus because I changed my mind based on that health meter only being visible then. Why not show it on screen always and let me judge from there!!!!? Graphics: Yep agreed. Great. Fantastic. Replayability: sure it may be. But would you want to? Why is it that I was able to YouTube final boss fights and they go for about 8 minutes and it's the same thing I was doing to level 10 wasp bird things. Albeit they don't have uber health so I wasn't using godslayer. Like I said, I just don't get it. And you're right, I usually don't get most RPG's where it seems to be ALL about the story. Would any of you really go to the movies to watch this kind of story? Granted avengers and what not is go to the movies for and there's not much of a story there so Yeh ignore that point, but at least they aren't told over 30 hours.
^ as far as story goes, almost every game is save the world or some one or some town. It's what composes the save-the-world plot that makes it a great story. For example most movies are saving the world, a city, a town, family, etc. but the real story is in how they do that, if they acquire the oddest of help, if they sacrifice themselves, if they have to break the law, to defy their own family, etc. In Chaos Rings, it's usually discovering why this certain end of the worl happens, why they were chosen, how the main characters have to build relationships by helping each other with their individual tasks, and eventually be sacrificed by the one who actually helped you, for the better good. Saying "save the world, really?" is a very shallow way of putting things. Everyone knows what happened to the Titanic, but it was the angle at which the story is told that made it a good story in its last movie adaptation.
And told over 30 hours with pop up boxes? Save the world, really might have been a bit shallow but on the contrary, hand on heart telling someone this story is worthy of a $20 purchase and 30 hours of their time is a bit rich. Again, that's just my opinion. Not everyone loves a "great" story.
Me too!! ROFL!! Wait for the plot twist, Talbs.. This one's story is as good as he previous one.. Being that in previous one, we need to complete the game four times to see the true ending, but it's worth it IMO.. This game is 5/5 for me, being an RPG fan!! Edit: about the bosses, the story bosses are really easy.. But the optional ones are... Annoying... Enraged li hua and pi** are a PITA... About the godslayer skill.... That's a one time skill used according to the story... So... You cannot lose that battle you saw..
Rofl and lols and all those cheap acronyms which I highly doubt you are actually rolling or even laughing. I'm rofling to think that you may be fully grown men/women and are THAT into this game. Like the time required to just even get any sort of a plot change.. Don't worry die hard fans, I see your true colours, I'll give it a bit more time but I swear if I don't get a game of thrones-esque plot change, and some freaking tactiful battles asap... (And THAT battle I saw was a few battles, I take it those are the various endings. Boy am I in for some treat boss fights..if I get there).
I actually laughed a bit, but not rolling.... Hahahahaha~ and yeah, heavy story driven RPG is not for everyone... I played this game when it was released at 2012, when I was 21yo.... There were so many times to play games... Not like now... I still love RPG now, but plays at a very slow pace... I don't remember hard battles beside the optional bosses though....
