Well, seeing that both the Crystal Defenders iPhone and iPad versions are the same price, hopefully this will be the same price as the iPhone version as well :p

Are you serious? You didn't just compare optimizing the graphics of Crystal Defenders (a 41mb game) to the work and optimization they are doing for Chaos Rings. :p

Price points which devs base from a lot of factors but mainly from the effort and quality of the game. That's one of the reasons why Chaos Rings for the iPhone is priced at a premium of $12.99. This was a game developed from the ground up specifically for the iDevice. That's why it took them a while. So if you want to compare price points based on 2 games that differ in quality, you're on thin ice.

Yup I've read good reviews. The map is acceptable. But i was really hoping for great visuals on the battle screen with nicely designed units that you can really appreciate combined with awesome animations for battle actions. Might give it a shot though if I grow tired of waiting for an FF Tactics or even a Front Mission 3-inspired TBS RPG.

Yes, but they would have already recouped their cost for the iPhone development on the iPhone. For the iPad, they're taking an existing game and optimizing it. They don't need to pay for the original development again, just the changes, so there's no reason it couldn't sell for the same price.

Looks like we'll just have to come back and read our posts again once Square Enix releases the game with the price then. I'm willing to bet it won't have identical cost as the iPhone version. We'll see.

I understand what seyoon is saying and I agree. It will take much more work to optimize in terms of graphics and whatnot. But what I'm thinking is that Square Enix may have the mentality that no matter which version you're purchasing, whether for the iPhone or iPad, it will be the same price. I mean, there are many, many apps that are optimized for the iPad that cost more, but, in reality, there aren't many differences. So seeing that Crystal Defenders is the same price for both version, Square Enix may be starting a pattern to make their iPhone/iPad versions the same price.

Exactly. Since Square Enix is a large company, I can almost guarantee that some other part of the company (Sales not development) is setting the prices for games. Also, name an iPad game over $10 that has sold well? I know Square was the first iPhone game over $10 (I think this is right, correct me if I am mistaken), but I doubt you will find many people that will pay over $13 for a game without physical media. But seyoon is correct, we will just have to wait and see.

Appologise if this has been covered, but "retina" gave no results in the thread search, and I'm not going to troll this thread.

Are there any plans to vamp this game to support the retina display? I think this game would really shine. I am waiting to see if this will happen, before I purchase it.

    Thanks!

Anybody got new updates to the release of the HD version? It's August already... No idea how long I have to wait more.

I think they said late August, but even then I don't think that was 100% confirmed.

On PC more and more people are bored to manage game boxes and find better get digital versions and pay full price digital games, ie like 40$. But mainstream PC games are often games with probably 10 time more production value than a game like CR. Also digital allow much more frequent sales. And after first months the sales can be more important at least for many games.

Since not that much time I also adopted this point of view on PC. On idevice well it's a little a chaos so it ends for me to not buy that much games above 5$ and much between 1 and 3$. But well it's not the same content than games I could have buy 40$ on PC. For indie games on PC (a significant number get ported on idevice) the price is much more often to 20$ and can drop down quite lower after few months, well again not for all.
