Have you ever read a thread on this site? Every new 3D game that is released is compared to the psp. Btw Nova and modern combat sandstorm are exclusives. And the gangstar they released is an exclusive too. Oh and I almost forgot about blades of fury. I'm not a huge gameloft fan but just because you're a Japanese rpg fanboy doesn't mean that this game is incomparable to all other games. Yes this is very a good game but it has no effect on the rest of the AppStore. Also you didn't even quote and reply to my whole post so how can you say I have no point? You're just being ignorant and probably enjoy being offended
If you're talking $13 dollars for a PS3 game you're either talking bargain bin or a PSN-exclusive -- either way, not what we're talking about here. But the thing is, a healthy gaming market should both accommodate people like you, as well as those willing to pay more (though that's relative -- $13 is still dirt cheap for a new AAA title on a portable) for deeper games. Look at the DS market: 250 million+ installed base, but a premium game like Legend of Zelda sells about 3 million copies (or less than 2% of the potential audience). You don't have to sell to everyone (or even crack the top 20 Paid Apps) to be successful with a premium title as long, as you invest your development capital wisely, market smartly, and price the game appropriately. There are no such things as shelf space pressure, bargain bins, or used titles in the app store; price is completely up to the developer/publisher.
Will people stop saying that! Yes gta is a console-quality game that showed they can be successful but IT WAS A PORT! Chaos Rings is the first truly AAA game for idevices that was designed exclusively for this platform. It is also the first iphone game to make a serious attempt at breaking the 9.99 barrier. So stop saying it is no different than gta.
Gameplay is WAY too short to be considered up there with the likes of GTA. GTA opened the door for the iPhone, not this title. EDIT: This game is NOT AAA.
Well you might want to actually play the game before you go off on it considering everything I have seen you post about the game is completely false.
I haven't played it yet, but I think Chaos Rings will open the door for over $10 games. Think about it. Thirteen bucks is still much cheaper than many DS/PSP titles, yet it seems to have a similar level of quality to those games. Perhaps it's a bit short, but it's meant to be replayed several times so that the full story is revealed, so it ends up being about as long as a typical handheld RPG in the end.
I know this will probably never happen, but I really think SE should advertise this game. Advertise in gaming magazines, on specialized TV channels (G4 etc). I think that the market for this could potentially be bigger than we realize.
Exactly. There is no reason the two cannot co-exist. So far the beauty of the app store has been how it accommodates indie devs and casual gamers with relatively short turnaround in development time and easy distribution. If we can see an influx of titles being developed for more hardcore gaming, triple A titles, if you will, then there's nothing to stop the device from giving both crowds what they want, and due to the lack of shipping and packaging costs, prices will always be comparably lower. The trick is for Apple to improve their hardware, which they have done, and for developers who are able to make these triple A titles to see there is a legitimate market for them on the platform. I don't see why serving both markets could possibly be a bad thing...
You really think EA or Ubisoft is going to look at this game and say "hey they charged $13 so can we!" EA is incredibly succesful on the app Astore and their games don't go past $10 and usually drop to $7 soon after. And they know that if they push to $10 or $13 their sales will drop dramatically. Sims 3 woul be considered o be a bargain at $13 on a ds or psp but that doesn't mean it should be at that price. So far the only apps I think deserved their "premium" price or higher is GTA, Real Racing, Street fighter IV, and NOVA.
Wow, have fun playing those .99 cent doddle jump clones, and give those awful developers more reason to put crap on the App Store.
I have no doubt that others will jump on the over 9.99 bandwagon. I think the real question is this: how will it affect the sales of other games with lower prices? If someone is saving money for an expensive (iDevice wide I mean) game, how many other games won't be bought? Like it or not the 99 cent games seem to be the bread and butter of the iTunes store. I'm interested in seeing how this shakes out.
I agree whole heartedly, reiterating a comment I just made in another thread, aside from the occasional rare gem that surprises I am getting far more value and enjoyment out of the increasing number of top tier priced games I have purchased recently than I ever did out of 99% of the regret or forget "bargains" that litter my 12+GB apps folder.
One thing about the 99cc games, the devs and other forum members thinks you are cheap to complain about quality in these games. Whenever one point out a flaw a forum member will give a smart ass 'well it's 99cc' comment.
Well, it wasn't THAT long ago that this was talked about: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=4428&highlight=square+enix My Square Enix games on the DS/PSP give me 30-40 hours of gameplay usually for $29.99 or $39.99. From what I hear, this one gives 8 hours - if I'm wrong, please correct this. Thus, my only problem is that it seems to give me slightly less value than $1/hr. Having said that, I love Square Enix games and am glad that they are devoting time to this platform. I hope the game continues to sell well, opening the door to true premium content and pricing of games. I'm not completely sold on this game yet, but only because it's shorter than the usual Square RPG that I play. Make it the length of something like The World Ends With You, charge $19.99, and I'm in.
