For me the sound effects stop working when I disable the background music from the options menu. Seems like that turns off sound effects too. When I have the background music enabled I not only get the bg music but sound effects as well.
Square Enix just posted on Facebook that they are working on the sound bug and that you can report your problem in detail. So, everything will be fine soon.

lol are u meaning they bump the thread to get more attention cause square enix did such a good job to update their bug so quick? such a cheap way to promo.
Yeah they did. Everytime Crimson Gem Saga or Chaos Rings thread gets to first page because genuine users post something, like a tips or updates, the Across Age thread always gets bumped by fake posters. I mean, seriously, look at their last few pages. All of the posters there are new with less than 5 posts. All of them only ever posted on Across Age thread even after joining TA for several months, that's just so obvious! Worse, the accounts are no longer used once they post a few questions. Talk about wasting accounts! It's pathetic. And TA admins don't care the devs are breaking 2 rules at the same time: bumping thread for the sake of bumping thread and fake / shill accounts.
Great news. My favorite game is working again. Thank you, Square Enix. Your hard work is definitely appreciated.
Now the game is perfect. Retina display and all. I still get annoyed at the itunes reviews saying "completed it in 6 hours. don't want to repeat it with different character." Little do they realise what they're missing.
i was going to buy across age when it was sale last week, but than i found out they are going to release a somehow DX version that adds one new map and some tiny little things later on, and trying to charge more, i held on myself and didn't buy it. for those kind of contents should be add in a free update, not releasing them in another "DX version" and forcing the old customers buying double this dev is really cheap if what you said is real
