I just got to the first boss (red armored dragon thing). I'm having trouble beating him since he keeps casting that spell that increases his speed and attack. After casting that a few times he always attacks first, and each hit takes away like 1/2 of Musiea's HP and 1/3 of Escher's, and neither of them are doing any significant damage to him (Musiea does like 100 with the water spell since her normal attack does like no damage, Escher does around 250 with the melee attack). Any tips for this thing?
I'm pretty sure that I first cast the reflect magic spell, then did pair attacks alternated with chocolate for Musiea. Took a couple of attempts.
Healing. Lots of it. I had Musiea heal whoever got hit on the last round while Escher attacked (physical, not skill). On the rare cases where neither char took any damage, I'd have Musiea either cast the water spell or physical attack. Then more healing. I wiped once on the dragon cause I was trying to have them both attack. Won't do that again.
I posted the Times review not so much for the review's content (almost all of us agree the game is great, whether the review itself goes too far is a matter of debate obviously) but just to point out that an iPhone game is getting mainstream press in one of the most-read publications of its kind. I didn't even go looking for the Chaos Rings review - it was linked on the front page of the NYTimes webpage. Regardless of content, that's a great thing to see, and hopefully it bodes well for the future of our platform in terms of developer interest, consumer perception, etc.
While it is nice to see an iPhone game getting coverage in a "mainstream" publication, the author makes sure to piss on iPhone gaming as a whole while he's praising SE: Frankly, given the meager competition, it would almost be damning Chaos Rings with faint praise to call it an iPhone game at all.
Ok so I just finished the game so I have a couple of questions: *MAJOR SPOILERS DON'T READ ON IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW* Ok 1st, I defeated the Qualia with the 4 couples and all, but then, I check the scenarios and after the Qualia scenario 4 more open (1 for each couple). What are those and how do I get to them? Also, a storyline question: If the couples always have as a 1st option to go through the original door 10.000 years back in time, w/o needing to meet the almighty and stuff, how do they know that they couldn't defeat the Qualia? That's all for now
Actually, no, that's not what the review says. In the quote posted the reviewer said CR was at the vanguard of games from big developers taking the iPhone seriously (as a gaming platform) and was implying Sony and Nintendo had hoped big developers wouldn't take the iPhone seriously. The review did not say (as you implied) that Sony and Nintendo feared for their market share just because of CR alone. Also, it stands to reason the reviewer was referring to Sony and Nintendo's handheld market sare, not their full sized consoles market share. Agree with it or not, it wasn't that outlandish an interpretation of events. If CR does really well, more big games and developers will follow.
Duo attacks work wonders. What I did was a duo attack (either physical or magic) one turn, then heal on the next, then fight, etc...If you do duo, and select chocoalte they each heal for 1000 points and even with the bosses speed increased generally I was able to heal first.
Another good tip, as soon as available, use 1 Paradise Apple (Body) in every single fight for faster leveling.
It is outlandish, not least because there is no grounds to imply what Nintendo and Sony's stance are. But that's not the sole factor in the hyperbole. The first half of the whole review has nothing to do with the game itself, the first half. To 'big up' the standing of this game with regards to the App Store, it shouldn't take more than a short paragraph. The way it is written, it bears little difference from the fanboy / paid off jerkfests that litter most gaming sites when it comes to reviews. They're all full of hyperbole, one for fanboyish / paid off reasons but also because many of these so-called professional reviewers like to use hyperbole as a replacement for meaningful content as they are incapable of writing as such.
This is basically what I do. Trouble is later on the damage done can be enough that you heal, take 700 points damage, and can't attack cause you have to heal again. Eventually one of your characters falls and you're done. It's nothing leveling up/buying armor and weapons csnt fix but it it took me 5+ hours of game time to get through with the first two characters. For me, it would only be a cakewalk if someone points out a key tactic or two I'm missing. And I do use magic against a weakness when I can.
Also, it's ok to get a few extra levels if you're having trouble. Each level is super fast (unless you're playing in the easier brackets) so a few battles and your hp is up a decent amount.
Actually there are recent quotes from the prez of nintendo USA that was pretty dismissive of iDevices as a completive threat to the DS.
The iphone/ipad has a looooong way to go before sony and nintendo breaks a sweat. Just a handful of high production games won't scratch the giants much.
... Am I the only one that thinks this game is insanely easy? I'm level 40 and I kill level 71 monsters in a hit or two. Bosses are a joke, only taking 4 - 5 hits before dying. It's a great game but I would like it if I can actually die or have a challenge.
