I believe SE not only pay attention on the rank of the selling, but also the most important is the profit(or revenue) they made.

well, angry brid selling with 99 cents may be the number 1 on Top paid app US, but selling one copy of CR equals to 13 copies of AB. So the CR sale report with number 1 Top Grossing and keep on Top 20 in US is extremely well...

Agree with the part about the icon needing to be better-but I generally dislike it when a game's title is in the icon. It makes the icon seem cluttered, and the title is really uneeded because it is displayed right underneath the app.

I would have put one of the rings as the icon....but then the icon would be very similar looking to The Sims 3....

They could put lots of rings with random sizes and in random places within the icon - "Chaos Rings"! :p

Yeah, I'm not 'getting' the deep combat system. It has turned out like the modern FF's (and the RPGs which follow its template) where you have a multitude of mechanics and options but spamming one attack mostly does the trick. This leaves the gene system as well as the element system underutilised and largely pointless. This is a pitfall many RPGs fall into because the devs don't place any real emphasis on buffs / debuffs or the difference between physical and magical attacks (like the Dragon Quest series does). It also doesn't help when attacks and magic attacks inflicted onto your party are neutralised so often due to the human genes the characters have to equip. It just makes the already simple battles even simpler.

The treasure system is also not nearly satisfying enough due to a lack of overall equipment in the game. When you're opening the locked chests it can be anything from a mere cheap item sold at the store or a weapon already available at the store. There's very little of rare secret items to be found which make going out of your way to open the locked chests worthwhile.

The presentation is unbalanced. While the handdrawn backgrounds are nice and the 3D models detailed, there's a lack of content for both throughout the game. Dungeons are made up of no more than several screens of outside hand-drawn environments with the other half of the dungeon made up of those repetitive interior assets. The same goes for the 3D models and the lack of enemy variation, there's merely several models for each dungeon which just go through coloured variations for higher levels.
This lacking also strikes the direction of the story. Not much actually happens outside some brief animation and text, this is especially evident with the backstories which are told through a rather crude white text on a black background.

However where the presentation is concerned it is slightly understandable. The game obviously had a limited budget when you consider its respective genre (despite it being one of the better efforts for the app store) and so they had to cut corners, even though the scope of the game was extremely small to begin with.

Overall a well-made enough RPG but certainly nothing to bark over considering the wealth of RPGs in this industry. There is a danger of people exagerating its quality just because there is little else like it on the app store, but I have never understood that act of adding qualifiers in order to better rate a product. In any case hopefully it will do well enough to spark off bigger and better wares down the line.

Those were all the weaknesses I found for this game as well.
It's funny how some people can't take criticism at all, even when I said this game is very well done, and they think I hate this game lol.
I'd give this game an 8/10 despite all the flaws simply because it's revolutionary. Probably go up to a 9 if they balance the attacks/buffs/magical skills better.

i agree with the balanced comments above. most noticeable was the lack of any real loot. the lack of choice in almost every aspect combined with a fairly linear path makes this less fun that i had originally hoped.

that said, it is one of the appstores prize assets and i hope they make enough profit to carry on delivering quality games.

I've found that strategic decisions — like when to heal, when to combo, what gene attacks to use — play much more when fighting high above your level (when the enemy can two- or three-shot you). I didn't mind the treasure system; while finding weapons/armor is rarer than it probably should be, I always net a more powerful item than is available in the store (again, because I'm playing dungeons 10+ levels above me). I didn't care for the story originally, but after completing the first two scenarios and having nearly finished the Ayuta storyline, I was pleased to find that the game offers a pretty engaging and deep overarching story with some nice unexpected twists.

While there is obviously a huge catalog of nice jrpgs on other consoles/handhelds, this is by far the most advanced and original example made for this platorm, and that's a pretty great step forward.

It's good that people are pointing out some things they see as negatives, there's always room for improvement I suppose. Right now, this is my game of the year by far, and I'm hoping that that changes because that would mean a truly incredible game is on the way. I have to say though, that this one is going to be tough to beat.

The best gene combination I found so far was

    Warrior: Dinosaur,Dragon,Lion
    Magic: Fish,Tortoise,Elephant

It gives you access to all 6 element spells the big heal and the ever important divine fist and auto-counter. It also gives your warrior the best stat upgrades along with extra physical attack. You can make a case for switching elephant for mouse but you only really use magic after the enemy uses it and then you use divine fist to do insane damage after you have their weak element. I find physical damage is more important.

got it instantly when I seen it didn't wait for reviews or anything...love this game and I knew my trust in Square Enix would pay off. Song Summoner was great also... but this game is easily worth 19.99 or on another system even more. Love it don't care about the price it's well worth it.

    +1

I think we're living in Unit State where we can have different idea and opinion; but in this thread, I'm being locked up in China, where I only can say "yes" "yes" "yes" or stfu, no negative comment can be made here, that weird thing happening in this thread....

but CR still one of my current favorite tho ...

To my knowledge they are only in the last dungeon but the dinosaur genes are phenominal for physical dps.
