well well well, just claim down, I'm not hating it... just speak out my opinion. I'm not the one you wanna attack, if you know me well. e.g. in minigore. I may not have a good mood to play RPG for now (especially after zenonia 2), may take a break and try again later, need some fresh air. cheers
Great game so far. Does anyone know why I can't equip the tiger genes yet? They're greyed out in the genes menu option. Also, what do the stars after gene sets mean? Help appreciated, thanks guys!
The stars after the name show how many powers of that gene you have unlocked. If you have no stars after it that means none of the powers of that gene are active and it cannot be equipped. Kill more enemies with the same gene to unlock more of that genes powers.
I haven't read this thread at all since I got the game right after release, but all I can say is I'm loving it. Awesome. Strategic turn-based RPG gameplay, great story, amazing graphics and music, and a very cool skill system. What's not to love here?
I am probably the worst person to ask about this because I think that Crisis Core is the second worst game I ever paid full price for on the PSP (Dissidia is the first). In fact, I hated it so much that it turned me off JRPGs for years. So when I say that I like Chaos Rings a thousand times better than Crisis Core I'm not trying to start a PSP/iDevice platform war or piss off the CC fans (no offense Somerandomdude!): it's just simply the way I personally see it. And to answer your question: leveling in CR is based on a straightforward kill monster/gain xp formula, and the combat is purely turn-based (and without a stupid slot machine power up) and, as such, much more tactical than CC.
Beautifully fantastic you have made me very very happy. And I couldn't agree more with your analysis of crisis core despite being turn based however, the action is still fast paced right?
Yes, as long as you're okay with watching (as in, not being able to skip) the combat animation. Selecting from the menu is fast and responsive, and the pace can be quickened by using combined attacks instead of individual ones (though you want to use that option tactically). I've found the combat to be very exciting so far, especially the boss fights. Keep in mind that you have a choice of difficulty for each level, and I went with the highest available, so combat for me has both been longer than normal (as the monsters are tougher) and more engaging (since I've come close to dying more than once).
I'm stunned!! I LOVED Crisis Core and thought it was the best game I've ever played. Wow, guess were wayyy oposites there. Maybe I should warn you I'm loving this game too and I personally think it does have the same feel as CC and Dissidea, not sure you'll like it then to be honest. Just trying to save you the money, then again it didn't like minigore or pocket god ( worst games I've bought for my iPod)
This game needs your standard FAQ/walkthrough/strategy guide job. I'm wishing I had help with some strategies. Can't put it to words now, but it would be cool to read about it. Great game, it's been eating away hours. I can withstand a lot of abuse from jRPGs, as I've played through FF7 and FF9, half of FF6, FF8, Chrono Cross, Chrono Trigger and Xenogears and some others and loved every second of it. No, that's not true. The random encounters left me with severe post-traumatic stress syndrome and every time I hear a "Woosh" sound, I break a sweat and start screaming. Anyway, Square Enix did not disappoint, but I'll have to figure out this element system and all these items that apparently hook into this.
Just got my first Chaos Ring. This game is amazing. I also am going to need to revisit the instruction manual, because I'm really not getting (and therefore utilizing) the elemental system. I have all of these elemental attacks and I'm basically not using them because I'm not sure what the monsters I'm facing are weak against.
I just bought it and it is NOW downloading . I read through 32 pages of this thread and that has been enough to convince me. I didn't bother reading 18 more pages because it's too time consuming . I can't wait to play this!!!!
I'm stuck, pathetically, on the second slider puzzle. Can't see how you can get a blue piece on the side of the last gem to teleport there.
After playing through a little bit of this game(I didn't buy it, a friend did, he's a big enough fan to just buy SE stuff without reviews or impressions), I must say that from a technical standpoint. Graphics, sound, overall interface shine and polish. This game is really remarkable. But so far, and although I didn't actually complete the first story part, he did and he told me about it and I kinda watched him nail the boss at the end. It doesn't really impact me or speak to me. I don't know, I was hesitant to buy this, and still am. I kinda expected more from SE, and without having to re-iterate myself. It is a genuine step-up for this platform. But it's just not having as huge an impact on me as for example, The World Ends With You on the DS, which was also released exclusively for the DS by SE. The fighting mechanics, control system, story, and setting were just utterly original and never seen before. But within minutes of starting up Chaos Rings, it was apparent to me that although it doesn't carry the FF moniker, it just screamed FF to me in every possible way. My biggest qualm is perhaps the combat. Similar to what Aurora mentioned, about the never-replenishing MP bar, it just seems a little dull and repetitive. Please do not start flaming me for this, I just think that if one were to compare revolutionary games for a particular platform. The World Ends With You trumps this in almost every way, save for the 3D graphics of course. And before anyone brings up the obvious price difference between the two. I am aware of it, but I still expected more of a story and something that made more use of the iDevice's capabilities. For example multitouch or tilting or something else, granted, we've seen far too much of that already, but I'm just saying. This is a great game, and a very good starter for the younger people who've never played or never really paid attention to JRPGs. It just doesn't do it for me.
Anyone finding that the game gets easier at higher levels? I'm still on my first run through, just entered the 4th dungeon. I found the game nicely challenging at levels 8-10, with random encounters vs same level enemies requiring close attention to strategy. But ever since winning my first arena fight, I've been blowing through all enemies. I suppose I could ramp up the dungeon difficulty, but I doubt I'd survive 31-40 lvl bosses with my lvl 21 team.
BTW, I'm beyond impressed with how smoothly and bug-free the game runs. Pretty amazing for a v1.0 of such a large game.
