Ok, in case anyone is confused about turning off random battles, I just went and checked. Apparently the Dog Gene does have a feature enabling the random encounter toggle. But it doesn't appear that you need to have the Dog Gene actually equipped for it to be active. That would explain why I don't remember equipping anything. Once it's unlocked within the gene, it seems to stay there. So I must have skipped past the text telling me I'd unlocked that without knowing. Fortunately it seems to be pretty easy to unlock early on, so equip the Dog Gene and play through some battles until it tells you you have it.
That is the question for me. If you are running the exact same dungeons, solving the same puzzles, and fighting the same bosses 4 times, that doesn't really count as a true 20-30 hour experience. Of course the game has only been out for a couple hours, so we'll have to see over the next few days how these second playthroughs truly are.
You need to collect gems to get the power to switch with a block. But apparently you can switch with the gem itself in that instance.
Just bought it US$12.99. If you want to buy it cheaper, just wait another SE game release. It seems to have SE game sales when a new title out. All their game are on sales now.
I understand-but I'm impressed with how it runs-my only problem is it does the life outta your battery pretty quick.
That is the only time I've seen SE price drops/sales. I know they did the same thing when FF1/2 were released.
Are the gems you collect in that room? I hate to sound like a short bus rider, but I'm tired and not focusing-but I want to play more.
Wow... I am loving this so far. This is the idevice's killer app! Hopefully they SE doesn't screw this up and port it to the DS and PSP and every other console in existence (which will most likely happen) But seriously the graphics are beatiful, The battle system is fun and strategical, The random battles don't feel forced or annoying (at least to me they don't) And the story is pretty good as well. Everybody needs to buy this game.
This is just not true at all... I personally hate story in almost all games (exceptions being Nintendo games,) and in this game I always fast forward through the dialogue. I find it extremely boring, and of course that is only my own opinion and I seem to be in the minority. However, story is not the only defining factor in a turn based RPG...and I think most people would agree with me that gameplay is more important.
I don't think it matters either way. I don't mean to sound negative, but I highly doubt people are going to drop their PSP or DS gaming for an iPod Touch/iPhone just because of this game.
I agree, the stories are VERY different from one another and each characters comes from a really different background. I actually think the way all 4 sets of characters interweave with one another is far more interesting than one long, drawn out story. Plus the combatants feel unique from each other when battling, so each play through does feel quite a bit different from the last. I'm also on a 2g touch and had no issues. About the weather effects, I noticed the game ran a tiny bit smoother without them, and I think it actually looks better with it turned off. Everything has a much cleaner and colorful look, whereas the translucent layer sort of obscured the view without really adding anything. I'd say try turning it off just to see if you like that better.
I'm sorry, but if you haven't played all the Final Fantasies up to this point, you'll notice why stories determine an RPG's success or failure on the consoles and to and extend on the handheld's, even though they're recycled games from past gens. I buy RPG's for the story, rather than gameplay. I guess I could open up the can of worms and name all the past Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy games, whose stories people fell in love with. But in the end, it's my own perspective. I'm sure other people have different tastes in RPG's
You're right: it's a matte of opinion. In my view, without story most RPGs would be just a long string of tedious combat combined with even more tedious item/skill management. But obviously it depends how the story is integrated into the game. If it's just a bunch of cut scenes that set up the action (as in Zenonia 1 IMO), then it's eminently skippable. If the story is integrated into the action (as is here), then it becomes the core of the gameplay. Again, just my opinion.
Game Impressions After playing a good session, I have to say this game definitely delivers on all fronts. I started out using Eluca (Twin Blades) and Zhamo (Ceremonial Spear) and they compliment each other very well. I love the attacks solo/double/DNA/ and enemy animations, it truly offers console quality all around. I love they way you obtain DNA from monster battles and turn around to make use of them on your enemies. The battle mechanics are very on point, intuitive, and pure addictive. Puzzles in game are nice and a definite break from battle and adventuring. Absolutely every thing is laid out (for me) just right! Music and background environments are well laid out. So far I'm very satisfied with my investment. Pricing on Chaos Rings is very fair for what your getting. This runs very smoothly on my iTouch 2G and have yet to experience any frame hiccups(even when a lot is going on on-screen). Chaos Rings was much needed for my iGaming and so far I'm in complete aww!!! I'm looking most forward to unlocking Ayuta. I honestly even after the short amount of time I've been playing that Chaos Rings is the best Square Enix game by a good margin within the Appstore. Back to playing for me to see what else unfolds. Happy Gaming!
No not most people. I care about story just as much about gameplay. That's the main reason why Zenonia, Inotia, Luna Story or other ARPGs on Appstore so far feels very generic and cheap.
