Mindfield, I could not agree more. I too love epic book series, but have always viewed gaming to more action based and a little less mindless than some rpgs I have tried would have me be. That is why they were never for me. Maybe I just never stuck with a good rpg long enough to be truly engaged. I look forward to giving it another go in the form on an epic chair release should this game materialize. I actually love open world games, and if the action part of an rpg is engaging enough, I could see it bringing me into the genre completely. Since I now play games almost exclusively on my iphone, I will stick to the FPSs, platformers, actions, and so on.

  2. It does depend on your gaming proclivities, but it also depends on the RPG. There are some pretty derivatives and poorly written ones out there. Lots of them. That's kind of the problem with RPGs. Like any book, the writing plays a large part of the overall experience, and if it sucks it ruins the suspension of disbelief. Gameplay is a big part, too; a UI that's too oversimplified or too complicated, repetitive tasks or quests (grind), too little depth, or any number of things can upset the balance that makes for a good RPG in the same way that two-dimensional characters, highly derivative plots, poor or bland writing or other such things can turn you off a book.

Mind you, I don't have major hopes for a huge Oblivion-class RPG on a mobile define even from Chair, but it would be nice if they could approach that level. Aralon tried to approach those lofty heights, and while it's still the best open-world RPG on iOS by a wide margin as far as I'm concerned, once you've played through it once or twice, the world feels a lot smaller than it does on first play, the main story feels quite short, and the side quests too few. It would be nice if Chair could show Aralon how it's done.

I'll keep my post simple, as i seem to have lost the ability to command large words due to my sleep deprivation...

The game sounds really cool, even though I know almost nothing about it. Bring it on, ChAIR!

    (This rumor better be true.)

    +1, rofl xD.

  8. Yeah, the App Store is positively bursting at the seams with stunning first-person open-world RPGs. Chair should focus more on something the world needs more of, like stunning first-person open-world match 3s.

...... Thanks for making me look dumb... :p

Mirror's Edge mostly fits my description, but I was thinking a little more open, and a lot more endless. :D

No, but diversification is the key to a successful business. They have a limited market as it is, but with a shooter, it's suddenly doubled.

  16. IB is not an RPG, so a real RPG from Chair would be diversification. So would an FPS. So would an RTS, or a platformer, or a shmup. Chair is going with an RPG, almost certainly because they've already got a lot of assets they can reuse, and the sort of RPG they're likely to do is an underserved market in the App Store, so they'll have less competition than they would with an FPS. You may not like RPGs, and that's fine, but that's what Chair's (allegedly) doing. I for one would love to see what they could do -- but then, I'm part of their target audience.

Has chair did anything to confirm this new game or is it still a rumor?

Imho, IB was like a better looking fruit ninja. I didn't really like it. Hope this will be a truer and deeper rpg than IB

I'm wondering WHY ppl are saying that IB wasn't deep? It's not supposed to be deep, this article is saying that this game IS deep! Not just a little deeper then IB. if he referred it like that, the. He shouldnt have said such a thing since he would basically be saying that this upcoming game isnt deep and I don't think he would say tht.
