The game to me okay...I'm not really getting much fun out of Hyper Chain mode. To me it is too chaotic and frustrating and I really just don't see how to get high scores...I'm very consistent in the 40 to 50 thousand range and I have all the powerups unlocked. There does not seem to be any way to make chains as you have all these differently colored shapes just drifting in. The Static mode is okay and certainly more enjoyable than the hyper chain mode as each screen is kind of like an instant puzzle. Haven't bothered with the Arcade mode. One thing that I don't like is that the sounds for several of the sound effects are staticky when heard on my iphone's external speakers.
You can't always hold out hoping to make every chain 6+ in length. You need to make shorter chains (2 to 3 in length) too to clear them out of the way to prepare for the longer chains. Shapes always spawn in a way that you can at least make a chain of length two at the minimum, though their spawn order may be mixed up (red, then blue, then red, then blue). Scoring with a chain of length 2 will make you around 6 times the points as putting 2 single shapes into the vortex. And you can always put single shapes into the vortex quickly if you find your screen starting to be overrun with shapes.
That is often my tactic, if not simply going for some quick twosies, pick a piece that seems to be the most prevalent and then make a point to quickly chuck into the vortex all pieces that ARE NOT my designated piece so I then can follow up and link a nice big chain of only my intended target piece. Often the ideal tactic is to pick a circle or hexagon piece in hopes that a wild card will show up so all liked shaped guys regardless of color.
Thanks for your honest feedback ArtNJ. While you can ignore quests and complete them eventually, if you're actively trying to finish quests quickly (like keeping an eye out for circles if the quest is to chain 8 circles) then you can complete more quests per game and the bonus points rewarded from the quests will help give you a scoring edge over others. Static mode is a nice relaxing way to play and it helps make Chain Link a well rounded game that offers something for everybody. I even added the Easy static mode without a time limit since someone requested it to give younger kids a mode they could play. Some of the top scores in static mode were from players who played a single game that lasted over 2 hours (with breaks in-between). I have thought about adding a little warning icon for newly spawned shapes and I even created a prototype screenshot on how it would look. But with so many shapes spawning per second, it would clutter up the screen with so many things visible at once. There is a slight period of time when the shape is spawning that prevents you from accidentally colliding with other shapes though.
Chain Link Pro is in the Top 16 of all free iPhone games! I'm hoping it reaches number 1 by the weekend! Help me get the word out, tell all your friends to pick up Chain Link Pro for free and then you can use the in-game challenge feature to blow their minds when you challenge them to beat your score of 50 million!
Game Impressions I'm enjoying this. The visuals are clean and well done. It's never hard to tell chain colours apart and i'm in the top 1000 on expert - static mode! The only thing I found a problem is that so much text can jump on the screen at omce, it may be hard to read it. Other than that, great addictive game.

This is a fun game. I don't know how I missed it the first time. Plus, it's free. The game is very addicting.
Vexorg, I just sent you a PM regarding a problem that I have with the purchased add-in. Please take a look when you get a chance.
+1, there are similar games, but this one has just the right combination of modes, power-ups and pleasant graphics.
While, in all honesty, the spin off Chain Pattern didn't do as much for me, this game is an addictive classic. I think where Chain Pattern lost me a bit, in comparison to this one, is that in Chain Pattern it is all about following exact orders to score, continue, whereas in this game you are so much more free to play however you want. The missions that pop up from time to time give you pretty specific objectives, they're completely optional (although, besides the points, they are the key to unlocking further power-ups, so a key to fully unlocking the game).
This coming from the Champion of Chain Link Pro should encourage you to pick up the gem Today. I've spent hundreds of pounds in the App Store and this (at the time cost 59p) has lasted me more hours than most of the games I've bought combined. It's absolute genius and was made for touch screen. It is one of the best games of the entire YEAR.
Merry Christmas everyone!!! I've been prototyping a new game mode for chain link but I'm not happy with it yet. So chain link isn't dead. I just want to make sure the idea is as fun as the original before I add it to the game.

It has been a long time since we last talked LordGek! I know, life just got too busy to find some quiet time to focus on coding. Plus there was always "one more feature" I wanted to work on that kept pushing things back. The iPhone game market has changed a lot since Chain Link first came out so I hope there are still people out there who have time for another game on their device. If it took me a year to do this update, it would take me 5 years to come up with Shape Sifter 2, so don't hold your breath LordGek!
