So I am not sure if anybody else has noticed - but whats up with the censorship of written word in Gameloft games. I mean what is an * going to really do from blocking the word. Is this only in Canada, or is worldwide? Is it because of Apple? Do other apps suffer from the same thing? I am not put off by it, it just seems silly and petty. I mean we are living in a day and age when you can turn on the TV before 8pm and see all assortment of violence, sex/nudity*, and offensive language on almost any random channel. *at least up here in Canada. Edit - I'll take a screenshot next time I see it. GO SPAIN!!!!!
I guess they don't want some nut-job Christian parent flipping over a word like "damn" in a video game. It's not like console games that have ESRB ratings. Stuff like that has happened before.
Why are you playing a GameLoft game in the first place? - Anywho on topic It's probably because Canadians are strict.
meh I don't discriminate against any publisher/developer - Gameloft has developed several games I enjoyed tons. Canada is strict? Really? Is this the view people have of our country right now? Kamazar - I get that, I still think it is bogus. I mean they have the rating warning that comes up and asks if you are over 17 if the game has violence or drug/sexual references.
The other day I noticed a song in Rock Band has the word "God" censored out, but the word "damn" is left in. I figure it's because "damn" is okay, but "God-damn" isn't... and instead of removing the whole word they thought they'd just cut it in half. To anyone in the UK it's pretty weird though, the word damn over here is pretty light... it's about as offensive as saying "balls" or something else pathetically weak. So it's kind of amusing to see other people fuss over it.
I don't ever remember damn being censored in an American GL game, but I know in the first boss fight of Prince of Persia, b*tch was censored (exactly like that too), but only in the subtitles. The audio wasn't censored whatsoever, but the captions were. It makes absolutely no sense. Besides, it's not like they don't have games on the App Store that have swears in them (namely GTA). Ah well, it's not a huge deal.
I don't think that's even a regular Canadian stereotype. In fact they're much less strict then the US.
I like Gears of War 2 censoring. They only censor "shit". Mother****er, damn, ****, etc. is not censored.
The version I played the never censored Shit. I like GTA IV because their the language is so ****ing funny!
There's three vital Canadian stereotypes every prejudiced bastard should now. 1) They say "eh" at least twice every sentence. 2) They get drunk on maple syrup. 3) They're straight up obsessed with hockey (though there may be some truth to this one).
