If you are swarmed by monsters next to stairs a good strategy is to go back to upper level and bring couple monsters with you. Also, Guards in Surface level will attack monsters - lure monsters near them to get some aid
Unfortunately there seems to be couple broken items in 2.5.0 that will cause game to crash (Assassins Dagger, of Protection items), these will be fixed in a bugfix update as soon as I get it approved.
In addition to Cavern I'm currently working on a concept for a two player co-op game (on steam greenlight https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=270072566) Also, would be fun to make more story driven rpg with Cavern engine and maybe a "endless" roguelike.
Yeah, it was my very first game tho, so not much was lost. My 4th character is running along fine now, just reached the catacombs. I've also noted an occasional crash, but fortunately not often enough to become frustrating.
It feels so much more polished now - great job! Found a bug though. If you kill a monster in a doorway, any treasure dropped there can't be picked up because tapping there either just moves you there or closes the door. And if you stand in the doorway and tap on yourself, you just rest.
I thought the same thing until I realized I could tap and hold, which brings up options to either close door or pick up items.
So, what's the deal on returning the mystery object? If i tap the pedestal, it says i have to talk to the king first. But he just blabbers about seeing him when I reach the next dungeon level.
Okay, I backtracked all the way down again thinking I might have missed something on the last floor. Nothing I could find though. Meh, I'll just throw it on the floor then.
There is a bug in current version that prevents returning of the Mystery Object if you visit town from last level before returning the item. This is fixed in the 2.5.1 update (already submitted, hopefully it will get the requested expedited review). You will be able to finish the game with the new version, just visit any other level first and then get back to surface. I can imagine that this is a major anticlimax
Haha yeah. I know it's the journey that matters, not the destination, but my hero wouldnt be in this line of work if there weren't some hot princess twins waiting for him on the end of the road .
I'm new to this game and having a lot of fun. It's definitely my favorite roguelike I've played on iOS. Unfortunately, I may have encountered a game-breaking bug during my first good run. In case it helps the awesome developer, I'll provide a good amount of detail here, although the exact sequence of events is hard to remember. I'm going to look silly if this isn't a bug, but oh well. iPad 3, 32GB, iOS 8.1, jailbroken. I'm in the catacombs and the trouble seemed to arise during what I think was my first encounter with a spell caster: the enemy in a black robe who shoots fireballs. I first noticed that my sword was automatically unequipped. When I checked my status, my strength had dropped from about 20 to 7. I somehow cleared all of the nearby enemies with a bow. I figured I had some sort of nasty curse without the red glow for some reason. An antidote didn't fix it and walking around a lot just made my strength keep dropping. My character now seems to be stuck at a strength of -1, although the other main stats appear normal. Armor is -316, blocking is -643. Gold appears as ". . ." It seems that even expendable health items require a strength of 0, so I can't use or equip anything. I was able to use the surface link to sell some stuff, but that is now also unusable with a -1 strength. I'm still alive. As silly as this is, it would be great if there were a way to recover this run as I've put in several hours. Any ideas will be appreciated. Otherwise, I'll remind myself that I would have died in a roguelike anyway. I've also encountered a few other (possible) bugs for reference: I am sometimes unable to pick up items when they are in the same tile as a door. Instead, I can only open/close the door. In case the specific items matter, I was unable to pick up several blue potions and a scroll. Grapes are an example of something that I was able to pick up in a doorway. At least three times, the inventory or the map didn't display, but I've clearly "gone into" them. All but once, I was able to tap around and find where the button to close the menu would be. Once out of that menu, the screen would flash a lot as I walked around. Pressing the home button to exit the game lead me to an iOS "desktop" without any icons. A power button reboot fixed the problem. This seems potentially jailbreak related. The game completely crashed once after I had mostly cleared the ant queen level. My progress was only saved from the beginning of that level. Notably, this was a level where I left most of the items on the ground, so possibly a memory issue. For some reason, I got into the habit of stashing my unusable loot on the floor above and teleporting from there to sell it. When the king gave me one of his soldiers, the soldier wouldn't follow me from the cleared floor I teleported back to. This is probably not a bug, but may be a gameplay issue that could use a tweak. Phew! Anyway, great game that I would recommend to anyone reading this. I just want to help iron out the wrinkles.
There was a bug in 2.5.0 that caused stat drain when using quick weapon swap button with attirbute modifying items - it doesn't quite fit into your description but could it be that you did swap between sword and a bow a lot? Red glow is curse that can be cured only by drinking a blessing potion - it will make your attacks weaker and the amount of damage taken higher. You can pick up items from doorways when you hold touch and choose "pick item" option from the action menu. I've been getting a lot of reports for this, should make the functionality more obvious. Soldiers should follow you to teleport, but they have to be close to portal / player. Invisible dialogs sound like a memory issue - will look into it. 2.5.1 update is now out that fixes weapon swap issue and item related crashes. Returning the Mystery Object works now properly too
Yeah the update finally allowed my hero to retire. Thanks! I'll try a fighter next i think. Re: escorts not following :: they have to be next to the stairs, otherwise they won't follow you.
My fighter has reached the ant lair but the game now keeps crashing when I'm battling some (spawned?) ants . Edit: it looks like the game crashes whenever a fire ant attacks my player.
Looks like there is still some item issues - I did try to reproduce this and noticed that "of Reflection" items crash on hit if hit by Fire Ant - do you have any of those equipped? Really sorry about these issues - will post another update asap after some more testing.
I have found an issue where as an archer equipping a different how my arrows turned into different items and weapons.
I just bought the game and I also see that when I equip a new bow that instead of firing arrows he fires bows and potions! One other thing I could not find by searching. Is amethyst any good for anything apart from selling to the armour merchant?
My hero is wearing a ring mail of reflection... I'll try to swap it out for the serpent scale mail he's still carrying around.
