2.0 update has been submitted for review - let's hope Apple is quick with this one Only 2,5 years since last update I'll promise to release future updates with a bit more rapid pace.
Wow, this is some developer dedication! You know how many roguelikes I've bought over the years for ios which have disappeared from the app store? :cries:
Wow, you think that 3 lousy bucks is too much for 2,5 years of work? You even want it for free? That's cheapskate at its best... Btw., asking for a promo code can get you banned. Sometimes I am really embarrassed to be an iOS gamer.
I've heard you and know what you mean. But a dollar per year of development should be appropriate for everyone. Asking to get it for free is more than cheeky.
Now that it's been submitted (and to get back on topic); here's an early change log for Cavern 2.0... The friendly characters are a blast to be wondering around and suddenly find an alley. It was a thrill to find my first secret cavern chamber too.
(Edited the original message out since messages it replied to are moderated away) Anyway, I promised to have some sort of freebie giveaway to celebrate 2.0 release so here's a small contest: Cavern 2.0 has short textual descriptions for all item types, and some have random alternatives. Some examples: Ring : "The gold ring has been crafted with the utmost skill." Necklace : "A pendant holding precious stones is attached to this necklace" Think up a new alternative description for a ring or necklace - winners up to ten will get their description to game (next minor update) and nick / real name to credits (can opt-out too of course) in addition to free copy of game Some rules: -Of course no foul language -One or two sentences -No references to other games / people etc -Descriptions are subject to proof reading and correction if needed
There's by the way official web site at http://www.cavern2.com I'll upload new gameplay video from final version later today (the one on web site is from beta and shows couple bugs )
Congratulations! The update was a lot of fun in beta and hopefully this will bring Cavern to a new audience. The friendly NPCs and underground buildings add a lot of unique touches atypical to many iOS roguelikes and the atmospheric sound effects are great. Here are some ideas; thanks for the contest... Ring: A grimey and scratched ring somehow made irresistable by a powerful aura. Necklace: A soft velvety cord with a mysterious sewn pouch. Ring: A silver ring sculpted with a snake eatting it's own tale and slightly warm to the touch. Necklace: A small corse rope with small mammal bones attached. Ring: A fantastic blue light blurs your vision when looking directly at this ethereal ring. Necklace: An uncomfortably heavy but sturdy necklace carved with runic symbols. Ring: A folded parchment ring scribbled with foreign text emits an inconcevible low buzzing sound. Necklace: A orange crystal pendant that seems to pull you towards the depths. Ring: A small iron band engraved with a name that is indecipherable. Necklace: The familiar silver necklace brings back memories from your childhood. Ring: A black metal skeleton ring that's slightly too tight but so cool looking it's worth it. Necklace: Random chains fashioned into a makeshift necklace gifted from a romantic interest you couldn't resist.
Looks like an amazing update! Here are my entries for the contest: Ring : "A simple titanium ring that appears to have an engraving on the inside." Necklace : "A thick silver band with a brilliant orange gem embedded in it."
Ring: It's a little tight, but you can stick your finger in it. Necklace: It might just be a necklace, but for the first time in your life, you feel special.
Great suggestions! Check your PM for your reward There will be small update (mainly sound related tweaks) to Cavern which I hopefully manage to wrap up this week - your alternate descriptions will be included in this update.
Just had a crazy glitch. I used a town portal spell to go back to town to sell a bunch of armor and stuff I had collected. After I jumped back to the crystal when I selected a space to move my guy glitched over a bunch of squares, to a space over water. So I start clicking around next thing I know I'm in a little room with this demon. Root of evil is what it said his name was. Sucks, cause I had some good equips that run.
Any impressions on the 2.0 version? I never did get around to picking up Cavern, and I always enjoy a good roguelike.
