Bug Panic is also my favorite "DSS-like" game. As with syntheticvoid, it ruined all other DSS for me. Try out the lite version and beat the first boss. Then spend a few rounds in the endless/timed arenas. Those were the 2 modes that sold me on Bug Panic. It gets really really frantic. Bug Panic has one of the most fun (to me) multiplayer..but sadly, pretty much no one plays it.

I'd say skip the sale and go for Bug Princess 2. lol.. I know its personal taste, but I find BP2 to be a lot more fun than BP1 (I like the level variety of BP2, and find BP1 to be too fast for me).

True bullet hell fans may disagree with me..but for people new to the genre, I'd say just buy the game with the theme you like (space/robots, bugs/insects or um..don't know the theme for ESP?). At the beginning you'll play just to survive and the scoring mechanics won't really mean that much. Once you get good enough at surviving, then you can start learning scoring mechanics. I'm more of a "survivalist" bullet hell player..I prefer to just try to survive the best I can.. Personally, I don't find score chasing to be fun, and I get more frustrated when playing for score..but thats just a personal preference.

Now for my own question..is DDPBD *fun* if just playing for survival? I tried the mame version a while time ago and found it too hard. How does DDPBD compare to BP2?

I'd say about as much fun as DDPR...

Compared to BP2... I'm finding Ultra Mode in BP 2 INSANE... But with DDPBD, I can play on hell just like DDPR and almost make it through the game if just playing for survival...

i find espgaluda 2 to be the most complex, because of the press this to activate this, etc.

    Thanks! Haha..I actually don't have DDPR. =O

The first vertical Cave game I bought is BP1 and didn't really enjoy it that much..so I didn't bother getting the others. But I'm glad I picked up BP2 (mostly cause keep hearing about how great Futari is). @2.99..I guess I'll bite for DDPBD and give it a shot. It surprising to me that I enjoy Deathsmiles more than BP1 cause I prefer vertical shmups...but we'll see if I still like Deathsmiles more after I spend more time with BP2. ;)

But my all time Cave favorite is Bug Panic. ;)

PS. If your finding BP2 Ultra mode to be insane..I'll probably have no chance. hahaha..lol.. But I'm smelling a competition coming this weekend for a BP2 friendly competition. ;)

Will pick up Bug Princess and Blissful Death. Have the rest. Haven't really been interested in their latest games, but $2.99 is a great deal.

I would say bug panic... it's more of a twin stick game, but it's still pretty fun...

also i found Espgaluda 2 to be quite easy on the normal difficulty setting...

Deathsmiles i found it to be the easiest of the one's I've played though

Bug Princess is really straightforward and has tons of combinations of mode and difficulty level, so it can start out super easy and ramp up as you improve. That's what I did.

Yeah, this or BP2 might be what I pick up. Played the lite and really enjoyed it. Since I'm not that great, I was actually surprised that I could beat the first level on hard (after breezing through novice and normal).

Does the difficult ramp up per level as well? (In addition to the settings).

Sure does, and each of the 3 modes gets more and more difficult as well.

I own all of the iPhone Cave games except DDPBD which I plan to
pick up over the weekend, but wondered if anyone would recommend DDPR and / or ESPG 2 HD versions for the iPhone 4s. Unlikely to buy an iPad anytime soon but BP2 has really got me back into my Cave collection and DDPR is still (for now) my favourite iOS title. Tried the lite version and can notice the difference, but not sure whether the difference is justified on the small screen, even with a 25% sale coming up.

    Anyone in the same boat?

I bought DDPR HD, not having had DDPR. The question is simple: do you want DDPR with better graphics for 10.99$? If the answer is yes, get it, you are unlikely to be disappointed.

Just found in BP2 options that there's pretty much a "slow down" mode that slows the game down when the action gets too intense. I guess this explains some slowdown when I play. This is the perfect feature I love as it helps me to survive. ;)

A nice feature for people new to bullet hell. I wish they'd put this option for all their games. Does DDPBD have the slowdown option?

Yes, a lot. The difference between novice-normal-hard-hell is less noticeable in normal mode, but once you play maniac, or especially ultra, it's obvious. But the difference between game modes (normal-maniac-ultra) is much higher than difficulty settings.

    A clip for you:

*If you want, you can watch the BLACK LABEL version, it's even more difficult. But I believe the one ported to iPhone is the standard version, not 1.5 or Black Label.

Dnk, thanks for the clip. Damn. Know I'd be toast in a few seconds in that mode.

According to Cave's tweet, its the 1.5 version.
    https://twitter.com/#!/cave_world_en/status/186694122910908419

Of course..I have no idea what the differences are..but I keep hearing people talk about the 1.5 version or the Black Label.

Someone else asked about including or putting out the Black Label..but Cave pretty much had no comment about that.

Looks like Cave decided to add that slowdown toggle to the first Bug Princess as well. At least, I got an update notice for the lite version.
