I did it for hours when I went to town yesterday, I almost had 2 sticks

 

You need to set your arrows up, then move the second to open the trapdoor and then put it back again quickly. I did have a screenshot of where to put it which I shared but not sure if I have deleted it - will have a look

To get the 788 you dont jam through the door, you have to open it first and have the arrows lined up correctly for a neat line to the cat.

 

My little stick has been at it for an hour now
