Hey guys, which series do you think is the better one, my friend and i have been arguing about this for the past 2 weeks and I need you guys to decide. I am on the side of castlevania. Simon Belmont Forever!!!
Tough call. Super Metroid is better than the best Castlevania game but Metroid: Other M is worse than the worst Castlevania game.
Are we talking current games too? I was just basing my vote off the classic games. Speaking of Metroid, did anyone else really love Metroid Fusion on GBA? I love that game, I still occasionally boot up my GBA to play it.
Metroid Fusion is still one of the best games I've ever played. As much as I love Symphony of the Night, Fusion was just too good to not vote for Metroid.
Same here. I loved Symphony of the Night, but I just had a better time playing through Fusion than Symphony of the Night.
Metroid got my vote. They both have amazing games, but I'm more into the futuristic theme, than the gothic castle. Also, I got a chuckle out of the fact that idevices auto correct the word "metroid" to the word "Netflix" lol
I'd say Symphony of the Night and Super Metroid are about equal in regards to being some of the best games ever made though. Specifically comparing each series though, I'd say Castlevania has more far more horrible games in it than Metroid, which really only has a few clunkers. I think the big divide comes from the fact that basically every 3D Castlevania game has been terrible while the Metroid series' hop to 3D was fairly successful with the Metroid Prime series.
Yeah, Castlevania was meant to be a 2D series, I also believe that Metroid is better in 2D. Maybe I'm just old fashioned...
Oh I agree, I think both series were meant for 2D but Metroid in 3D is at least workable. Castlevania in 3D is like... I don't know, I can't think of a comparison that would be appropriately terrible.
It's weird, I know Metroid has a higher ratio of good games, but I don't play them. I've spent time with a couple of the 3D games but never finished any. All in all I suppose Metroid has the best track record and probably even better future prospects, but none of them have captivated me as much as Symphony of the Night, which I play through about once a year and would vote as one of the top 10 games of all time.
They both have a certain charm that keeps me playing em. They were some of the first games to offer any decent replayabilty, with unluckables, hidden areas and plenty of weapons and upgrades. With metroid it was always finding the next gun, or missle upgrade. With castlevania, you get to kill a vampire, with a whip. What was more original than that, at the time?
Not even close. All the PS2 Castlevanias + Simon's Quest are considerably worse than Other M. -------- Metroid easily. It has at least 2 games that could be considered the greatest of all time (Super, Prime)
