I have an Xbox controller. And I’m really looking for the controller layout. Like I had no idea how to bring up the map until someone posted it here. Assuming I also won’t know how to use magic or switch weapons either.

At the greek appstore there arw a bunch of reviews for iphones 8-11 that the game doesn’t start or force closes. Did any of you trusted people here have any such problems? (I am on XR)

  5. Nope ... spent 1 or 2 hours already (ipad)

Not at all. I’m on an 11 and it’s been running perfectly since I got it. Not even too much of a battery hog. And it’s pretty damn perfect with a controller. Does anyone have a scan of the manual though? It’s been so damn long since I played this I forget so many of the buttons and actions.

Thank you. It plays fine for me too but it NEEDS a skippable game over screen and button customization because tell me you jump forward and attack midair successfully 100% of the time ;) one stupid candle got me six tries i think

100% of the time. ;) When you've been playing CV (and Bloodstained) as much as I have in my lifetime, attacking in midair in the games becomes second nature. Customizable controls are pretty much a must in all games at this point, but I haven't had a single problem with them.

Don't hold your breath for a fix, because there is none. The cinematics have been untouched since the original release in 1997 and were meant to play on TVs at 320x240! No matter which platform you play this on, the cinematics (and Game Over screen, in fact) are going to look like garbage.

I don’t nail the mid-air attacks all the time but it’s still very playable (and extremely enjoyable) on my iPhone 11. And, as Jared said in his Game of the Week article, “this is Symphony of the Night in your pocket. For three dollars. What more needs to be said!?”.

I do hope for custom button placement, but the touch controls really are decent and don’t take away the fun I’m having with the game. The one thing I find myself doing is wanting to touch a little left of or below the attack button causing it not to register.

Well, I spent my Saturday basically playing this. AGAIN. This is my third or fourth play through of SotN. I first played it on PS1, then again when it came out on XBLA a long while back. The game just sucks you in. The music is even better than I remember it. I knew it was one of my favorite games ever, but since this iOS release I remember exactly why. Speaking for the iOS release, I’ve had no issues with crashes or any kinds of bugs and the battery drain is practically nonexistent. What an absolute treat it is to have this masterpiece on my iPhone.

So question: how do you get in to Olrox’s Quarters? I know it’s through the Big Clock room, with the passage being behind the left statue that moves out of the way after a minute has elapsed, but I’ve stood in that room for ever and the statue will not move, the big clock isn’t even ticking anymore!!! HALP!!! WHAT DO I DO?!?!?

    Wow.

    That's it.
    Just;;;;;;;; WOW.

The last Castlevania game I played was Dracula's Curse on the NES when I was about 10 years old. A little before this, I had gotten into Metroid and that seemed to capture my attention a LOT more than the Castlevania games.

However, I've always been a little curious. And now, as the Metroidvania genre has remained my favorite genre of video games over the last 3 decades and hearing from MANY gamers how SOTN is not only one of the best within the genre, but one of the best video games in ANY genre :: EVER ::, my heart skipped a beat when I saw that this had been ported to the iDevice. More than that, it's ONLY $3?!?!?!
    I couldn't pass it up.

Right off the bat, I should say that the virtual/touch controls haven't given me any issues/caused any frustration so far.
I've only played for about 90 minutes but have beat Slogra & Gaibon as well as Doppleganger10 - without loosing a life - if that helps to tell you anything (and again, this is my first time playing this particular Castlevania title). Not trying to brag, I'm 100% sure that these bosses were a cakewalk compared to late-game enemies & bosses.... just trying to convey my feelings about the virtual controls.

So far, I've only found 2 hidden areas behind walls, but knowing that these are scattered throughout the castle has me even more psyched. I was also surprised when after fighting Doppleganger10, I made it to the first area that I've been able to teleport from, placing me back around the beginning of my journey. Knowing that I don't have to backtrack EVERYWHERE, EVERY time I get further into the game is another big plus.

The only thing I've looked up online is the completed map - and I only took a cursory glance at it - but knowing that this game is fairly large has me even more excited.
Basically, everything I've experienced/learned/seen having to do with SOTN so far has me nothing but SUPER PSYCHED to finally experience the magnificence of this game - and the controls not giving me any trouble as well as the stellar battery drain (after playing for the first 45 minutes, I think only about 5% of my battery was gone - and I have a 6S, so it's a fairly old battery - will ensure that I dump a TON of my free time into this whenever I get a chance.
Lastly, the save points are numerous. Surprisingly so. I think it also saves (soft saves?) when you close the app and next time you boot the game back up, 'Continue' should be selectable. You'll be taken to either the room you were just in, or to the room before it (maybe 2 rooms back sometimes.... but I haven't experienced having to beat a boss again, so no major loss of progress has happened for me so far). Then 'Load' will take you back to the last save room you saved from. All of this = HUGE 'YAAAAAAAAAY YAY YAY YAY YAH, YEAH, YEAH!!!! WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

    =D

I think Konami might have just redeemed themselves for most (if not absolutely ALL) of their past iOS blunders by porting and releasing this for the iOS (and AT SUCH A LOW PRICE POINT!!!!!).

I'm SO freakin' happy right now!!

Playing on the large iPad Pro I am just finding the controls to be way too small and requiring a very precise tap position.
Getting killed due to miss taps just ain’t fun.

Just an option to change the size and location of the virtual controls would make this a must play.
The devs must have thought about this at some stage surely, so I guess it’s just too hard to implement. :(

Getting a “not enough free space to save” message at the save point.
    What gives?
I got 18gig free storage on my iPad. o_O

    Edit:
Must be something to do with having a Copy of a save file in the menu. When I removed it all seems okay again.

Anyone figure out if it’s possible to look at the map on a 8bitdo Zero 2?

if it helps it has a d-pad, four front buttons, select, start, R and L shoulder buttons.

Same here. I tried touch controls on my Pro for the first thirty minutes after buying the game and came to the realization that this is going to play much better with my game controller. Having options to adjust button size and position would be great to have in a future update.
