I don't mind this, but I wish the challenges had all been more universal. By this, I mean that some of the challenges to ONLY use creatures from one landscape are next to impossible. I'm at stage 36 now, and haven't gotten many decent creatures from a wide enough range to build viable decks for these challenges. The limited card storage doesn't help, nor the fact that all building and spells are rainbow and thus fail the challenge if used.

Something else I noticed when trying these challenges. If you run out of cards in your deck, a message continuously spams you at the start of your turn warning you that if you don't pay a gem to reshuffle, you will take 1 damage each turn. The game then proceeds to do far more than 1 damage, it seems to be about 6-9 a turn. Thus you can't just make a super small deck of good cards to complete these challenges, you have to throw in useless cards you can't use or pretty much automatically die.

Completely agree. Really, for the cost of a few dollars the game IS fun, despite some of the significant flaws. As long as people know what they are getting into, I think the game does have some fairly enjoyable mechanics.

My advice for anyone playing without the Battle Wheel is, don't bother with storage capacity, just got straight for the Algebraic Chests. A few good cards makes such a huge difference in progressing further. This is a game in which a single overpowered creature can win matches. I just got a good example of this today: Mud Angel, 9 attack, 21 defense, and for ONE magic permanently reduces the defense of ANY opposing creature by 6.

Heads up, I just installed the update and it completely wiped out my progress. I'd suggest waiting to update and seeing if this is an isolated problem or not.

what is there to update exactly? doesn't seem like there were any bugs unless they're removing the timer..

All of the reviews are gone... What the heck??? Like the game literally has no reviews on the App Store as of right this second.

Gotta hit "all versions". Every time an update is released, they get a new review "front page" so to speak.

I noticed they fixed a bug with the battle wheel that could have the user miss an unblocked attack, but aside from that there's no glaring changes I've noticed.

Edit: nope, that bug still happens. So I don't know what changed.

The amount of anger being targeted at this game is ... incredible. Is it really a mystery as to why it's popular? It's a great game based on a great episode of a great TV show. As much as we hate to admit it, we're the vocal minority of iOS gaming. Most people with an iPhone see a game like Card Wars and say to themselves, "Oh awesome! They made that Adventure Time episode into an actual card game!" (Which is what most of my Facebook friends have done, it'd seem, by posts surrounding this game.)

The attitude of, "Whoa, whoa, whoa let me scrutinize exactly where each penny of mine is going in this game to verify the cents to enjoyment ratio is optimal... WAIT IAP?!? #### THIS I'M OUT!!!" isn't something that's shared with a lot of normal people who just want cool things on their phone. I'd be shocked if many of these people even hit any kind of pay wall, as again, as analytics have shown time and time again, the vast majority of people out there play games for a few minutes a day- Not in a massive power gaming complete to 100% in a single session play style.

But, let's obsess over this game because, why not.

Great, and some casual players may well not have a problem in regards to the timer. However, that doesn't negate the fact that many people will find the timer intrusive, as has been explained in detail in this thread. Claiming that being affected by the timer means someone is "power gaming" to "complete to 100% in a single session" is being willfully ignorant of what has been posted on this thread. The timer is quite capable of preventing players from playing more than 2 matches in a row as the game progresses. That is hardly power gaming.

Well this is a discussion forum, specially a discussion forum for IOS games. Thus, discussing an IOS game on it seems pretty reasonable.

Well just to confirm, I tried updating my iphone and it wiped the progress on there as well. I could be the minority case here, but if you're pretty far into the game I would definitely wait for the next update or for some other reports from different users.

Kind of a bummer because I'm really enjoying the game and remaking decks isn't the most fun thing in the world. Fortunately, if you're not too far into the game it's pretty easy and quick to grind through the opening levels again.

Well I just updated and my progress is fine :D and I'm still really loving the game. I need to go watch the episode now as I haven't seen this episode yet.
Totally deserves to be number one.

Maybe it's a problem with older devices?

Not sure, I'm running a 5S and an iPad 4th gen. My girlfriend just updated hers and her progress was okay though. It seems like I may have just been unlucky.

While I mostly agree with you, a casual gamer would definitely hit a wall at some point. Once battles start taking 2-3 hearts, all it takes is a loss or two for you to hit that timer. In my case, it was two wins and two losses in a row, which took 15-20 minutes. Definitely not grinding out hours at a time.

Don't get me wrong; I really like the game, overall. But I do think the experience would be better without timers (are they really necessary for this game?) and with better/more frequent loot drops. My crystal ball says this game is going to be pretty grindy after ~Battle 20 or so.

I'll say this about the grind for more cards/characters: About level 25+, you start to see 2 star chests drop occasionally. The cards from these tend to straight-up blow 1 star cards out of the water. Because there is no minimum to the deck size, generally an effective deck only needs a few of these cards, plus the occasional huge card from an Algebraic chest. As awful as grinding for gems is, the payoff tends to almost always be a card that can single handily dominate a row.

A few examples of cards I've got from Algebraic chests:
Patchy the Pumpkin: 3 cost corn, 22 attack, 5 defense, 2 magic floop - lower opposing monsters attack by 5.
Cornataur: 4 cost corn, 17 attack, 19 defense, 3 magic floop - this creature and adjacent creatures gain +5 attack.
Mud Angel: 3 cost desert, 9 attack, 21 defense, 1 magic floop - choose an opposing creature and lower its defense by 6.

    From 2 star chests:
Beach Mum: 2 cost desert, 9 attack, 11 defense, 3 magic floop - gain +2 attack and +3 defense.
Corn Castle: 2 cost rainbow building - creature in this lane gets +2 attack for each of your creatures on the field.

In other words, while progression can be slow, the cards you get are massive improvements on 1 star cards, to the point my deck only uses 13 cards out of my 23 total available as you will win/lose later games based on a few select powerful creatures rather than a large deck of weaklings.

Wow people are actually buying a game so they can pay to play the game more? And on top of that trying dignify that it's ok?! Lol that makes me laugh.

Game developers are taking advantage of consumers so bad and your all mostly accepting it. Of course this will become the norm if people get letting it happen. The game developers are sitting back watching their banks fill up and lol while they are at it.

I'll wait for it to be free as long as they have a pay to play formula going on it will be free soon, or hopefully they take out the pay to play which I would prefer.

Glad I read this forum to find out.

I've had a fair amount of negative things to say about the game, but in the end, it is a decent game at it's core. I don't really think many people are trying to "dignify" that the timer/IAP system is a positive addition to the game's design, but certainly if a game is enjoyable, it is possible to have fun despite such purchase structures.

I refuse to support this type of payment structure just my opinion, whether its enjoyable or not it's sketchy to me to have $3.99 prince point plus in game purchases to be able to play it at your leisure. Hate it.

My problem is the price point and THEN having to pay more for TIME. Really? Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I play to get away from time constraints. I could see paying less or free and then paying. NOT @ 4 bucks

Hold up, you think game devs are taking advantage of us gamers when we are getting a top quality voice acted game with a major licence for £2.49
Seriously? I fail to see how there can be much cause for complaint at App Store prices.
Sure I get angry now and then when you buy a game then it drops free the next day but the prices of these games are so cheap these days it's hard to complain about any aspect of the actual game for the price we pay.
Maybe it's because I've grown up paying a hell of a lot more for my games or maybe it's just because the App Store has made people cheap asses these days.
But I certainly am not feeling ripped off after paying £2.49 for this game,
I'd still recommend fans of adventure time or card games pick it up.
