I've completed quite a few of these and only got one extra hero card, so I'm pretty sure they are either given out randomly or there is something more to obtaining them.

I can see where others are coming from in response to Eli. His defense of the game was pretty passive-aggressive, suggesting players were either really impatient or poor at the game to be bothered by the timer. Meanwhile, he plays through the linear story path with the battle wheel on, removing any challenge but being able to progress through the refreshing missions. This would be something worthwhile pointing out when defending the timer, as it makes a huge difference in who is going to be hampered by it. It seems pretty weak to claim the timer will only hamper bad players while using a system specifically added for the IOS version to make the game extremely easy. As for the impatient comment, at 13 hearts max for my current timer, I am faced with missions that take 5 hearts each to attempt. A max of 2 unsuccessful attempts hardly seems impatient in wanting more plays.

Differing opinions are fine, but some of Eli's comments seem to be fairly dishonest as he is defending aspects of game with personal anecdotes rather than actually discussing mechanics in a way that allows others to form their own understanding of how the game's systems work and may hinder play.

Man, we got a whole ward of butthurt people in here now. I was hoping that doctors visit made you better, Bzoeit (or whatever your name is)

Who cares? If it bothers you that much, go away and contact D3 or Cartoon Network. Let them know how upset you are over an iOS game. I'm sure after hearing you cry for all of but 3 seconds they will immediately release an update and fix whatever you think is terrible about this. I am sure of it... It is incredible the amount of stupidity and general butthurt you guys have going right now. It is always cool to hate. You guys must be some of the coolest guys on the internet. Wow.

That being said, made it about halfway through the map and haven't paid a cent and I have a killer deck rolling right now. The battle wheel is meh, but I have learned to live with it. Timer has yet to run out. So yeah, what is the deal? Oh yeah, don't care.

But, guess Its my turn to leave the thread now so I don't have to scan through the whining. I will be enjoying this game. I hope you all can find a game you enjoy, so you can stop wasting your time crying about this one.

I'm pretty far in the game now and I am finally noticing how annoying hearts are, but it is still pretty fun. The one thing they should change is the price of gems because $0.99 per gem is kind of ridiculous; it's like they are making it so you don't want to buy IAP.

Loving this so far,can anyone tell me,is there a way to increase your active deck (not deck as a whole) as I'm currently only able to use 16 cards in a battle?Or is this just a set rule?

The deck size is tied to each 'character' you have. So if you are playing as Jake, whatever level Jake is determines how many cards he can use, and will increase if you level him up. Unfortunately, this also means that if you want to switch to a lower level character, you have to go to the deck editor and remove cards.

Eli was only speaking from experience, and in the initial part of the game, what he mentioned is true.

The grind/wall doesn't pop up until after the first area of the map (which you "discoverr"), when enemies start using 2- or 3- star cards.

Amidst all the noise you spit it there in your aim to be Forum Elitist Guy, I'm catching onto the idea that for all your complaints of our "hurts" and how they're "not helping", you're offering nothing else. You're offering a critique of a group of people's criticism. Is that how far one needs to reach to get to that Above it All place?

And while you were running your mouth you missed the point that we DO enjoy this game. We paid for this game, and are all currently logging minutes enjoying it. We have a complaint with the BS paywall included in a paid-for game. It's a transparent grab at money from fans whom the devs are hoping will be suckered into spending $10 or $20 more for the app they already plunked down $3.99 for.

So maybe instead of starting arguments like a 12-year-old and trying to derail what could become enough of a group complaint so as to catch the dev's attention and get it fixed, go away and let the grown-ups talk for awhile. I mean, you're the expert. You'll never ever hit that paywall. Not you, Pro.

You're getting criticized because of your original post, which was poorly articulated and appeared to be angry at a paywall simply for the sake of existence of a paywall, rather than any impact it has on the gameplay elements. Your posts doesn't really distinguish itself from anonymous person who hates a game simply because it has a paywall.

If you had mentioned sooner that you disliked it because in the latter part of the game (and providing examples), grinding was not possible because of the timers, that would have a case, but your posts are just reactions that don't provide any insight beyond anger, which isn't really useful feedback (except to those consumers who also hate games simply because they have a paywall) to the discerning reader. And Eli provided video evidence to make his case, which is more than can be said for your complaints (i.e. your complaints are valid, but without supporting proof, is not supporting your argument).

It was unfair of me to call Eli dishonest, as I don't believe that was his intention. However, Eli did say himself that he was "really deep" into the game, and I think in his zeal to defend it, he overlooked a lot of factors that should have been mentioned when supplying prospective consumers with impressions that may sway their decision to purchase a game one way or another.

Basically when looking at Card Wars and trying to determine who will enjoy it and who may be disappointed, I see a couple of important factors to note:

    1. The game has a mechanic called the Battle Wheel, I've explained this several times so to avoid repeating myself I'll simply state that it's purpose seems to be to make the game accessible to players less familiar to card games. You can turn this off.

    2. With the Battle Wheel on, you can progress fairly quickly through the linear path of the story, which has periodic duels that refresh the timer. There is little challenge, but players will find the timer less intrusive using this feature. With the Battle Wheel off, you play the game as originally designed, but can, and likely will, lose some duels once you reach stages with AI using better cards. Playing like this, the timer will become noticeably intrusive.

There are other factors to consider, such as balance and gems, but the above is pretty much the considerations to be taken with regards to the timer. Casual players probably won't be affected much. Players that want and expect a challenge, will likely find the timer fairly aggravating as they progress.

BTW, someone asked about character cards earlier in the thread. I got Ricardio Heart Guy today from an Algebraic Chest. It announced it was a super rare drop which was disappointing as it cost be 3 gems for a character with a weak ability I likely will never use. So unfortunately, aside from gems being difficult to collect, yet needed to gain better cards, there is also a chance of getting characters every time you spend them.

Why the heck is this the number 1 app in lots of Appstores?
It comes at 4 bucks and has IAP and other stuff, which people normally strongly dislike.

Worse news: This means that they'll likely keep making stuff like this / not change the timer on a paid game. Great.

I guess in a way, the devs were genius. They used a brand everyone loves, made it cost money, made it freemium, and made bank. Win for them.

I'm not positive, but i believe they built TONS of hype by having an episode of Adventure Time dedicated to Card Wars. Lots of people seemed to have been looking forward to its release since then. I haven't seen the episode (might watch it though) but seems to have been a pretty smart move

Does anyone know if the game runs smoothly on the iPod touch 4th gen? ( I read in an App Store review that someone was having issues and was wondering if it was a universal issue)
    Cheers

Well so I've just played this and I think that's about 45minutes straight of playing before I've run out if energy to play, I now have at least three minutes to wait until I can play another round.
I'm playing with the battle wheel off, and the game itself is very cool, like I said I love adventure time and just like the other Cartoon Network games it got the adventure time feeling just right, from the graphics, voice overs and everything it's deffinetly an official adventure time game.
It's cool how each level has three sets of goals to go for to give you a reason to replay them and the deck building and card playing is all very cool.
The only downside is the timer, already at battle 3 and it takes two hearts per battle so this is really not good if you want to play more than a game or two in one sitting. Not sure about the gems yet as it says you need them to upgrade your deck size and to get new cards from the mystery chests and when the chest takes three gems to open, the IAP is 69p for 1 gem
Overall though I'd still say this is worth the £2.49 because I do really like adventure time and this looks like a really cool game from what I've played so far. Shame about the waiting but that seems to be the way things are going these days. So if you like adventure time and just want to play a game here and there then I'd still recommend this.

Really enjoying it so far, but I'm a bit concerned about the energy/paywall. It does exist. You won't see it for the first 15-20 battles, but I ran into it after defeating the first 'zone' (after which you fight Lady Rainicorn). She outlevels you, and the cards she plays are generally stronger than yours. I was okay the first two battles, but lost twice in a row in the 'final' battle against her, hitting the wall. I guess what you're supposed to do at this point is go grind a million cards/XP from earlier areas, but meh -- that's not great gameplay.

It's obvious this was a freemium title that is being sold for $3.99. That said, I enjoyed it enough so far in the first 15-20 battles that I'd still recommend it. Going to try replaying a few earlier levels to get more stars, and see how it goes.
