I am just wondering... because there were games, exactly like this, before. But none of these games caused an uproar like this. I am not often sharing the same opinion with Eli, but yes: games like these are targetted at the casual gamer market. People, who are able to dedicate an hour or two a day for gaming. I think most members of touchArcade are more from the hardcore gamer section, playing for several hours a day. To make it simple: this isn't the game they are looking for. I love playing two other f2p card games with timers and I never spent a dime on them - I get back to them twice a day and enjoy them as free-to-play. This game initially costs 4 bucks. But you get some decent voice acting, lots of polish and a game from a valuable brand, not some unknown stuff. I am also playing two other iOS games with consumable IAP (one MMO and one Poker game). I spend around $25 on both every 2-3 months. So I really can't see the difference between buying 10 games for 2-3$ each (which last 3 months) or spending 25$ on two games I constantly play. Wait two more years, people, and you'll be glad if there's a game like this in the future.
Well, I have around 400 games on my iPad ... inclusive games like X-COM and other high end titles ... so I have no problm with spending money ... But I have a huge problem with a selling tactic like this ... and I am avoiding titles like that. This time I was not clever and I purchased it before I read here in the forums ... so a Little bit shame also on me ...
Yeah, same here - no problem spending money. But if you really regret your purchase, you can always try calling the Appstore hotline and refund it if the features weren't obvious. Dunno if you would be successful here: there's an IAP warning in the app's description. Btw.: which city are you from?
Lübeck ... but the last ten years I lived in Paris, Leiden (NL) and Brüssel ... now I am back in my Hometown.
Agree 100%. I'm several hours in now though, and The constant flow of cards has slowed considerably. The few cards I am getting are of little value. I have a number of cards that I can craft, but many are not particularly useful, or at least not significantly better that what I currently have. Especially when it requires 2 or 3 of my better cards to make. Opponents are getting increasingly better cards and higher health. LSP in particular has several very overpowered cards making it nearly impossible to beat. It's going to take some luck, or possibly some serious grinding. I definitely see a paywall coming. I predict by the end of the third area. Still, the game is VERY fun. Even if only playable til the 4th area. $4 well spent.
I've made it up to level 31 so far. I'm finally able to craft some level 2 rarity cards . I've bumped heads with the timers a little, but; nothing too crazy. I'm really enjoying this game.
Generally though, games with timers are freemium, and the timer, like it or not, makes a twisted bit of sense in that the games are multi-player collectable games designed specifically to keep people coming back and buying IAP. This is single player, and I have yet to see what positive element the timer adds to this game, nor why it is necessary considering how the IAP in the game works. By all accounts, it simply seems to be a bad design decision that mars the gameplay for some players. On a separate note, Field of Nightmares seems to crash the game. This isn't so much a problem until you get later in the game and the AI begins to cast it.
The developer of the physical game chimed in on BGG. Apparently the two games use the same art and a similar layout, but the IOS game was made separately, by different people, and with extremely dumbed-down mechanics. The physical game is actually truer to the TV episode, as the Pig actually eats the corn fields, and other cards also work much as they did in Adventure Time.
Nice, I was just looking at ordering the physical card game for when it releases as both me and my kids love adventure time and it seems like a game we could play together. Just watched the card wars episode this morning and it's funny, made the game even funnier and better.
Haha I clearly stated in another post I would pay $9.99 for this game but it has pay to play features plus charging for the game...I won't support that and am baffled by anyone who would support it.
Yep, probably because most normal people don't have lots of hours free in a day to play games so there happy with just a game or two when they have the free time. I used to not like this model but I've grown to not mind it as it seems to be the way that makes money for devs and that's what they are after in the end. So love it or hate it I think this type of game model will be here to stay for quite a while.
http://www.148apps.com/reviews/adventure-time-card-wars-review/ This just came in, I guess. Sums it pretty much up for both the pro and contra squad.
It's all my opinion man I won't ever support this format. I'll get the game if they ever include an option to get rid of the time restrictions or it goes on sale for free. Not doubting that this isn't a very good or even great game, just seems kind of greedy the way they did it, in my opinion of course. They could have made plenty on just charging for it. But instead they want to squeeze out every cent from people they can. That's their right I just won't support it.
Well, a Forum is a place to discuss different opinions ... you should think about it ... Maybe you should consider to accept that some people are not your opinion and nevertheless: They have the same right to write it here ...
By the way: I got my money back from Apple ... so I am out! By the way: It is very, very simple to understand why a timer / pay wall is only good for the developer: You have always to trust them, that the game will be a Kind of "fair" ... it is easy for them to make it harder and harder so that you have to pay again and again just to play ... On the other hand: If there are no timer then they have no reason to make the game unbalanced ... So, for me it is simple: I am willing to pay even a premium amount for a premium game ... but I will never ever spend even 1 Euro to support developer which are making their money with pay walls ... because with every game which has success with a timer / pay wall the more games will have this in the future ...
Well it is currently 12th top grossing on the App Store so I'm assuming that all this complaining about it is not going to solve anything. We should just get back to discussing things about the game and not complaining about timers.
Well here's some game discussion. Does anybody else feel a little bit guilty when they beat BMO I'm just enjoying the simple game and fan service here, nice graphics and sounds so it all looks and sounds like the cartoon. Multiplayer would be sweet but I'm not sure how they would balance it with people making their own decks? Maybe online you could just get to choose one of the characters and they come with a already build deck? Either way I'm enjoying the game.
I'm just responding back to people explaining my opinion if you don't agree i don't have any problem with that. We have the right to disagree with each other which is fine. And I believe the format of the game will be changed at some point and I'll be happy to purchase it when that happens!
