Yep, was frustrated at first, now very much enjoying this and would not be as rewarding any other way.
Funny enough, what you guys describing is the strongest and also weakest spot of Card Thief's design. In order to have a feeling of discovering something new, i had to create some actual new rules that are very interesting but you have to put in some time to learn those. This makes the game less accessible but in the end much more enjoyable in the long run. I was really worried that people won't get over this initial barrier. But it seems that even the broader App Store audience, which is used to being spoon fed rules and mechanics very gently is accepting Card Thief's challenges.
Bug? I've also had trouble with not being able to steal from blinded enemies. I get their value up to 10 but they don't turn yellow when I am behind them, and moving though them just gives New the normal one treasure and subtracts their value from my stealth. Am I missing something? Also, it can't be said enough, play the tutorial a few times. The whole thing about cards raising value is explained there. Cards with an arrow facing up on their upper left corner raise the multiplier (number shown at top of screen) which multiples every cards value. This is totally in the tutorial but everything took me a couple play throughs to remember. Personally, I love that the game is somewhat obtuse and made me scratch my head and play through again to figure things out like upgrade clues. Gives the game a dark souls kind of feel where it slowly reveals itself to you. I would hate to see that sacrificed in favor of immediate accessibility. Boring. The one exception is the shadow step mechanic, as the dev has noted, even just a hint about that would be appreciated. Anyone racking up super high scores have some general strategy tips? I'm getting the hang of it, but feel like my skill is plateauing in the second castle.
I have been playing for quite a while.. just this is the only time I found part of the game to be annoying rather than improving the experience (that said, every other part makes it an absolute masterpiece, and there's a lot of parts to this beast!). Completely agree with the two card rule outside of this very specific situation
Is anyone else getting Game Center notifications for achievements when you get them, but then not having the achievement actually show up in your Game Center when you look at high scores?
I hear ya, that situation specifically...I mean you are friggin at the END lol...and bam...all for nothing. The game can be a tad unforgiving, but god is it addictive. I am really hoping, and wondering if they plan to support Card Thief with as many patches and content updates as Card Crawl? Hey Arnold! # Any chance you can reveal what the future of the gem that is Card Thief might hold?!
Hah! Absolutely, looks like you made a good call there, people seem to just not be able to say enough good things here, even though they may be immensely frustrated atm. That's a touch of magic there my man, you obviously have a gift # Also, I think changing the quest requirements to mechanics of the game...more advanced mechanics instead of how you initially had to upgrade them in beta was a great idea as it almost forces players to learn or seek to learn the more advanced mechanics of the game. viewed in a different light...this is actually helpful haha.
I just got the second upgrade for blinding powder Your wording helped me out a ton, mainly that you have to steal that much from a single guard. Since I just pulled it off, I can confirm that it's not a bug. Just my stupidity. I didn't even know that the amount of cash you steal from a guard skills with the value of the card. Anyway, thanks a lot, and sorry if I made your job any harder than it already is with bug testing.
Yeah, the content patch that we have planned includes adding a Tavern on the bottom of the menu, where there is only a building site right now. This Tavern will have different type of thieves that you can play with. Each thief will have different traits or rules to them. These thieves will be payed by giving them stolen goods (which will replace the trash loot cards). They are going to be a money sink to have something to spend the extra chest items on. We also have plans for a little crafting idea where you can trade in stolen goods for extra equipment cards that have a one time use. Basically a score booster to attempt extra highscore runs.
Ask again Spoiler How to make a non-zero sneak card in the light? No idea how to get treasure out of a warden
I have the cloak upgraded but it didn't seem to change. Still says 5 stealth. What has altered? Now that I know to open the chest, the game is more interesting. I dont generally play this sort of game. I'm used to rpgs where chests open themselves Having to learn the mechanics is fine but the layout of some of this game is not easily deciphered. It is a lovely game once you see more of the depth but some people who arent on forums like this, who are playing casually, may give up early. Has no one else found a skull in a chest and then had it disappear when you go to the equipment section?
I dont know how to do the blacked out spoilers but in the daily heist I just tried, one of the lower cards was a bottle with some dead curled up thing that increases the value of a card by one, and I tried it on the illuminated sneak card. It worked.
Hi, Arnold, I found that this is not available in China AppStore now. May I know why? Will it be launched in China at some point?
There's a water arrow in equipment that extinguishes illuminated cards. That would seem the likely way to do it.
