I am sorry if this has already been mentionned in the thread, but proceeding to the second dungeon, I find that I don't seem to understand the capture rules at all, and they are barely mentionned in the tutorial. What qualifies as captured? Why can I knock out a guard card with my stealth then going below zero sometimes, while other times, I'll just "push" him, and other times, I will just be captured, even in the dark. Even the various feedback don't seem to be consistant. What do the various icons mean? Are there various rules depending on the "sense" being used? Is there a manual somewhere? Thank you in advance.
Hey guys, glad to see some Upgrade quests discussions already Going through few question: - 2 card requirement will definitely stay it's crucial to the game's design. - Treasures are the diamonds you get from treasure-cards and stealing. So stealing 10 from a blinded guard would be the quest. If this does not work it's a bug and i need to double check it. - To reiterate getting captured: If you are in the light with 0 or less stealth and a guard sees you, you get captured. If you have more than 0 stealth and try to sneak past a guard that reduces you to below 0 he will capture you. And then there's the shadow step. I know this is not explained enough, i need to work on that: If you are already on 0 or below you can shadow step enemies in the shadow, if you are in the shadow your self. They get a smoke cloud visual around them (maybe needs to be more obvious). So when shadow stepping an enemy you won't remove it's card but swap spaces with him. This reduces you stealth points further but won't end the game.
I am trying to understand the mechanics of the gameplay but it's difficult. Can anyone please explain to me in these below screenshots, how the score can change so much?
Card values get multiplied. On the top of your screen you can see the current path value which is multiplied with the card base value. Each time you select a card that is not adjacent to a card that path value increases by one.
Loving working my way through this game. Is there a quikcer way to get the silver coins to progress or just keep playing?
Well it's worth reading the comments. Ive been playing and didn't know you could open the chests. Hopefully that will make it more fun. So far Im on the fence. Possible small bug. I opened four chest in a row, of course. Haha. And as well as insignia I got one of those white rat skulls, or whatever they are. But once at the equipment store, it says I have zero of those skulls. Also how did I miss that the chests are openable? Is it said anywhere?
Have to echo previous comments, the game mechanics really aren't well explained. I have a heck of a time working out when I can backstab someone for example - do they need to be in shadow? do I? if I've alerted them can I no longer stab them? The inventory stuff is also pretty badly done, I didn't even realise I had the cape to use as it said I needed to finish with 10+ stealth but that was to upgrade it not to unlock it. There's a very good game here but you have to fight to get to it and that's a problem when we live in an age where people expect instant gratification.
Fun game. I am definitely enjoying this more than Card Crawl and I really enjoy Card Crawl. One minor thing I hope to see in the future, card avatar unlockables like in Card Crawl via quests.
Small bump, because as much i like DRtC, it isn't really something new. Card Thief, on the other hand, is something special. Obtusely explained, but special.
So no chance of there being an exception to the two card rule just if you're directly next to the exit? And just noticed you're top 10.... HOLY wow. You deserved it!
You honestly just need to play the game more, practice, and be more prepared. I absolutely agree on the 2 card rule here. No offense, I have been in the same situation quite often, especially at first.
Lol...I have no idea how you missed that ...what else DO you do with chest?! It's the main progression mechanic, though...as with everything in this game, much is vague and veiled esotery! I am actually loving being frustrated by this, because when something I totally don't get finally snaps it's very rewarding.
This is weird. I managed to clock everything pretty quickly. Someone earlier in the thread advised people to play the tutorial, then play a round of two, then go back to the tutorial again. That should help you, especially with regards to the shadow aspect. Never play a Reiner Knizia board game if you find Card Thief's mechanics cryptic. I guess I'm happy to not have everything telegraphed and getting to slowly discover hidden mechanics not mentioned in the tutorial (i.e. the clear the board energy refresh). That's always been the game within the game when it comes to things like this. Great job as usual! So good to see a game blossom from its inception not long after the release of Card Crawl to now.
Ok, I made significant strides in gaining better understanding of some of these mechanics and quests for upgrades. In the past 45 minutes I have fully upgraded my cloak, fully upgraded the distraction arrows, and the little bottle that decreases card values. This was quite rewarding to just stumble through and figure out on my own, so I don't want to spoil things, but I will say this....even though I'm on the second to last castle/dungeon of the game....sometimes it pays off to go back to one of the easier areas just to complete the item quests. Also unlocked some through the daily heist as it gives you random items to use....today I was lucky enough to get to use item I hadn't even unlocked yet...one of which is absolutely required to complete one of your earlier item' s upgrade quests. Also, for the cloak, I was thinking I had to get my stealth to 30...like 30 current usable stealth. This is not the case...just have to GAIN 30 total in one game. I just said the hell with it, I just wanna see 20+ stealth on my card haha and discovered this one by accident. In this case, the description just may need to be reworded, the others however....just need a little pondering, meditation, and experimentation # Feel like the game is really opening up and becoming more clear to me almost every time I play. Also, went and bought Card Crawl now, can't wait to try it out!
