You should know that it is similar, but there are some really major differences. Yes, you play cards with arrows on them like Triple Triad, but in this game, instead of playing on one board and trying to capture the other player's cards, each player has their own board and you are trying to arrange your cards in "chains" with arrows touching each other. Get three in a chain and then you perform the action for whichever symbol you got most of. If you want a more pure clone of Triple Triad on iOS, just do a search for "Triple Triad" on the app store. There are actually quite a few, including what looks like a totally unauthorized remake of the actual game, art and everything, lol. Edit. I think I'm confusing Triple Triad and Tetra Master.
Total Biscuit did a favorable summary and look at the game mechanics for the PC version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uX6qsbOca_Y Overall looks like a great game and without the endless IAP. Between this and Calculords I should have a great time.
Impressions from some guy who's only experience with electronic card gaming is poker: First of all this game is extremely easy to fall into. I found myself completely wrapped up into it within 5 minutes. The story, graphics, and it's sense of humor really serve the game well. At it's base is the games card battling system, which has already been explained several times in this thread. It's very easy to learn, and fun to play. The only real complaints I have involve menus. The menu to choose your location is not done very well, IMO, and the way you customize your deck could be MUCH better. Those drawbacks don't take me too far away from the greatness the game displays in all of it's other areas. 4.5/5
Wow I'm gonna have to get this. That price is generous and the other platforms dig it. What's not to like? I've never played ff9's card game so I wish I had so I can see how it plays. I've only played Triple Triad from ff8 (which is absolutely love).
I am not much into card games, but I am really liking this one. The fact that this game sells for just a dollar with no IAPs is just stunning. Spoiled, we are.
Ok some thoughts after playing some more: The good: -Lots of strategy behind both deck editing and playing your cards. I have a lot to learn in this aspect -Booster packs are fun! -Art is unique. It is not my personal favorite (I prefer Calculords' style) but it is nice The bad: -The UI is pretty bad. Deck editing, the menu screen, wherever the shop is that i have yet to find (might just come later). Regardless, there are buttons with no clear picture/words to tell what they do. There is no scrolling in deck editor, etc. Mostly minor thoughts but still room for major improvement in this area -I'm not positive, but i think there are some bugs. I swear I have made combos that were suppose to have a special effect due to one of my cards, and nothing happened. I know there is a lot that goes into whether the special effects take place or not, so i might be mistaken, but it has happened quite a few times. EDIT: I think part of my problem on this point was misunderstanding revives. I would often match a combo of an attack, neutral, and revive. And then nothing would happen. I'm pretty sure because the revive has two symbols, it outweighs that one attack and makes an (often useless) revive combo. Just need to watch for that better. This also makes me wonder what happens with 2 neutrals and an attack. Does the attack get outweighed by the neutrals? -I'm bad I can't beat anyone in the cave yet. I think i just need more variety in cards, as i have a lot of cards that have the same arrows (upper right, lower right) but not nearly as much to match (upper left, lower left). I did find it a little odd that the opponents at the school pretty much never made matches, and just stuck themselves with stalemates. Where as the opponents now are really good. Not much of an issue, a difficult game isn't a problem. Just pointing that there might be too much of a jump in difficulty too soon I know it looks like the bad outweighs the good from what i just wrote ha, but i don't think it does. Still an excellent value for $1. I mostly just need to get my deck in shape Last Edit: Also, why the heck does "Jenny Berry" disable one of my cards upon combo? I would understand that as balance if she had really good arrows.. but she doesn't.
The folks over at Apple must be nuts: they don't feature "Card City Nights" under this week's best new games, and instead feature "Laboratz"!
So I want to recycle some cards but the recycle doesn't show any cards I have in my decks. Anyone know how I can delete a deck to free up the cards I'm using in it? Doesn't seem to be a way, which is quite frustrating... Jamie
Ok, am i missing something? Demon Fish (defense): Disables a random enabled own card on defense combo (one up arrow) Demon Jelly (attack): Cannot be disabled, but on placement it damages owner 1.(upper left, upper right arrows) Jenny Berry (attack): Disable a random enabled own card on attack combo (up, upper right arrows) They are all uncommon rarity. Why do these cards have negative drawbacks? Why would I choose to use them over other perfectly fine cards that don't have drawbacks or even have benefits. I just don't get it.. The demon jelly is the only one i can maybe justify as it "cannot be disabled" but it is still not a card i would want to use. Are there suppose to be crappy pretty much useless cards out there?
