This game plays exceptionally well online, a friend and I play this constantly asynchronously but you can play live matches too.
Well we usually play 10 games at a time, takes just a couple of minutes to play a move in all those games but yes, it takes us about a week to finish all ten games. Depends how busy we are in work
I love this game but no-one ever wants to play me except cthibault. If you are serious about playing a game asynchronously then please add me and ask me for a game. My email is my username AT googlemail.com Thank you
I am flabbergasted. I really like the idea of the game, but I feel like a complete idiot playing it. I want to love it. I think I'll love it, but I'm feeling so lost and confused. The tutorial is good, but.... Not enough, methinks. I would love someone to help me a bit, more than just a PDF... Thanks
For starters, consider trying to block your opponent when a piece you've been given isn't of much use to you. Make it difficult (or, ideally, impossible) to complete a castle, for example, which will make them get fewer points AND tie up their follower for the rest of the game.
I still manage to play through online games regularly but I'm still really looking forward to those expansions. Wish we had an update so we could know when to expect them.
Agreed. The progress on the development of this game is slow, although one must admit that the quality shows that they aren't sitting around twiddling their thumbs. Still, I wish they'd pick up the pace a bit. I'm ready for the expansions.
I think my confusion is how to get points on completing a road, what is the completion? How do I build larger things? How do I complete the noted number of roads/castles in the solitaire mode? I know I seem daft, but I REALLY want to play this game and enjoy it, I see so much... I know there's just something slighty out of reach...
Um, a road is completed when it terminates on both ends. If it extends beyond the tiles in either direction, it can always get longer. The same is true for castles--if a castle extends beyond the tiles in any direction, it isn't complete. In solitaire mode, you aren't trying to complete a certain number of roads/castles. You're trying to complete roads/castles of a certain size. So if it says road: 2, you want to build a road that contains exactly two tiles and terminates on each end. Honestly, though, I'd focus on the real game, not solitaire. Just put in a bunch of weak AIs and play against them over and over until you get it. Here's a video on how to play (if you actually look, you'll find lots more of these): http://www.boardgamegeek.com/video/3075/carcassonne/how-to-play-carcassonne-pt-1-of-2-base-set
So, I watched the BGG video.... And wow. That guy is AMAZING. simply fantastic. I walked in having no clue what I was doing and walked out a massive convert. I freaking LOVE this game now. I've played about 10 games between myself and my wife and I can say without question, this game is one of our faves. I'm glad I bit the bullet. I wish I would have at $5, but with the enjoyment I've already gotten out of it, I don't regret it at all. I even completely get solitaire mode, and have one hell of a blast with it. My only frustration is the lack of expansions. But that's I'm the works, no eta though
Maybe I'll give that video a shot. I just find Carcassonne to be skull-crushingly dull. I don't even have it on my devices any longer, and I was a Day One purchaser. I feel like I set fire to that money. But maybe I'm looking at it all wrong. I'm willing to give it another shot. Thanks for the video link.
I don't know about the video, but I can tell you that Carcassonne is way more fun with real people and with more then just 2 players. 3 or more is a must. Otherwise it does get dull.
I just can't find out how to set an avatar for internet games. Everyone else has their own photo but mine is just a silhouette, how do I change it?

Still one of my most played games - hope they at least get the first two expansions out + The River II, I can live without the others. Although adding a 6th player might be difficult as it'd require a large UI change (at least on the iPhone) and quite honestly, the first couple of games I played, I thought the big meeple that you could drag was actually the large meeple. I'd also shell out another $5 for RK's Carcasonne: The Castle as that is my wife's and I's favorite variant for two player games.
I will pay for any and all expansions. Of course I'd rather they were free, but I'll pay if asked nicely. I can't wait!
