Never played this boardgame before, but the concept looks interesting. How is it for someone who's just starting? Is it worth $10?
Honestly, I'd say yes. The single-player game is great with multiple AI styles to go up against. The online is super fun and not intimidating at all. When you play against tougher opponents, you'll get destroyed but learn a lot. If you have an Xbox 360, you can try the demo of Carcassonne to get a feel for the general game, although the presentation is completely different.
Anybody else not get the email? I too want to add my account on both my iphone and ipad but I get no email.
Oh man... I can't tell you how hesitant I was when it was just $5. I was extremely hesitant, because I personally thought the concept looked a tad boring, and I didn't understand the appeal of it at all. So you already have a one-up on me. You think the concept looks interesting. I didn't even have that. For some reason I plunked the $5 down (I think more as an impulse buy than anything... 'cause I didn't want to see how expensive it might get later down the road). But boy am I glad I did. Probably my favorite game on the iPhone now, and has been for the last few months. The concept is so much better when you actually play it, and it involves the perfect amount of strategy and thinking/challenge for me. RISK is too in-depth for my tastes... I can't strategize like that. This is like RISK on a very very tiny level, and it's so much more accessible. If you're looking for a tactical game like Risk, I wouldn't count on loving this game as much as a lot of people (except for when the Tower expansion comes to the iPhone/iPad version of the game; that adds a fair level of tactics to the game), but if you're looking for an insanely accessible and very unique board game that doesn't require nearly as much deep-thought as a game on the level of Risk, then look no further. It's a wonderful game on its own, the app is the best board game conversion I've seen on the app store, and it is so much fun. I recommend it wholeheartedly
Sent an email to [ carcassonne(at)codingmonkeys(dot)de ] and they sent me a reply with a link that fixed this problem.
Oh thanks - I was really wondering, because I never saw a seafarer expansion for Carcassonne. Have confused that.
The word has always been that they are coming and will be DLC, and Gamecenter will also be added. That's pretty much all we've got on it. Given how long it took them to get the universal update out, I'm not going to hold my breath waiting. At least the quality shows.
I already have the board game and several expansions. I still won't buy the iPod/iPad version at $10 unless it includes maybe the Rivers expansions and maybe another small one or two. At $5 I would probably get it right away.
