Funny. I didn't know the new version was released and the price went up as threatened. I dropped in to say that they are crazy to raise the price to 9.99 because they will lose a lot of sales. Now it remains to be seen how long the price will stay at 9.99 There's no way I'd pay more than 4.99 for this game, regardless. I think they backed themselves into a corner with their previous promises, which they knid of kept, so now it's a matter of time until they rectify the situation.
Grabbed last eve for $4.99 - knowing the update was closing in. Haven't touched it though, because I'm jumping right into the HD version upon release.
Not to me is isn't, nor to a lot of other people who are more casual gamers and not rabid fanboys. You haven't heard of ebay or BGG? This is a digital download. It should never have even be in the VICINITY of an actual board game price. I give this 2 weeks tops before it's back to 4.99. Maybe devs are counting on the bitching to keep this thread near top of forums and draw some attention, then back down it goes. And seriously, ten bucks for Carcassonne? What? Every big name rpg is coming out in the next two weeks with start prices of 6.99, and Carc is ten? In Canada, this is about 11.50 after taxes. What do they think they have here? The next Chaos rings? It's a board game adaption of an already extremely cheap board game. They should be glad to get 4.99. I bet there are MANY who didn't even buy it at that price. And to compare an actual board game to something you play on a tiny screen with people who are not even there: it's not even worthy of a comparison as far as the overall experience goes. Carc, like most board games, is for socializing. Here, you pay ten, you don't get the socializing (unless you call playing online socializing, which I don't), you don't get the tactile interaction with a board or pieces, and you pay almost the same price. Ipad, it gets a bit better, but it's still not the same and not going to replace real board gaming anytime soon.
Or maybe they've already made a lot of money from it and a drop in sales won't do squat. Maybe they are planning on making the expansions free due to the high price-point. Maybe they are doing what every company does and capitalizing on Xmas. Maybe the world will end in 2012. Maybe brown sauce really is evil.
Looks like the price was raised before the update to universal. still don't see it. The app is dropping like a rock down by 60 places. Will be off the top 200 soon. This game looks good but I don't think it can support a $9.99 price tag.
I agree with the hairpiece The fact that I can take Carcassonne and put it in my pocket to take with me anywhere, the fact that there is a brand new single player mode, or the fact that I can play online with other carcassonne lovers all over the world isn't worth the NEGATIVE 10 dollar "premium" the dev is charging. I'd much rather pay 20 dollars, strap the board to my back, and carry a "meeple sack" until these devs stop ripping us off.
The price was raised when they submitted the universal update (most likely to make sure it was in effect whenever it was approved) It was also moving down the charts before the price increase. The EA game sale had most of their board games at 99 cents which always floods their games to the top spots. Once you are out of the top 50 in board games it's better to make more profit on each game sold than it is to do a sale and hope for volume sales. Since Christmas is christmas and new years are coming up soon any gain would be wiped out but EA's next sale.
$10 is still a fair price... I really hate all these sad price discussions by those cheap iPhone gamers. This is a great polished game, that will be universal in the next couple of days and that supports retina display, with a great single player, local multiplayer and internet multiplayer that all work perfectly fine... and the people still bichin' around about a price increase of nice Starbucks coffee. Get over it! Buy it for $10, wait for a sale or skip it if you can't or are unwilling to afford it.
yup people that dont have it or wont get it because of price are definitely missing out its a great game.
economics 101: units sold are not as important as revenue is... price elasticity of demand is the thing you want to look up if you want to know more Still, I don't expect a sale anytime soon. They had the game on sale for a very long time, now they increased the price as announced and my guess is that it will stay there for quite some time.
I snagged this on release day for $5, but I would have easily paid $10 for it. It's a great game to start with, and this is one of the most polished games on iOS in my opinion. It was a bargain at $5. My wife and I have gotten countless hours of entertainment playing against each other.
