Its an excellent game, with much to appeal to people who like Star Trek, and even people who are less intelligent then those people who like Star Trek.
I put it in the same category as something like Settlers of Catan (i.e. Euro Boardgame), although maybe even simpler to grasp the basics. Maybe something like Checkers...simple to grasp but will take years to master.
If you're asking if its a game where you are required to think... this game could be played my a monkey. all you have to do i match sides of the cards up. To play it well takes much more than that! there is quite a bit of strategy that can be employed in this game. Anyone can enjoy the game but if you're gonna play against friend make sure their on the same intellectual level as you! So if you don't watch Star Trek... don't play against some one who does
Yes, you could easily play this game against a child who would quickly pickup how to make a valid move...but until they understand the strategies of how far to push things, the relative values of different bonuses, etc., they probably won't do very well against you (but then again, they might get lucky).
I picked this game up last night after never playing it before and am really enjoying it. The games are quick enough where you can play for 10 minutes and the mechanics are top notch. Also, as others have said already, the polish on this app is possibly the best of anything available in the iphone. This game is one that is relatively easy to pick up for a newbie but it has ALOT of strategy.
How is the single player experience? I have heard mixed things about it. Is there online multiplayer or only local?
It has fantastic online multiplayer. That's what this game is all about. The single player isn't bad, though, indeed pretty decent. But the real fun comes with playing real folks online. The only problem with online is that the random opponent version is limited to 2 players, and the friends version, which is not limited, requires exchange of email addresses. This is easily worked around by creating a new email address on gmail or wherever, just for gaming. The random opponent online is timed, the friend online is not, and works like Words with Friends. So you don't all have to be online at the same time, though you could be. Question: is the new update going to have anything for the iPhone, or is just adding iPad native support?
Dose anybody know whether the asynchronous multiplayer games with friends can be carried over from device to device? My preferred gaming device is the iPad, so I play on that whenever possible, but I'd love to be able to continue playing the same game while at work on my iPhone. Is that possible?
Your multiplayer account isnt tied to your device, just the email you registered with. You shouldn't have any problem syncing up your online games. The only issue I can think of would be if you start on an iPad, play several rounds on an iPhone then go back to the iPad. The iPad might have difficulties if it's trying to pull each of the past moves individually. If that happens you should be able to remove your account from that device then add it back. Doing so should force it to pull the newest data only. Let me know how it turns out!
9.99 ??? I was ready to buy at 4.99 because my family loves this game. so I go to buy it and got a not so welcome surprise it's 9.99 now! I was floored! My iPod touch 3g doesn't need all these new upgrades. From the reviews the game was great the way it was. I'm sorry this is a no buy for me on my iPod touch. I guess I'll wait for it to go back to 4.99. Until then no it's a no buy.
+1 and if Godzilla read T.A. properly he would have had ample heads up too. He's really blaming himself for being a little slow on the uptake.
Moaning It doesn't matter when I'm moaning, what matters is the fact that I decided to buy at all and the price was higher than I thought it should be. I don't need all the new frills for a touch. They should have broke it in two different products IMO. The fact that it happened the same day they change the price doesn't matter. I'm sure I'm not the only one not buying today.
WHAT!? So I need to buy the iphone version Buy all the expansions that will be releasing then Buy a SEPARATE ipad version Buy all the expansions again (because DLC doesn't transfer between games) All because you are mad that the price was raised 5 bucks even though the developer gave notice several months ago AND the two TA articles made mention that you should get it now???? You're paying 10 bucks for the BEST boardgame on iOS and it's still over 50% off the price of the box set.
They have been telling us for 6 months now that the price will go up. So you can't blame anyone but yourself for not getting it before then! WHAT HE SAID UP ABOVE ME!
I agree with him. $9.99 is really pushing it, especially since you can buy the board game for $5 more. I also couldn't care less about the updates. Played fine as it was. Since I already bought the game at 4.99 and consider myself a very casual player of this game, who only dropped $5 out of curiosity, there is no way I would drop $10 on this unless I was an absolute rabid fan. They WILL lose a lot of potential customers, like me, who had never played the board game, but were curious enough to pay $5 for it to try it out on the iphone. Let's face it; even 4.99 is already beyond what most are willing to spend on any game, let alone one that is easily available and cheap from an online board game store. If it was 'battlelore' that we were talking about here, which would cost you a $100 to play as an actual board game, then 4.99, and even 9.99, would be a steal to buy as an iphone version. There should be a cheaper version available for those who don't want the upgrades and are happy with the way it was. If the 9.99 included expansions, maybe it would be worth it for some people.
Damn...Damn! Heard about this one yesterday and was ready to pull the trigger today but not for $10. I figured Apple would take at least a week to approve the update. That sucks...oh well, guess I'll wait for the sale
Where can you buy the real game for $15? The best I've seen was a sale at amazon the other day for $20 shipped. I don't think I've seen it any cheaper then that. $10 for the iOS version is less then half the cost. It's still a bargain. It's not as good a bargain as when it was $5, but it's still a bargain. And the game is absolutely worth $10.
