I've been reading their twitter feed recently, and they mentioned that they are going to add game center support in the future, so this should eliminate the clunky multiplayer setup process. I can't wait - I'm getting tired of schooling the AI.
If you've actually been holding off trying it on the iPad, go ahead. It isn't universal, but in 2x mode with the zoom features built in, it already works remarkably well. I wish all non-Universal board game apps would pay attention to what they did and implement similar scaling features. They make the app better both on the iPhone/iPod and iPad.
I'm starting really not to like the non-live approach to online games. I mean it's OK, but I find it incredibly easy to get burnt out quickly, and yet none of the games ever feel even nearly as fun as a live game. People don't interact as much as there's a disconnect that occurs. At least for me. Games I've played live with friends, they are always way more fun. With that in mind, would anyone here be interested in setting up online games to play live? I mean we'd pick a time and then all be online then and play the game from start to finish in one sitting. I'd be up for this kind of play in other games too. I have Reiner Knizia's Samurai as well and would love to play some online live games there as well (and not against random strangers). I know there's the email issue in Carcassonne, that you may not be willing to share your email address, but this is solvable by creating a new email address for these online games. I have cagDOTcrunchewyATgmailDOTcom. I'd still suggest obscuring your game address like that anyway to avoid getting spam. Anyway, go to gmail and make a new address. Or to yahoo or whatever. Make one just for games. Anyway, post here if you're interested. I'm in the US on Eastern Time. Probably would only be available on weekdays in the evening. A little more flexible on weekends.
That's what quick play is for? You say you don't want to play against strangers, but aren't we strangers?
Some of us are stranger than most... But I prefer playing TA and BGG players. Once we finish a game we start up another immediately, play when we can, there's even a little trash talk if someone makes a good play. Much more fun than a quick play session with a random I invited you on Carcassonne crunc
Sure, you're strangers, but quick play strangers are often completely silent and there's no option to start another game once one is over anyway, at least not easily. So yes, you're strangers, but I know where you are (online.) Also, you can't play a 3, 4 or 5 player game via quick play. I want to set up such games for play in a single session. EDIT: and last but not least, I don't want there to be a time limit on turns. If it takes 2 minutes to make your move that's fine... expect some trash talking if you take that long. I want it to be a friendly, fun atmosphere. Heck, I play games on the xbox and people set up games with 30 second time limits and it just isn't any fun that way IMHO. I think they are just out to bump their rank up, and setting such a short time limit plays into their hands. I just want to have fun playing online, just like one might have with friends in the same room playing the real game. And on that note, when playing with friends in the same room, nobody goes out for 16 hours and then comes back to take their turn!!
If you think you might be on tonight, I'll join the game then. I should be able to join in around 9 PM eastern.
Try buying the board game. I did and I got my friends into it. Playig online is great for my friends that have iPhones. And I've met some ccool ppl from Europe. Other than the email to initiate online games I'd say the multiplayer is spot on for this game.
Yeah - I have board game, and I love it, but I can't get my friends together to play it every week, let alone multiple times a week. I'd like to set up online games with folks that want to play live. 2, 3, 4 or 5 players.
VeganTnT and I played a "live" game last night and it was how it should be. But I want to set up a 3, 4 or 5 player live game. Meaning, in case it's not obvious, playing it in one session with everyone on at the same time. Anyone interested? I won't have time tonight, but Thursday night would work. Again, I'm on eastern time (GMT -5 I think?) Usually I'm available around 9 PM and could play any time from then until 11 PM or so. A live game only takes half an hour or so....
Could someone please link to a quick reference card / manual type document? So I can read more about the rules and decide whether to get it. Also as someone who hasn't played either, what are the differences between this and Neuroshima Hex? They both look polished.
They are both very different games. In Carcassonne you lay tiles to build features such as roads or cities and collect points for doing so. In Neuroshima Hex you each have a base and the goal is to inflict more damage to the enemies base. You lay tiles strategicly to damage the other players base and there are unit tiles you can lay and other tiles that help boost them and other special tiles. To start a battle you need to play a battle tile or fill the board up completely. Probably not the best comparison but I need to get back to work.
Just bought both! Sick of most 99 cent games having not much depth. I have a number of great $2-3 ones but they form most of my collection and want something a bit more involved!
Not universal yet? I suspect that since you can play in 2x mode on iPad with little loss of resolution, the devs, who obviously know this, are taking time to refine some other elements of the game, postponing the universal update, but this is only my personal opinion.
The devs said specifically that Universal was coming first and the price is going to 9.99 before the packs come. But it's also possible they are updating the core game to keep it bug free and working on the iphone and ipad specific ui and art for the expansions to have one giant 2.0 update
