Ive been thinking about getting captain america film for some time now. I never got to see it at the cinema! boohoo, but I keep looking and looking but never buying because the reviews are so mixed. SO without giving spoilers is it a good film? Should i buy it off iTunes or save the money and get it 50%+ cheaper when it pops up in the local video stores...
I say go cheaper because this had mixed reviews unless you wanna see all the avenger films then go for it.
I would wait, i've heard its not very good, dont always agree with some film review sites but most seem to say its very average. It wasnt a huge blockbuster like the X-Men films, save your money
Saw it and thought it was pretty cheesy. After the "Heil Hydra!" (if you've seen the movie you'll know what I'm talkign about) scene complete with the salute I decided it was a waste of time. If you must see it don't waste $$ on iTunes! Go to your local library and see if they have it.
I saw it in theaters and I wish I hadn't. I felt like I wasted my money. I agree with what JBRUU posted too.
Whoa, I'm surprised at seeing all these negative opinions on this thread. I personally thought Captain America was a great film, one of my favorites from the Marvel Films.
I agree. What people are calling "cheesy" is really a retro-style that is very much in the spirit of the character (and the WW2 setting). Chris Evans is great in the role, and the acting is overall excellent. It just isn't "dark" and serious like the recent Batman films, but as much as I like those I thought the lighter tone (without being campy) was a big plus. BTW, the movie has a 79% rating in Rotten Tomatoes, which is great. The general reception was very positive. Definitely one of my favorite superhero movies.
Watch the movie and decide for yourself, but just go to your local library and check it out there for free or sometimes a minimal fee like 50 cents.
wow free / 25-30p... Wish we had libraries as good as that. British libraries are a joke, more books in waterstones. Yet the government wants to spend less money on libraries, there's just no point going to one over here.
Oh well that's a shame. I live really close to a massive library so I'm pretty fortunate to have a good selection of books and movies. Well if you have any video rental places near you I'd check those out. iTunes is just ridiculously expensive even compared to those and the DRM means you can only watch on your computer/device, not you big TV (unless you have an Apple TV I think). The first movie I've ever bought on iTunes was True Grit. And if was my last. Great movie though.
DRM? wow... ok im going to the local shops, you are right though itunes films are overpriced, even above and beyond the RRP over here but they get away with it because of the effort needed to track down whats on offer elsewhere.
Wow, I thought you were talking about one of the ios games. The movie? Yeah, it's decent, not the best, but it is good, definitely worth watching. Sorry can't be of more help, don't really know what more to say, except for this: Is this worth my buck???
THANK YOU! I totally agree, and I was starting to think I was all alone on these forums as a big fan of the film.
If you like CA you should also check out The Rocketeer, which is by the same director and also based on a (much lesser known) comic book character.
I don't have anything against the movie, and I certainly am not against lighthearted/nonserious superhero movies (The original Spider-Man being very close to my heart), but this just wasn't my style. That's all I meant by cheesy.
I love the first Spider-Man to bits, but it's another movie that some people call "cheesy" because it's highly stylized. Obviously, if the style doesn't click with you, you are not going to enjoy the movie. To anyone who knows and love the original Joe Simon and Jack Kirby comic books, it was a treat.
I actually quite liked it. It's a pretty earnest film but not overly so. I still prefer Cap's costume in that movie than the Halloween costume he had in Avengers.
Doesn't Netflix have this now? I could swear they advertised this movie on their most recent commercial.
