Prices have been... massaged a bit as an experiment. Not sure how long it will last. At least through Monday.

Also I think you're about to beat me Vic :)

Did anyone noticed that tapping on any word in match's history brings up dictionary with detailed description? What a nice feature!

Honestly, I'm not sure I want infinite lives for my sake of mind lol. I'll think about it.
2 AM, kiddo wakes up in 5 hours, need to stop and go to sleeeeeeep NOW!
@eeen : we'll see, you're a difficult player to corner lol. I got your brother in a difficult position too but can't seem to be able to finish both games ;)

Lovely game! Please add the possibility to chat with or opponent during the game, that would be so lovely!

The price drop was too tempting. Long time supporter of NimbleBit and this game is just so addicting. Customization and infinite lives purchased.

Yeah it uses Game Center. There is a Facebook sign in but I can't figure out what for atm as there is no multiplayer for it. Maybe it's just for your profile, but you can't invite you FB friends to matches.

Just so I'm understanding this right, for $4.99 you only get an increased life cap from 3 to 5 but you will still have to deal with timers. And for $9.99 you actually get the full game... wait, I guess you need $10.99 if you want everything the game has to offer. I'm all for premium gaming but I'm having a hard time seeing how an async game that does not even feature turn/game timers, chat or even emotes is worth $10.99. And apparently that used to be even more before an experimental price drop? Also, why are lives not refunded when a game dies due to server error?

Oh, I completely forgot there's a 99c "refill lives" iAP as well... 3/5 hours of waiting for 99c. I don't play timer based freemium games but is that the usual rate for such things?

It's actually $11.99 (right now) for a full premium experience and is totally, totally worth it.

That said...look, you seriously don't need to spend a single buck to enjoy the game completely. It's exactly like Trivia Crack in that regard. Yes, you only have 3 lives, but the way the game works, there's a chance you'll have 20 games running at the same time. This is freemium done right. Oh, and that $0.99 "refill lives" thing is standard, but if you're refilling lives...well, you're an idiot.

As for the lack of features? Well, it's right there somewhere above your post. Chat is coming, which means emotes are automatically in. I don't know why you're so worked up over an initial release version.

My three lives exhaust in about 5 minutes every time, most games last about 3-5 rounds. But I guess there's always the possibility of people just not taking their turns when they are about to lose, since Nimblebit is not interested in the kind of timers an async game really needs. And again, $10.99 for a barebones async word game wouldn't fly even on Steam, even as early access. If they are committed to adding more features those could easily have been rolled into further iAPs and the "infinite lives" iAP could be a season pass. In its current state I have no idea how it's "worth it" other than that anything can be worth it on a personal preference level, but there has to be some objectivity about it as well.

Haha I just saw that the infinite lives iAP was $25 at launch. Nimblebit believed (maybe still believes, bar experimentation) Capitals is worth more than Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, Invisible Inc, Don't Starve and just barely less than Cities: Skylines.

Do you know what's on NimbleBit's agenda? Can we please avoid speaking for the developer? I think it's more than common sense that a timer will come (if there's not one already) eventually. It's absurd to think that we'll have to forever stare at inactive games, but then again the game's hardly been out for what...a week? Two? Maybe there's a 2 week expiry date on games that are not being played. Unless I'm an idiot and it's somewhere in this thread, how do we know know that's not the case?

Other than the fact that the "barebones" game itself is bloody fantastic (and there's a 5 star review from none other than Carter "3.5" Dotson [hey buddy! ;)] on the TouchArcade front-page to back that up), $11.99 for something that previously cost $30 is worth it. Whether or not you think the game was worth the previous $30 premium price is up to you, but infinite lives cost $25 in Trivia Crack, so why shouldn't they here? As for the barebones features, it's already been established multiple times that a chat feature is coming, and honestly...that's the only thing that's missing (other than the timer, of course)...but I personally don't think an entire fully-functioning dictionary feature is barebones and neither are the dozens upon dozens (I haven't counted them...sue me) of icon configurations.

    To each his own, though.

Turn/game timers are essential in async games, launching without those pretty much speaks for itself.

 I guess I'm not interested in subsidizing a game for the free users. I'm just trying to establish the value of this product as a one-time payment model and it ends up as an absurd price when compared to full scale PC games, not even mobile counterparts.

Edit: You can't even view your opponent's W/L record...

Dude, the thing you're forgetting is that none of the IAPs here are even necessary. The game is a complete experience without even spending a single dollar. There are no upgradeable things with timers to speed up, no paywalls (techincally...I'll get to that in a second), nothing. Hell, there are no ads in the bloody game either. It's a complete free experience and I'm positive none of us here are spending $10 on infinite lives because we feel the need to. Think about it, whether you pay nothing or $10, you still have to wait for someone to play back. It's the very same experience and the only thing that says we're not idiots for spending $10 on something that's borderline useless is because we're supporting NimbleBit...an already established developer that we want to support.

As for the icons locked behind a paywall: Do you need them? Of course not. Do they change the gameplay in any way, shape or form? Of course not! Would you like to have the feature of being able to customize your icon? Sure, go ahead and pay $2.99/$4.99 for unlimited access. It's just something nifty to own as a way to...yet again, support the developer. Plus, the last time I checked, no one was complaining about each individual skin in Disc Drivin' being a dollar. How many or them are there? Certainly less than those featured in Capitals, yet buying every single one of them would cost more than quadruple the price of every single one of them in Capitals. Why did no one complain? Because...all of that shit was completely unnecessary.

Yet, you can view your opponent's Win/Loss record in relation to you. Which, arguably, is all that matters.

I've already said it before, but this is still the initial release version and the game has nothing but the space to grow...but by the look of things, you're trying to find an issue with every single thing in the game. Instead of bitching about it, why not try and point out these things to NimbleBit in a friendly, constructive manner so they take your ideas on board? Ultimately, if you don't like what's being offered, you can just do the easiest thing and delete the game and stop visiting this thread. No one's forcing you to like anything and I'm frankly sick of looking like I'm trying to defend something that doesn't need defending, just because someone's nitpicking.

I guess you're going to ignore the parts where I said that the lives that recharge over 3 to 5 hours can generally be exhausted in 5-10 minutes, and that I'm trying to figure out what the one-time payment value for this game is if I'm interested in pulling out the game at any point in time to my own convenience and playing as many games as I want. I'm not interested in the free value of this game at all.

And really, almost all of my arguments till now have dealt with the infinite lives iAP. I only mentioned the cosmetic iAP once, just to list it among the iAPs on sale.

I would like to know what kind of random opponent the game auto-matched for me.

That's definitely what it's going to come to eventually, I'm still trying to give the game a shot. If they add the core mechanics that are required for a multiplayer only async game I'll definitely revisit it at that point. Given that they also figure out an infinite lives price that matches the features and content on offer, and not just as a subsidization for the free players.

Games auto-foreit after a week of in-activity. This is tunable sever-side, and might get shortened a little bit but this is still a casual game and I don't see there being an official "timed" mode. I'd like to keep the game simple and approachable with a single game mode.

Elo ranking system is already being tracked on the servers and we're hoping to make that player visible in the next update or two, with emote communication between players coming after that.

Thanks for your interest in the game, but inevitably what we think the game is worth won't find agreed upon by everyone in the world.

Edit: If your games are running that short I suggest you add some friends that are more experienced, maybe from this thread.

Well, I've spent the better part of this holiday weekend playing this game :) I'm absolutely addicted!

I'm seriously considering the $9.99 infinite lives upgrade. I'm hoping that if ads ever become necessary, folks who have already invested in the game remain ad-free.
