If someone waits 7 days to take a turn they forfeit the game. Forfeits do not count as a win or a loss. We are considering forfeits after a certain round affecting the ranking system we're currently working on though.

Sounds great you're considering that change. It'd be only fair to win after certain number of rounds if the opponent stops playing on purpose. I hope you're bringing this in the next update. I'd appreciate it.

Btw, what's wrong with that Rolling Thunder achievement? Why do we have a hard time to accomplish it even though we met the requirements? 8 consecutive wins with unique opponents and it's still locked.

I think it's unfair that a fofeit ain't a win or loss. If you fofeit you give up so lose and the other wins....... That's how it should be and how it is when you forfeit in anything else

Haha I actually just used that beat somebody. He was down to one tile and I LITERALLY could not find any other word as I had filled up nearly the whole board, and then I remembered the old Scrabble standby!

Idk. What about ppl who are obviously cheating? I just had an opponent play 'blowhole' (okay, fair enough) for his first turn and 'autacoid' (come on now!) for his second within thirty seconds. I'm not saying seasoned word game vets couldn't know those words; maybe they're a marine biologist for all I know! All I know is that I backed out as soon as I saw the banner saying AUTACOID

The 8 wins thing unlocked for me after about 20 wins in a row. Think it may have coincided with my first run of eight wins against unique opponents or my first run of eight wins which didn't include a Game Center friend.

Looks like that streak might be coming to an end though. I took a gamble leaving a long route to my capital against Pedroapan and he responded with PITIFULLY then REBUKED! I'm still alive, but barely.

Fair enough but I don't think it's fair for someone who knows they are losing fairly to just quit on you and you get nothing for it.

Just played REVOLUTIONARY (13) and didn't get the 12 letter word achievement. Harsh but fair!

    Should've stuck with EVOLUTIONARY. :)

Agreed. I'm sure we all have several games sitting open where we know we've got the opponent beat and they're just refusing to play their turn. Not only do they clutter up the open game screen but they're a turn away from adding to your win rate.

The forfeit issue is a tricky point, to be sure. I like the idea the developer guy posited above about it affecting the result if done after a certain point in the game.

Ok. Let's talk about cheaters for a minute and how to deal with them. I had a very similar experience. My opponent was playing very long and obscure words in under a minute. She was clearly using a "words with cheaters" type of website. My initial reaction was to concede the game. But then I thought "No. I'm going to see this through and try to win."

Capitols is more than just a word game. It's also a conquest game. While my opponent continued to play the longest word possible, I played the smartest word possible. I beat the damn cheater on round six and boy did it feel good.

    Which leads me to this...

The Internet is a hive of scum and villainy the likes of which cannot be found in any other place in the universe. As soon as all the d'bags out there realize that abandoning a game will not count against them, then they will simply never finish a game in which they about to lose. A week is a very long time to give someone to make a play. It seems to me that the only logical and fair thing to do is to give the victory to the person who most recently played. A real victory.

This is a different type of cheating, but it is definitely cheating. The scumbags of the Internet will take advantage of this exploit as soon as they discover it. If you care about the integrity of your game, you simply must fix this.

BTW, I totally love playing Capitols. It has the potential to be even better than Letterpress.

I think this is unfair, iam doing pretty well so far 25 games, only 2 losses, but have 12 games pending, just because the guys / girls dont wanna lose, if they dont play on 7 days it must be a loss, either they dont want a lose on their count or they just left the game, so you must put a win to the people actually playing the game.

My favorite finishing words, wrecked, win, anus, dildo. Lol

Btw awesome game, people often think of it as a word game and try to come up with fancy words which i dont know (non native english speaker) but my long experience with strategy games is what is making me do kinda well. Congratz on a good game.

The best way to avoid such a behaviour is to play with GameCenter friends only. I didn't play many games yet, 30+, but I didn't experience any cheaters so far. Or I didn't recognize them. Nevertheless, what's the point? Why would anyone cheat at all? It's just a game. There are no leaderboards to compete in or stats to compare. It's clearly made to have fun with, so why would anyone try to ruin it for themselfs? If I'd have to look up for words any other way than by my mind, I shouldn't play such game in the first place, right? It just seems strange to me for anyone to cheat, especially in this particular game.

I'm with you there. Let's hope people considering cheating realise that before doing it.

Small tip, not sure everyone realized that : your new game is considered started even if you don't play the first word. The lives counter goes down and the game appears in your list.
So, let's say your baby wakes you up at 4 AM, you're too sleepy to think, but you can still use those 3 or 5 lives to start games. And play them later ;)

I'm at 29 open games with my 3 lives, because I am not able to play regularly during the day.
So really don't get put off by the 3 lives rule. It's way more generous to have an unlimited number of games played at the same time.

I'll also concur on a Hearthstone type of chat with a few choices like "well played", "got you" "impressive" "dammit dude" "sweet"... :D

And just for fun, it would be nice to be able to play the name of your opponent like this one with Nalazoo (hi ;))

Hey eeenmachine, love the game. I think it's great. One little comment that I thought would have been neat to include.

So in the customization screen you have TONS of icons... Like it really is amazing. As I was scrolling through them I was like shit, I kind of never feel like I'll be interested or motivated to shift these around and use different ones, essentially because they're all created equally and you have access to them all as long as you paid the $2.99.
And because of the pay model you probably can't change it.

But what if they were treated like achievements or unlockables.
    Some ideas for unlocking them:

    - Every time you win you can pick one

    - Certain icons are linked with specific words kind of like hidden achievements... If you play the word monkey, you get the monkey icon lol

    - To keep it somewhat monetized maybe allow people to also pay $1 and get 5 unlocks.

    - Have some icons be super rare and hard to get

    - Reward positive players, rewarding for paying 10, 25, 50 completed games without a forfeit

    - Icons are rewarded in tiers, for each time you play a word of a certain length (after a 10 letter word, get a icon with 10 on it, play your 5th ten letter word, get a more extravagant 10 icon with some embellishment).

So is this necessary? Nope. But I think it was a cool opportunity to add a sense of working towards something more than just a wins-loss record. I'll repeat though, I love your game, but I'd be interested to hear what you have to say about the icon system.

    Interesting ideas :)
They could have used icons as collectibles the way Crossy Road did. Actually in this regard, giving them all away is more generous.
But I agree the number of different icons is overwhelming at first lol.

I guess they know they have a loyal fan base that want to reward them for their good games.
Is it enough nowadays to sustain a game studio, not sure. They said they were experimenting, so they probably will adjust the way they handle all those things depending on the results.
