I'm surprised you're removing the customization IAP since I guessed that would have been 90% of your revenue. Not surprised about the low sales of the 5 lives, since when averaged out over a few days it does effectively nothing.
It would be nice if there were a way to blacklist an opponent who we suspect is cheating, so that I don't get matched up against them again, and I won't receive a direct invite from them. I don't expect this to extend to a policing system (e.g., 3 blacklists and you are out) or anything like that. I'm looking forward to the free customizations. I paid to customize, but I'm getting bored of seeing 95% of my opponents as blue castles. I also think it is weird that my two favorite Nimblebit games (and the two I've paid for) are your bottom two moneymakers.
Black listing prob ain't an option for a game like this because 1) people abuse the system 2) the person might just have a good vocabulary so punishing them is unfair and 3) someone has to review the reports.
I have to admit, I really like this game as well. I was an early customization purchaser. Are there no plans to give any benefit to those customers who bought in early as a way to support the game?
And purchasers of the customization? I paid the same for that as purchasers of the 5 Lives cap, and they get infinite lives now while I get ads?
Maybe ask for a refund from Apple fro your customization IAP and buy the 5 lives instead? Kinda DIY but in the end the result would be the same for NimbleBit and you'll feel better I think I'll do that as I would still support the game and even pay 2 more to NimbleBit, while getting sthg that won't be free for everyone. Seems fair for everyone ain't it?
I won't go down the refund route. That's not what it's there for and I think they deserve the cash for making a great game. I just find it odd that they had two $5 IAPs, both of which they are making redundant in the new version. Users who purchased one will get infinite lives to say thank you; the other set of users is ignored when they ask how they'll be affected.
I bought both at the original price but do not feel I'm owed anything as I have had my money's worth already. The infinite life upgrade is a nice gesture and much appreciated
I don't think he's asking for any one thing in particular. It's just odd that you're honoring one set of consumer choice to support your game with a consolation due to the changes. To the other group, you're offering nothing. And in a large way, your invalidating both consumer's purchases. I think the feeling for those that purchased the customization instead of the lives is that your approach doesn't seem very even-handed.
I guess it's dependent on what they paid for the customisation. I don't remember, but was the price before the price drop the same as 5 lives is now (after the drop)? If so, I can understand people feeling a bit let down if the bought it at 'full' price. On the other hand, I only paid 80p for it so I am not that bothered
Buying the IAP to expand lives which for most of the time was 5x the price of Customization seemed like it was worth an upgrade to infinite lives. There is no way for us to tell when a player purchased something or what price it was at the time unfortunately. I would be frustrated as a player too, but if we don't change things, with the performance the game has right now it is on the short list to be abandoned as we couldn't justify the time to continue improving it. Having your worst performing game incur the highest server costs isn't very smart!
It does seem unfair that folks who paid at one point the same price for customization get nothing while someone that bought the 5 lives get upgraded to infinity for free. Either way you got $5 of non-consumable IAP yet only knew set of supporters get some sort of compensation. Earlier in the thread you said you wouldn't show ads to anyone that purchased non-consumable IAP. While watching a video isn't a banner ad or anything, after 15 games, I would still need to see an ad to continue playing.
I agree that some people could view the changes as unfair. The hope is that way way more people enjoy the changes and the game grows an active user base so that you can still play the game months from now. If we could go back in time and re-launch we would, even it it meant giving up what little money the game has made so far.
Just an apology would be nice. I bought the customization at £2.99 because I enjoyed the game and because you said I'd never get ads in the game if I bought it. I'm sorry that Capitals is not making more money as it's a great game which deserves to. I hope that the changes do increase revenue and extend the game's life. But that doesn't mean that I don't feel let down after you've gone back on your promise.
#IAmNotAGameDeveloper - I question your logic as the changes you have made don't seem like they are going to attract new people to the game (it was already free to play, albeit perhaps to generous). At the same time you are slighting your early adopters (which sounds like there aren't that many which is unfortunate). I have been enjoying the game and got several friends to play via word of mouth and also bought the customization IAP to support you. However, I am not sure how many of those folks are going to continue to play if they have to watch an ad to keep playing. I don't envy your position for sure, and do hope the revamp helps your game succeed, but I will likely not continue playing once it goes to ad supported. I will also approach future games from you with a degree of caution given the major changes you have made to the game and purchase model so early in the games life.
I had to go back and review my receipts, just to make sure that I'm not confused. I paid $3 for the customization less than a month ago. What's sad is that from your responses, it barely feels appreciated. As someone who has previously enjoyed the game, I hope this ultimately gets you guys where you want to be. As a consumer, I'm more disappointed with your responses and the general disregard for those people that have supported the game up to this point than I am the actual choices being made. It definitely makes me wary of supporting your projects in the future.
