seeing ELO ratings at end of game?

I understand you don't want to always show ELO ratings, since strong players might immediately reject games against weaker players to keep from losing rating points, but what would you think of showing player ratings when the game is over? My record is currently 38-2 and I'm really curious about my rating! I used to play tournament chess, so I'm quite familiar with them and we've been throwing around the idea of implementing them for our game too once we support online play...

In any case, congrats on an awesome game!!

This new matchmaking system is ruining my stats. Today I've seen words I'd never even imagine nor use them in a game. I'm not sure if I was just unlucky to be matched with cheaters or they're that good. But I played games with good players that I know wouldn't cheat and their words didn't even close to what I'm getting today. I understand my disadvantage as ESL player, but how can I compete against words like "bivouac", "minuet" or "pimento" and all that just in one single game? Well, a few more games like this and there goes my 88% win rate stats..

If someone played those all in one be game I'd be suspicious - possibly using an online word finder. I have the same problem with Words with Friends, some people get desperate, can't accept they are unable to make a word themselves so constantly cheat.
    I just stop playing them

Just my 2cents, those words are very familiar to me and nothing that would cause me to think twice about them.

That being said, sometimes I will take a combination of letters and keep inputting different words hoping something sticks and occasionally it does. Is this considered cheating as I wasn't aware of the word beforehand?

Well, that's what I'm thinking about. I mean, why not to use "minute" instead of "minuet", right? It just seems strange.

Well, I do that as well sometimes. But what are the chances of that happening multiple times in one match, not to even mention the short one (like 7 rounds). But sure, everything's possible. I get it. I'm just saying it's really hard to compete against someone with such strong vocabulary. I played 50+ games and this is my first encounter with such phenomenon, so it makes me a bit suspicious, that's all. And as I wrote earlier, I played with strong players already, english native speakers, so yeah.

I'm beginning to understand those stats lol ;)
Glad to learn new words in English :D

I had difficulties with some letters combinations so I took a break and opened my French/English dictionary to look at some usable words I should think of.
K for example is easy if you remember all the KNsthg words or rake brake etc
J is hard I keep using joust major junior lol I should work on that.
    A Q without a U is almost impossible to use I guess.
Also I try a lot of words that are resembling French words hoping it will pass. sometimes it does I used "Fagot" (which means a pile of wood in French) and it worked, I hope my buddy superpenguin didn't take it badly :D

I wouldn't think of it, but I'm a non native speaker. and my English vocabulary comes mostly from TV series/movies and financial/tech/gaming/news sites. I tried to read books in English, but I find it unpleasant honestly.

I love this game - only issue being some of the words I've seen don't have any definitions in my in-built iPhone dictionary, but hey it's quite rare at the moment - if anyone wants to add me, my game centre tag is djshep1973 #

I work night shifts here in the UK, but if we're in the middle of a game and I take a while between turns, it might be because I'm working or sleeping lol #

I've had the same problem for years on WWF - I now only play the same friends on a daily basis, quite a few I stopped playing against as they didn't appear capable of finding a normal everyday word - every word played would be near impossible to come up with unless using a generator. You then have the very fine line of someone who does have a very good vocabulary and it's hard to tell if they are cheating or not!!!

We all get desperate at times and try and mash letters together if they look like they could be a word - it's the players that throw these amazing words out almost every turn they I have to question sometimes....

Brilliant game this - breath of fresh air, all my friends are enjoying it immensely.

Playable tiles only exist bordering colored ones. So holes can in fact appear if the shape of players' territories is just right.

With the new system pretty much everyone I come up against is using stupid words.

I'm playing one game where all I am able to do each turn is remove the letters around my capital. Everytime he plays a move is a stupid word that takes anything I gain. Opiate, Arcane, Exurbia, Marquis, Miaoued, GuitGuit, Inhumer. Like seriously!?!

Yeah, I've seen some crazy words from one match as well, Dawsonite? Upwaft? Hindquarter? Korunas? Diazole? Ganglia?

The only absolute way to avoid cheaters in a word game such as this is to build up a good list of friends that you trust. That being said there are lots of people who have been playing game like Scrabble / Words with Friends for decades and have quite the vocabulary, don't always assume they are cheating! :)
