First, the automatic installer thing did not work. So I downloaded a fresh install file off apple. It can't start something called iPod service. Help? Edit: Windows 7 home premium 64 bit, using 64 bit install version. Edit 2: Now this is the second time it said that iTunes needs quicktime to install. Edit 3: Quicktime wouldn't install, so I downloaded it separately, and it installed iTunes (and apparently quicktime) instead. Whatever, it works now. (I hope.) Edit 4: Closed out of working and scrolling-lag free itunes (awesome), and it disappeared from my computer. Gotta love this. Edit 5: iPod service broken message is back. Whoopie. Edit 6: Followed Apple's instruction page to install all traces of iTunes, and now I need sufficient privilege for Mobile Device (like iPod service). Edit 7: This is interesting. While the dumb iPod service and Mobile device still fail, by that time iTunes is usable, but I'm scared to sync with jailbroken iPod. Edit 8: turns out all I needed was to restart my computer. 9.2 working like a charm.
I had the same problem. I was able to successfully install when I right-clicked on the itunes install program and choose "run as administrator". Hope that helps!
Don't feel so bad. I only know that because I did the same damn thing once. "Bah. Rebooting is for wimps. No reason this shouldn't work just f--- CRAP."
