I find The Quest well-written actually. I guess it depends on where you start (Cursed Chess Set) and the type of writing style you like? The thousands of weapons actually show up on your character when you equip them, mind. (Oh, for those who hate the controls, just swap the screen view to portrait!)
I know that weapons show on your character in the Quest. Using them, however, provides no visceral feedback for me. I wouldn't mind that if I enjoyed reading through the yards of prose in the game, but I don't (it reads like fantasy fan-fiction to me, but I'm a tough critic when it comes to prose.). Again, I can see how someone would really enjoy The Quest. My point is that liking Aralon more doesn't mean that you have a superficial attachment for pretty graphics. In fact, I liked Aralon better than the Quest even before it got the CM makeover.
