Game Impressions I really enjoyed the game. Like the art style which looks Like for kid and girly, gameplay provide the same interesting also but not hard like League of Evil. Plus, I have the feeling of Mario while control the boy. This is really a good game with nice puzzle and very fast gameplay, you can easily enjoy it everywhere.
Soosiz used free music, you can see it from its credit so it's not abnormal if we hear its songs again somewhere else.
Not to defend myself but I have a few more input here: - Match-3: It's actually not all about the basic thing, using match-3 rule we have to clear more worms than we think that it's possible with only few cubes/candies to use. And if you go future than basic/tutorial level, you will find that there's more input into the match-3 mechanic and even powerups to solve the puzzle in another way (like bomber candy). - Platforming: It's not a complete hardcore game base on platforming element only, but if we want to solve all levels with all coins collected, we will see that it's not a basic platform game. A mix between match-3 & platforming: because cube/candy is already the obstacle and the platform, but ideally, it's destroyable. So how to use candy is almost the story of this game. But while making it, we have to admit that we won't make this game so hard, so everyone could easily enjoy it. But the coming update may satisfy more gamers like you.
I already invest lot of time to research on the control and it is a little bit bigger than kind of game like league of evil or storm in a tea cup which we think they're the best as them. But you may be don't need to worry too much and let try to free touch around the button as the touch area are even more bigger than the arrows and buttons.
hmm... even with all the negative comments here... I"m thinking this will be one of the better games I'll get this week... I keep watching the vid, and it keeps just getting me more and more and more excited about it. =oD
I want to agree with you but the more I read this the more I want to wait. I was stoked this morning but the more the day passes, the less enthused I seem to get. I need some of my notable fave posters to rave before I take the plunge I think.
yeah, that's actually probably a really good idea... Always so full of good ideas... =oP **edit** I need to learn to stop just buying everything on impulse... Tops2 had a good suggestion... Wait 2 or 3 weeks... and if you still want the game as bad as you did when you first saw it... buy it... but if it's something you don't want after 2 weeks or so... it probably isn't worth buying... =oP
I'm addicted by this game, gorgeous graphic, not so complicated gameplay!! Do you plane for more level pack? I'm at world 3 now and really wish to play it a lot more than I did today.
@BitBullTA: More levels are coming soon, we're working on them, and we're also looking for TA's feedback to improve Candy Boy as well. @crex: you will like it!
The game seems to be in the middle road where at heart it's a puzzle platformer like Cavorite and Karoshi, where Match-3 is the puzzle element. However it looks like there's light platforming elements that require good control over your player. While it doesn't necessarily arrant League of Evil level of control, at least something like Robot Wants Kitty and Elemental Rage. I say this because in the video I see a bunch of narrow platforms and conveyer belt action that usually require smooth controls to be enjoyable. You want it to be responsive and yet not running helter skelter into bottomless pits. I'll review it later tonight. Visuals do look awesome though, and I'm sure the puzzles will get fiendishly clever later on.
There's a game for PS1 (and later DS) called Lup Salad that also mixes platforming and match-three. In that game I think you only push blocks, no heavy lifting. toythatkills explained it on Neogaf: http://neogaf.net/forum/showthread.php?t=385371 Candy Boy looks a) original and b) fun - I'm not trying to take a swipe at it - just thought people might want to read up on the other thing.
I've played the first dozen levels and this is great fun. I like the mix of different elements, to me it's a fresh twist. There have been a few times already where I had to stop and wonder, how am I going to make this work. No problems with controls. Awesome job Anthony, very nice game!
Thank you CygnetSeven! We're working hard on it to have even more awesome update before the Xmas! Cheers, Antony
