      and I need the newest update for my ipod touch as well... will a gift card work for that?

      iTunes gift cards work just as though you are using a credit card with your iTunes account. You can purchase anything in iTunes with an iTunes card including the iPod Touch OS upgrades. I hope that answers you question.

      well I know a few months ago itunes gift cards didnt work for the games and software update in the canadian store... are you sure they work now? I dont want to buy one and not have it work

      You can't buy software updates or apps with Canadian iTunes cards, I live in Canada and it's a total pain in the ass.

      Yea it is... you figure they would allow you to.... it would stop some of the people using cracked apps

      +1, it's annoying getting an iTunes gift card and not being able to buy apps with it. :(

      Although it isn't Apple's decision; apparently Canada has some law that restricts Apple from allowing games/apps to be bought using a gift card.
