ont the iPad Perhaps this is what some of the other posts were referring to already, if so sorry for the droning... I have zero problems with the iPhone version, and never have (played on 3G and 4). However, I've noticed recently that the iPad version is much less responsive. I don't think it's the frame rate as the game itself never slows down for me. It just seems like there's this lag that almost makes it unplayable, like when you're trying to jump over a box then quickly jump to the next platform (as an example). Anyone else have this issue? Other games on my iPad aren't having this issue so I'm pretty sure it isn't my particular device.
Sorry. I have just been waiting for a very long time for this to got to 99 cents or free but it never has. I would love if freeappaday would make this free.
Sounds like the same problem. It's not typically easy to see it's the frame rate (unless you are very familiar with how the game ran before the update), but the lowered frame rate makes it seem pretty unresponsive. I was under the impression that the problem was limited to 3GS/3rd Gen iPod (from their twitter/etc), but maybe it's on the iPad as well.
I never played the game post-update on anything other than my iPhone 4 so I can't comment there. However there has been no change or me on the new device, for whatever that's worth. But yes, it has definitely affected the game on the iPad. I'd say, based on my subjective eye test, that there is around half a second or so difference between the time you tap the screen and the time homeboy jumps. I get what you're saying about the frame rate too. I guess I was incorrectly associating sluggish frame rate with suffering graphics, which I assume now is not the case. All in all it is something that I hope gets fixed regardless of the ultimate cause. This is one of my favorite games; it rocks on the iPad, but is borderline unplayable on it right now.
Not sure about playing your own music, but I'd hold off for a 3gs framerate fix and audio options fix. Seconded.
Double post with a two-week layoff. Anyway, I'm hoping that all the recent references to Canabalt re: new games that might share similarities--Monster Dash, Solipskier, Mirror's Edge, Gravity Runner, Cave Run, Dead Runner, etc.--will be a catalyst for an update to this game. The game is still choppy, and the audio options are still faulty, on my 3GS with iOS4. Canabalt remains unique among all the similar titles in terms of controlling the runner's speed with strategic box hits, rather than having the game automatically speed up as you advance. That's why I still want to play it and why it's disappointing that I can't enjoy it right now. Haven't heard back from semisecret about whether they will ever address these problems but I'm still hopeful.
Agreed. I really hope they fix it. Last email I got from Eric said they were going to port the Canabalt code over to the Gravity Hook HD codebase. However, from their twitter, it looks like they're concentrating on updates to that game. Which IMHO is really too bad. Gravity Hook HD is OK, but I kind of consider Canabalt to be a classic. I have a feeling lagging Gravity Hook HD sales might be convincing them to concentrate on getting that going for a while though.
Yeah, count me in as another person disappointed with Canabalt's performance on the 3GS with iOS 4. Doubly disappointed because I was one of the people who happily defended the rather controversial price point as being worth it for a really solid game, and then it turned out that the "premium" price (said mostly jokingly, but that's what people were calling it) still isn't enough to get us updates that make the game run correctly.
is this performance problem specific to iPhone 3G(s)? I just played a run on my iPhone 4 with 4.0.1. and could not notice any performance issues?! Still, I am not in love with the game. It is nice but never got my excited.
That's what I thought. However, I've heard people with other devices mentioning performance problems as well, so I thought it might be an iOS4 thing? I don't have any other devices to test that theory though. All I know for sure is I have a 3Gs, and it used to run silky smooth and be one of my favorite games, and after the update it runs with about 1/2 of the frame rate it used to, and I never play it any more. Pretty disappointing. Like Ravenlock mentioned, I too was a big supporter of their "premium" price (only in the app store can $2.99 be considered premium) and was happy with how they were supporting it (music track here, new obstacle there). I understand that their focus kind of has to be Gravity Hook HD at this point, but I really wish they could implement a quick patch for Canabalt to get it running properly again. I like Gravity Hook HD, but it's no replacement for Canabalt.
Canabalt is really wacky on my iPhone..the screen orientation is upside down except a few elements such as the menu buttons and online name. s'weird
Have any 3Gs owners played this since 4.1 came out? I was wondering if there is any improvement of the the choppy visuals. And if the audio options worked. Thanks in advance for any info.
