I have an exam tommorow and this game isn't letting me study BTW is the "For maximum awesome, headphones recommended" a typo?
Yeah, so you can now add me to "Crack-Balt". I've been watching this thread since it first came out, played the flash version and was instantly hooked. Like most people on here, i thought the $2.99 for a repetitive type game was too much. So i decided to add it to my BargainBin app, and wait till it went on sale. Then, i said to myself, i said "self, its only $3.00, 300 pennies, for crying out loud" Enjoying the game very much, hope the developers make a killing. Its the next Doodle Jump(imho), and that game hasn't left my iphone since march!
Yeah, people focus too much on cost relative to other apps. Sure, most 'simple' apps are free or $.99, making $3 seem a little much. But really, relative to a normal person's daily expenses it's nothing. About as much money as a gallon of gasoline, less than half the cost of a sandwhich for lunch, a few hours of street parking. $3 is not a lot to ask for a game this good. I've already played it more than many games I've bought at the same price or higher.
i agree if only to know how to pause the game i dont see a pause anywhere so just have to keep running thats ridiculous
I measure the game's worth by the time I play them. Considering this, games like Doodle Jump or now Canabalt would be premium apps! And with that experience, I would still buy them! Canabalt rocks!!
I was thinking.. all I do is run away but I always jump to my doom. How about I can run to safety - using colours that gently lighten in a pastel sort of way but then the bad guys start attacking from the right and I have to run the other way. Though from the scores elsewhere I'm some way off the sunshine..
Canabalt now is #83 in top paid apps, and #84 in top grossing apps. I guess not that many people outside of this thread found themselves enraged by the audacity of the developers charging the premium price of $2.99.
The real question is, will the game suddenly be "worth" more or less "shallow" to people if its in the top 10 paid apps?
just because britney spears was once a record selling beast does not mean i ever found her appropriately shallow music worth the price of admission. again, i do want to support the developer, but the complaints still stand. if you were one of those people that purchased the game thinking "well it's a bit more than i thought it would be, but it's worth it for this awesome game and to support the developer," you still get where we're coming from.
Kind of a strange metaphor, but if we follow it through then you are saying that there is a HUGE market for these kind of games at this price then damn, I hope you are right!
It is if you are talking about what the market is willing to pay. If you are talking about personal tastes, then that is entirely subjective and a matter of opinion, not fact.
given that i opened this conversation with an example of personal taste, it should be apparent that yes, we are discussing subjective worth.
