crank do you even own this game? The game is fun to me and many others its just not worth $3 because of the shallow gameplay. There are several $.99games in the store with way way more gameplay. Take my opinion for what it is and theirs too, buy the game and have your own thats all. I've already stated how I feel about it read back if you're so interested.

I intend to pick up the game, but my point is not really about this game. It just gets so tiring reading about what the price should be. It takes over so many threads. If the demand is too low, the price will probably be lowered soon enough .........maybe..........up to the developer. I just think that all these people woth iphones and ipod touches can't be that short of money to complain that much ..............it's just too much sometimes so I vent a little :)

As soon as it's compatible with 3.0 I'll buy. Really, if anything, that's just dumb. The price I can deal with. People gotta eat.

I'm not one of those people that complains about prices often, but occasionally I spot a game like this that I dont feel is worth the $3 compared to other ones that arent as shallow in gameplay that are only a buck. I just bought Super KO Boxing 2 for $5...love it, it should be $8-10 IMO.

I do get what you are saying and while pick up and play games that have polish to them are my favorite and I will most likely get this game, I would feel better about my purchase if they had a really slick global high score list (openfeint maybe or an equivalent with achievements) and added updates often with some new stuff !!

There I go complaining :) I get what you are saying though. Some more content would be nice and is hopefully coming very soon ! This game without global scoring is very disapointing to me since the only thing that matters is your score and it does get boring fast competing with yourself.

This is a huge hit waiting to happen with leaderboards and some game updates to seperate it from the flash version.................

In case the dev reads this post........please put in a global scoring system where you can see your rank at all times...this is a must to keep being motivated to play. I hate just seeing the top 10 or top 50 or even top 100. It's nice to see exactly where you rank.

Pretty cool game, I'm usually not a big fan of buying flash ports, but I decided to buy this one. I do think 3 bucks is too much though. To make it worth $3, I kinda wish it had more detail, like a larger variety of buildings, maybe some alien craft closer to the foreground, maybe one that follows behind you at some points destroying the building you're on as you run, stuff like that all purely for aesthetics and keeping the grayscale. Even though I already paid for it, I think it'd be awesome to see even more detail in the presentation while keeping the gameplay exactly the same. That'd make it worth $3 to me. :)

It's been stated numerous times that he had to publish under 3.1 for performance reasons. More games will come out every day requiring 3.1, something you will probably want to install eventually.

Adam has already said global high scores are coming and your existing local scores will migrate when the update is available.

It's funny.. The more I read about the complaints the more I want to buy the game, even though I don't agree with the $2.99 price tag. So I'll take a bite and support the devs.

    Great strategy though! ;) :p

EDIT: the game is great (not going to complain about the price..) but where's the menu to the scores? After which I died.. It would be nice if there's some kind of jetpack/rocket to fly through for a few seconds. This game reminds me a lot of the 2003 movie Hulk- where he jumps from one platform to another. Its ridiculously stupid, and funny of course.

My best so far is 2000 something...

The local scores are viewable off the main menu which you can only get to after the app is launched - kind of weird, I know.

There you go again, stamping your little feet and laying down the law based on an absurdly, obviously wrong premise.

People have as many "valid" reasons for not wanting to buy the game at the current price as they damn well like.

    1. No online highscores.

    2. No pause.

    3. Limited budget.

    4. Limited time.

    5. Not having 3.1.

    6. Feeling that three 99c games offer more variety and value.

    7. Attaching a different worth to something than YOU do.

I was wondering that the gameplay looks like Run! except Run! looks more beautiful, and has more obstacles for only 99 cents. So how come this is getting for attention? Is it because this has been a good flash game for some and it is selling itself from that?

    -Because its newer
-This one has more fluid and faster movement
-This one has cooler music and effects
(the awesome factor to the presentation of a game can win many over)

Run! has more to the gameplay and is obviously less expensive. Try the flash version if you havent already, youll see everything there is to see.

OK, so I've been playing this game for quite awhile now and I thought I'd chip in with my impressions.
And hey, guess what, I'm not gonna talk about the price!
As such this post will probably get lost in the ton of crap posts about the price and no-one will read it, but what the hey...
And don't get me wrong, the price of a game is a valid discussion point, but 37 pages (so far!) of the same ol' crap, being said over and over and over again...? C'mon, give it up guys...

    Aaaaaaaaaaanyway...

    THE CON'S:

    INSTRUCTIONS:
There's just no instructions for this game, neither in-game nor on App-Store. Now before you flame me and tell me how simple it is, yeah, I know that already, but that's coz I read about the game here and I played it online first. For the average Joe Schmoe, when they see the game in the App-Store, all they have to go on is the screenshots. There's nothing in the App-Store that says what the game is about or what you're supposed to do. That's really weird.
And if Joe doesn't know what the game is about, then is he going to buy it? Logic says no, but seeing as though the game is in fact doing pretty well, I'm kinda surprised that it's doing well.
Don't get me wrong, I'm pleasantly surprised. But I do think it's word-of-mouth on forums like these that are doing all the sales, rather than the Joes buying it.
And even if they take a gamble and download the game anyway, when they first launch it, and hit the "About" button to read about how to play the game maybe, they'd be pretty disappointed to find out it's more of a who & why than anything about playing the actual game.
So yeah, for the average Joe, it's gonna be an experimental process. And even then, it won't *ALL* be picked up in the first 10 seconds, as they still have to figure out that you end up running progressively faster if you don't hit the boxes and that you slow down if you do hit the boxes.
Also, they have to figure out whether or not the duration of your finger-press alters the duration of the guy's jump, or is a simple case of one-tap = equals one-jump, and the height of that jump is not alterable?
SOLUTION: Include simple instructions, both on the App-Store description, and in the game itself.

    SOUND CONTROLS:
I was all set to slam the game for not including any form of sound controls, to independently control the music and sound-fx separately, until someone pointed out that you CAN do this, but only from the iPhone's OS Settings menu, rather than in the game itself.
OK, so firstly I'm thankful that it is at least put somewhere that I can access it because I generally hate having music in my games, for several reasons: I generally don't like the music style, even if I do like the music style the repetitiveness grates after awhile, I prefer being able to hear the sound-fx clearly without the music covering them up, and although I'm not a fan of doing this myself, I know a lot of other people like to listen to their own MP3s over a game.
I do also like being able to slide the sound-fx down about halfway, while keeping my system sound up nice and high, so that the game isn't too loud while Im playing it right up close, but I can still hear my phone ring if it's in the other room. So kudos to the developer for this.
But now the question I have to ask is, why have the sound controls for this outside of the actual game? It makes no sense. Who on earth knows to look for it there? A couple of people, apparently, but I'd lay odds on the majority thinking this game had no sound controls because they're not included in the game.
And apart from the controls being easier to actually find in the first place if they're included in the game, they're also more intuitive to use if they're included in the game, for the simple reason that you can get instantaneous feedback: So as you slide the music slider down, you can hear how low the music track will be be, and as you slide the sound-fx slider down, you get the same thing.
Picture this real actual example: I wanted to keep the music track for this game (as it's kinda nice), but I wanted to have it really really low, so it wasn't too distracting. I also wanted to have the sound-fx nice and clear, but not too loud. So I went to the iPhone's OS Settings menu, made the adjustments that I thought would be good and then went back and re-launched game. No, still not right: The music was too low now and the sound-fx were still too loud. Short story: I had to re-launch the game 4 times before I was happy with the sound-balance, and that's kinda dumb.
SOLUTION: Put the sound controls in the game itself.

    MENU:
Bizarrely, the only options after playing a game are to either annoy people on Twitter about my score, or to re-play the game. Whilst I'm much more likely to do the latter, I would still like to see my scores on occasion. But I can't do that as there's option to go back to the main menu.
If I want to see my scores, I can only do so before playing my first game. If I want to see my scores after playing a game, I have to quit the game and re-launch it. There's no apparent reason why this needs to be the case.
SOLUTION: Put a "back to Menu" button on the Game Over screen.

    SCORES MENU:
Whilst it's already been mentioned in this thread by the developer himself that online scores will be coming, I would just like to say that as it stands, selling a game on promises of what will come should be considered a no-no.
We've all seen many cases of developers making promises and then not fulfilling them. I've been burned by this myself on a couple of occasions.
So whilst I'm not saying this developer will turn out to be one of these people, I will take the decision to ignore future-promises and judge a game solely on what is included in it in the right here and now.
So, with that being said, the scoreboards are lacking somewhat, as the novelty of competing against yourself quickly wears off.
And if the online scoreboards do come, I would just like to say that I am sure that I am just one of many people who would not only like to see the global top positions, but would also very much like to see where I personally stand in the leaderboard. If you only show the top 100 and I am in global position number 500, well then, the global leaderboards will mean nothing to me. If you can show me the top 100 and then also show me that I am in position no 500, then I will be much happier.
And I will be MUCH happier if you can add a buddy list of some sort, so I can pick and choose a handful of names to track and for that group to compete amongst ourselves. As it is on a few other games, I have to resort to emailing or texting my friends my latest scores and then they email or text back, and it's all just a bit of a pain.
Parachute Panic is a good example of game that has this buddy list. As well as checking out the top scores globally, I can see my position globally AND I can see my friends scores isolated from everyone else's. Now THAT is a scoreboard!
(I know the dev has mentioned that the scoring system he will be introducing in this game is the same as it is in his other game, but seeing as though I don't own his other game, this "information" actually means nothing to me whatsoever. A little elaboration would be appreciated.)

    BUGS?
I put a question-mark up there, because this part is debatable, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.
I've been playing this game a lot, and I've got a good feel for it, but I do still feel on occasion that it just isn't responsive enough - which is odd, considering the dev's claim that the reason the game is OS3.1 only is so that he could make use of some feature to make the game super-responsive (to paraphrase).
Occasionally, I tap but the guy only jumps a fraction of a second later, rather than instantaneously - and in a game like this, instantaneousness is vital. It doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen.
    And I'm running it on a 3GS.
The second "bug" is, on a couple of occasions, I have found myself running on one of the buildings that crumble, but oddly the whole building crumbles right down to the ground before the next building has even scrolled into view. So there's nothing for me to jump on to. I just watch myself helplessly crumble down to the ground.
As I said, this must've only happened a couple of times, out of the hundreds of games I've played so far, but it has happened.

    THE PRO'S:

    RANDOMNESS:
I love how this game's scenery is randomly generated. It could've been easy for the dev to just go ahead and have it pre-determined and pre-laid out, but it's not, and as such, there's no feeling of repetitiveness when starting the game over and over and over. Once that first building is over, then you never know what's coming next, and that keeps the game fresh, to a certain degree.
    Kudos here.

    FUN:
Put simply, the game is super-awesome fun. No need to say any more.

    CONCLUSION:
I've got a very very very long con's list here and a very short pro's list. But do the pro's outweigh the con's? Answer, yes.
The good here certainly cancels out the bad here, and whilst I don't see that as an excuse not to fix the bad parts, I do think the game is perfectly enjoyable in it's current form.
Especially when you consider that most of the con's I've mentioned here are not part of the actual gameplay, but form the other parts of the whole game package that go around the gameplay.

In summary, it's a good game, and I'm happy I bought it, but would be even happier to see it updated.

I've been playing this since it was mentioned on the homepage yesterday and I'm loving it. The atmosphere is fantastic and the simple gameplay really grabs me.

One thing I think I would have loved though - if it had been 99c. No, no, just a joke. No, what I would have loved is an actual planned level structure. While the random generation certainly keeps it interesting, it also prevents a certain feeling of progress. Whereas if the design was set, it would be a case of getting further and further each time until eventually you have the promise of an actual end point.

It's probably just me but the fact that you keep on playing time after time and die every time and know there's no real end point, well, that just disturbs me. Like it's reminding me of the total futility of life. That's not something I want to be reminded of when playing games.

I was a tad bit hesitant to purchase this when I saw 2.99 just b/c I was expecting it to be .99 but after my initial reaction wore off ( took roughly 3 seconds ) I purchased it and I am so glad I did. Canabalt is an instant classic for the iPhone/Touch and if you can't afford an app that costs $3 then you shouldn't own an iPhone or touch period.

I love the game, and maybe at some point it would be cool to see a few different game modes. Like, "Endurance", the current endless game with its randomness, and 2nd mode, with 100 predetermined levels that get increasingly harder

here's my reason - not having 3.1 because it disables tethering with my carrier :(
