Tried the web version and it's awesome so I'm buying it at the current price. $3 people isn't a lot of money. Think about it..they weren't making money on the pc version so they decided to charge 3 beans for the ability to play it anywhere at anytime. Not a bad deal if you ask me. You always pay for portability. I think people are spoiled brats expecting everything to be free or $1. I got a psp go and a dsi and their mini games are $5 at the cheapest for goodness sake. I hope the dev sticks to his guns on this one. Just don't buy it if it's not worth it to you. I have to read thru so much crap just to find out impressions on the actual game. Gosh darnit.
I agree with this. I have no problem spending $3 on a game but it has to be worth it. Canabalt is great but $3 is just a bit much for what it is. I mean Zenonia is $3, alive4ever is .99...those are some titles I definitely consider worth it.
Thats it, the app store economics have become all about comparisons and competition. Had this game been released a year ago they could've charged $5 for it without anyone saying anything.
Of course not but that isn't the point. Canabalt, while fun, is just a game which offers a minute or so of gameplay each time..mindless fun..The App Store is filled with titles that offer this at $0.99. Compare Canabalt to other $2.99 titles..off the top of my head spider, zenonia are two.
Canabalt has high production values (much like the other two you mentioned) and everyone who has downloaded it has enjoyed it. Most developers tend to price their games too low, and I believe $2.99 is the right price for this title. Props to the developer for being gutsy and still making it into the top 100 in a day.
True, but I've only got about $6 to last me 6 days... I usually spend about three times that much so I'm being really picky, I need something that's gonna keep me busy.
Tim, did you buy the game or get a build of it free like most game website representative/ owners do?
I actually bought this, as I couldn't find a way to contact the developers. But yes, I do get the majority of my games for free.
Pricing is purely dependent on what the game is worth TO YOU I love zenonia but I'm pretty busy and I don't have the time to invest in long play sessions. I'd happily pay 5 bucks for games like Mr. AahH!!, Orbital, Canabalt, iTubes, and Meteor Blitz because they offer things that lengthy games like zenonia can't. When I'm standing in line at the bank, waiting for a waiter to bring my food, or just have a minute to kill I want a game that I can jump into with little to no load time, play, ENJOY, and have play sessions short enough where I can put it down when I have things to do (or get a call/text/email)
Been playing the flash version, but not getting too far. Have a question, does the scenery change when you get further in the game, or is it always buildings? Thanks
You know, there seems to be a lot of hypocrites in this thread. I have seen many of the people complaining about the price of this game get upset with others for complaining about other games.
I woke up this morning and this thread has balooned to over 300 posts still arguing about the price. I just hope that all this talk generates enough publicity for the dev and in turn generates more sales. Both sides are presenting the same arguments over and over again. Perhaps its time to close this thread and open another one with strict rule to talk only about the game itself. Don't get me wrong, I am all for freedom of speech, but out of more than 300 posts maximum 20 actually talked about the game itself. Perhaps this thread can be renamed and moved to General Discussion and a new one discussing the game opened. Regardless of what your argument is, you have to admit that its reduculous to have discussion solely about the price. So far people who actually played the game have complimented the game's Addictiveness high production values speed responsiveness sounds and music while critisising exclusive 3.1.1 compatibility limited features Now discuss while I generate an aura of invicibility around myself and wait for flack...
Depends on the game... if someone were complaining about spending $2.99 on... Final Fantasy XIII on the PS3, I'd tell 'em to shove it
haha, point taken. But the game is also free online which makes it incredibly hard for the dev to recoup the cost of development since you don't actually have to pay anything in order to enjoy their game Jason Rohrer took the same approach with the game Primrose. You head over to his website and you can download the game FREE for mac, windows, or linux. You get all the updates, 100% functionality, but don't have to pay a cent. Now if you want that same game on your iDevice you'll have to pay 2.99 as an iDevice tax. It costs money to be a dev on the appstore and it takes time and energy to port these games to the platform and continue to debug as new updates and firmwares are released. You can play canabalt free till the end of time on the website. There are enough of use that appreciate the kind of game this is, and will happily support the dev because we've played it online and know that this game was built for us.
When will devs learn that they can't charge what their title is worth? They can only charge what irate/cheap gamers are willing to pay for them!
