People keep saying that you can't turn the music off, or leave the music off but have the sound effects on. Am I the only one with this in my iPhone settings:
@eeenmachine, nattylux have you guys considered adding two to three more dollars to your games, raising the price? I'm not being mean but it seems like you guys have alot of support for the developers of this game and seems to like the price at $2.99, then maybe you guys should raise the price of your games too. Again, I love your games and purchased all at really good deals.. Awesome looking game? Of course! The game was fun to play on computer. But too high for price point. I have to care about my budget too, I have to check for decent games with good deals. I might buy this at the end of the day, this could be the exception.
bought this game and think it is really good, about the price, i have no comment yet... THOUGH I AM ASKING IF ANYONE HERE KNOWS FOR A FACT THAT THERE WILL BE UPDATES,it is a very good game but if 6 months pass and there is no update i am going to be a tad bit annoyed. Something maybe like aliens start to chase after you for a short amount of time and you have to outrun them by not hitting into anything and maintaining your pace? other than that great game.
true, if you take away the awesome music, atmospheric sound effects, tons of visual animation, cool art style, and high FPS fluid gameplay, it is a pretty generic game
I'd actually vote for that. If other devs raised to $1.99 and Canabalt lowered to $1.99 I'd say it was a fair price all round.
am I supposed to be watching a 1 minute segment of John Woo running and jumping on repeat or getting more involved into the gameplay? I think I'd rather be getting more "involved" in the gameplay. The only thing the player does is tap. Thats it.
ok then let me rephrase it. The only thing the player does is tap(to Jump only) NOTHING ELSE.No other controls at all, No powerups in the game, you just jump
Which I think is a perfect fit for an iPhone game, simple controls - quick play sessions - and visually / aurally stimulating. I will definitely play this game more than dungeon hunter or something like that.
Our games are priced as follows: Scoops - $1.99 Sky Burger - $1.99 Textropolis - $1.99 Moon Drop - $1.99
The App Store is a one year old market, and we're all stumbling around and trying to figure it out, I think. We've experimented with price for all our apps except for Harbor Master. So all our games are $1.99, while Harbor Master is still 99c. We will probably raise the price soon on that as well. The reason we haven't is, well, fear. HM has done amazingly well at 99c, and we're afraid to ruin a good thing. By the way, I generally think the low price points are good for indie developers, because if we get lucky, we actually can make a profit at 99c - while EA can't. However, we'd all love to raise the price if the market can bear it. Which is why I'm definitely rooting for Canabalt to succeed.
fine I know your friends with the dev and all, Ill give you this much, the game is fun but its just too shallow and nothing innovative. If they sold the soudtrack on itunes I wouldve bought that instead and stuck with Run! or Hurdler at cheaper prices.
the fun part is my only criteria for what makes a game good, we just have different standards I guess!
well until I see the updates(if there is gonna be any) in my opinion its not worth the $3 compared to other iphone games that are even $.99. For a game thats supposed to be an action game all you do is tap to jump for $2.99...... common, they can do better than that. The $.99 games did, maybe I'd be more forgiving about it all if the dev just put in the description that he's selling this game for $3 for the cool presentation and music, but not for the shallow gameplay.
I just got back from work (which is why i'm responding to Mr. All-Knowing here so late), and whadaya know? Yet another high and mighty, petty response. Let me clear this up. A. I wasn't trying to ignore your post as much as I was trying to put an end to a discussion that was going nowhere. I was willing to agree to disagree. That's why I responded with "Says You". I guess since you're so convinced that you're right, and since you obviously have to have the last word, there's no way you could've just let the discussion end there. B. I gave you my evidence in my other post, but since you're all knowing and you see things so clearly, it wouldn't have mattered what I wrote because it was going to be wrong no matter what. BTW, since we're on the subject, where's YOUR evidence that your views on this matter are correct. I didn't see that you wrote anything but your own opinions on the subject, with absolutely nothing to back them up but more opinions. C. I NEVER said anyone was lying about their reasons for not liking the price, and to call me "rude" is just a petty, ignorant accusation on your part. What I said was that, for most people, this all boils down to money. You can claim that money has nothing to do with it, and it's the principle of the matter, and that every dev with a simple game has to adjust to the current market, etc. But honestly, at the end of the day all your complaints boil down to money as well. You may be in complete and utter denial about it, but the fact is, you're complaining about price a.k.a. MONEY. So I may not have said it before, but i'll say it now. If anyone's lying about their reasons for not buying this game, it's YOU.
Thanks, Hodapp. Didn't even think about checking the settings. Should we consider starting separate Canabalt threads? One for those who want to discuss/argue about the game's cost and one for those who want to talk about the gameplay and/or brag about their high scores?
Just want more gameplay for the $3 I guess. I own every single nimblebit game. None of them were $3(most were $.99 before you raised them) when I bought them, and even those pickup and play games have more gameplay. Do I like the music and effects of Canabalt. HELL YES. But most of it to me is about the amount of gameplay in relation to the price being charged.
