I have no idea what you are talking about, I just think Canabalt is a great game for the iPhone and iPod touch!
As I said on the frontpage comment thread to the folks saying it isn't worth $3 things are worth what people will pay. Clearly a lot of people are willing to pay $3 for Canabalt on their iPhone. You might think those people are idiots, and that's fine, but by definition, if people will pay $3, then it's worth $3, just maybe not to you. Either way, the price isn't a bad move if they can sell it why wouldn't they want to make the extra money? It'll come down in the near future and then they'll make another round of sales at $2 or $1. For me, ordinarily I would hold off, but I've put so much time into the webgame at this point that I feel like some of my $3 is rewarding Adam for that version, and I'm a-okay with that. The iPhone version is polished, fun, and just as addictive as the Flash version. By contrast, I played "Run" Lite, since everybody's asking why you'd by this when Run is cheaper, and I had absolutely no desire to pay for that game - it just didn't feel nearly as polished and fun to me as this does. If you don't want to pay $3, don't. It'll drop, and probably soon. For now, I'm glad the game elling well to those of us who are willing to pay the exorbitant ( ) sum of $2.99. Yes, the game is simple, but it's polished and slick as hell.
You're right, with our inside knowledge of the effort it takes to create a successful game we should be the last ones to appreciate his efforts!
don't worry about freedog, he's in collusion with one of canabalt's competitors to give it a bad name. arn
no Im just mad that I cant afford one of Ian Marsh's $.99 games because I spent all my credit on this one.
The game is great and well worth $2.99 (honestly, support the developers who made an excellent game. Just because it is pick-up-and-play does not mean it is only worth $0.99). However, online leaderboards would be nice for the future.
Well we only have one game priced at $0.99 right now (Bluebird) and I can guarantee you that it look MUCH less time and effort to make than Canabalt!
Content Discussion/Questions Hey developer, really liking the game so far and can't wait for update! A couple things: How about an option to turn music off but keep sound effects? The music is great (I know a lot of others agree), but after so many hundreds of games played, even the best music can grow tiresome. It'd be cool to play one's own music. Also, are you considering content upgrades in future versions? I wouldn't want to change much about the game, though some sort of new character action or obstacle might spice things up. Other than that, and keeping in mind that online scores are imminent, only a pause button is on my wish list. Thanks again for the great game and your attention, and keep on keeping on.
To be honest it's not the developers or the consumers fault this has happened, it's other devs letting people push them into selling at low prices. Okay so maybe Canabalt is worth $2.99, but it's no secret that you can easily pay less for something else that will probably last longer. If I had $2.99 right now I'd buy 3 x $0.99 apps with the same amount of content, possibly more. Once all (or most) developers start pricing their games properly, this won't happen anymore. If that day ever comes...
I tell you what, I'd rather donate extra to the music composer. The actual game without the music...generic.........
