Ahh... the 99c brigade are out in full force....

I knew this was a free flash game, but wanted a version to play on my iPhone and bought it without hesitation. I felt this was affordable and I am happy to support the developer so they will provide updates and the next cool game for me to play.

    Lite version request - laughable!

Let the market decide = 100% agree! everything can't start at 99 cents and and being an owner of a PSP, DS and PS3, I truly appreciate the cost of buying games and whilst this game is simplistic in it's execution, it is a great game and worth every penny IMHO.

Check out other console game pricing and truly appreciate the cost of your iDevice games before you moan about playing $3.

    Peace!

If anyone is running a jailbroken 3.0 iDevice and doesn't want to upgrade to 3.1 for this game, there's a new app on Cydia called FWChanger that can trick apps into thinking you're running a different firmware.

I don't know whether it'll work with Canabalt or not yet but hopefully someone can try it and report back. I want to play this game but don't want to lose my jailbreak.

£1.79? I played the web version rather a lot and to me, that price is more than fair for having it on my iPod too.

Yes, you can play the full game for free, so the argument that it should be 59p is completely backwards. Do you want Semi Secret to use that £1.19 (Apple gets the rest) to make an even better game or 39p? If you have any sense guys, you won't drop the price for whinging cheapskates.

If you don't want to spend £1.79 on it then don't. That's how capitalism works. No-one is forcing you to buy it.

You make some good points. I own a DSi, PSP, PS3 and Wii and the cost of down loading a game compared to the app store can be very expensive. I am a fairly new ipod touch owner but in the past I have purchased several games on my other systems in the $8-$10 range only to now find them for .99 for the ipod touch.

I will say that I have very quickly become spoiled with so many choices in the app store. With so many games to choose from I have started to really look at how much I spend on a game.

Clearly this game is worth 2.99 just as a ton of the games out there are worth more than their going rate.

I have really been wondering the thought process that goes into the pricing. If a game sells X amount more times at .99 than 2.99, is it worth it then or does it not really work that way?

I agree too, but that's beside the point. Most of the people who use the App Store ARE whinging cheapskates, and there's little we can do about it. You can go on and on about how £1.79 is a perfectly good price, but if the whinging cheapskates don't agree, the game simply won't make as much money.

    Slaving peon.
Not here; not there; not anywhere!
I first played the original flash game a while back, and I think the iDevice version is totally worth it. Terrific little game. I love the music. :)

If you feel the game is worth 2.99, 20.00, or 200.00, that's how you feel.. THat's the price you're willing to pay.

Now it might seem that I'm stating the obvious, but people who feel it should cost less have just as valid of an opinion as you.

If they want to sell a million copies, they will sell it at .99, if they want to sell half of that, they will sell it for more.. it's up to the developers.. We're just stating our opinions.

Also comparing consoles to iphone games is a huge nono.. look at all the content you get in a console game like metal gear, or half life 2, or team fortress 2.. this is a flash game with hardly any depth or verity.

This game is not Fifa 10, that $10 is worth it.. it's console counter part is double if not triple the price, so people that complain about fifa 10 for the iphone need to think about how cdheap it is..

again this is a simpel flash game that should be offered for less (again my opinion)

    1,000,000 * $0.99 = $990,000
    "half that" * $2.99 = $1,495,000

I'd rather sell "half that" :)

Actually, that's not quite true. People who bought the game actually have a more valid opinion if it's worth it or not. And most (all?) of the people who are complaining about price haven't bought the game.

    1,000,00 x $.99 = $990,000
    500,000 x $2.99 =$1,495,000

If you're right, then they obviously made the right financial decision.

    [Edit: I was too slow!]

I think the argument is more about how much most people feel the game is worth, not about how much a dev would like to make and how quickly.

Math FTW. I'm downloading now in hopes that the developer doesn't randomly drop the price due to these price complaints. Don't give in to the pressure Adam Atomic, keep with this price.

i could see how that would work for most of the other apps, but this one is already available in its entirety for us to play for free. and i'm fairly certain that every single person in this thread has played it more than once.

now of course the people complaining about the price haven't bought the game. that's the sort of thing that goes without saying. but that doesn't mean we haven't already played it online. we all have a fair idea of what we're getting for the price. and that's why this particular thread has gone on for more than 20 pages about content versus price. bought or not, we've all experienced it, and all have valid opinions on whether it's worth it or not. good ol opinions.

Yes, but most people on this thread have probably played the game on their computer, so they know what they're getting in the iPhone version. It's a different case than if you had a bunch of posters complaining about Madden 2010 price for example (since there's no lite version to try.)

I'm not going to complain about it, but will probably wait for a price drop before buying this. And if it doesn't come, I can play the flash version if I want.

It's odd for other posters to hope that the developer never drops the price. Eventually the price for this app will drop, if they want to maximize revenue over the long run. Maximize revenue with higher price for early adopters, then drop the price later to increase unit sales. If we're discussing this from the perspective of business strategy, that's what would probably make most sense for the developer overall.

How could you possibly be fairly certain of that? Have you ever participated in an internet forum before? People complain about things they know nothing about all the time. :)
