I should've said this in my first post - I haven't played the game. I'm just going soley by what numerous others have complained about - the snap-to aiming, the lack of sprinting, the strange layout of the move/shoot screen areas, the weird implementation of ADS, etc. It's not like this is Activision's first iOS FPS, either (though it might be this studio's first). I'm merely pointing out that the lack of control customization - moving all icons, having different control schemes - is a step backwards from their previous games (both zombie ports had this), especially considering that they're trying something new here. You can pull out the entitlement argument, but ultimately when you make a shooter on mobile, you have to absolutely nail the controls. It's like releasing a PC port that doesn't allow for graphics and control customization (oh, wait...) - people will get irritated. The single best way to do that is to offer total customization, something that is, sadly, missing here. This will show in real world profits, too: because of the control complaints I'm hearing, I'm forced to put this on my backlog until I finish A8, Infected Wars (another title that needs customizable controls, but at least they stuck to the standard layout), and a few others. Ah, but the developer creates games for the gamer. To not attempt suit their diverse needs (or listen to constructive feedback) is doing both of them a disservice. Pointing out something I'd like to see implemented (and is standard for nearly every other similar game on the platform) is hardly arrogant. Edit- I mean adding standard Gameloft control options, along with the ability to move around the buttons. It'd alleviate nearly any issues with controls. Merely allowing for the fire button to be moved simply isn't enough to cater to the diverse needs of touchscreen shooters.
You haven't even played it? Seriously? So your complaint about the controls wasn't even a subjective, informed or experience of the actual comtrols in hand opinion? Wow. Your disagreement of my opinion wasn't even based on first hand experience. You understand that leaves me in no other position other than to completely dismiss any further statement you make regarding this game. And commenting on controls in a game you haven't played, what is that if not arrogance. Sorry but after reading that first sentence, I didn't even bother reading the rest of the post. I like informed opinion, not reactionary ones.
The button placement is fine, because there is no sprint button, and the ADS button doesn't even need to be pressed because you can just double tap the right side of the screen to ADS. Therefore the only buttons that are used are crouch and swap view, both of which are in fine positions. The snap - aim arrows rarely get "in the way" for me, and I only find myself pressing them when I am intentionally pressing them.
I disagreed with it in principle - saying that touchscreen shooters "aren't for you" if you can't get used to X control scheme is something I do disagree with, regardless of how great you might feel it is. Soon, when life settles down a bit and I have more time and less games on my hands I'll try this out. But until then, I've little desire to purchase this when I can't be sure that the controls will be right for me. One thing I like a lot about Gameloft is that they realize their own default control scheme simply isn't good enough for all, or maybe even most people (remember Bladeslinger?). Based on what I've read from yours and others' posts, I can't say the same for this game or its developers. And that's a shame, because there are some neat concepts here (can't believe I said that about a CoD title).
Me. I'm actually playing it reaaaally slow to enjoy it. And I'm playing it casually, minus survival (without using medkits). I haven't been hardcore searching intel or trying to get the best scores / times. But I'm having a lot of fun this way.. the challenges are just extra
Done And it wasn't as easy as one would think. Great challenge, good competition. There's a good few others I'm simply not to goings to catch you on. I shall keep trying though
The controls are fine... V-stick anywhere on the right side of the screen to control movement. The typical shoot button that can be repositioned anywhere. The ADS is on the left side, but if you don't like that you are able to double tap anywhere on the right side of the screen to ADS (or tap once if your crosshairs are over an enemy). Crouch is on the left corner; which isnt used too much unless you want to approach the mission in a tactical fashion, even then you'll just use the drone view for tactical approach. Reload/switch weapons icon is on the bottom right (I personally like to have my R/S icon on the top right but after playing the game for a while i got use to it and i actually prefer it since its closer to my fire button). Swipe the right side of the screen to look around. And if you're new to ios fps games, Blast Furnace even threw in a lock on feature for you. If you're having trouble moving you're crosshairs over an enemy you can simply tap either the far end of the left or right side of the screen to "snap" onto an enemy. If this thread is keeping you from buying the game because of the amount of attention the touch screen controls is getting, don't let it. Blast Furnace did a great job implementing a control scheme that satisfies the typical ios fps gamer. Plus this game has an extremely fun campaign (which many "hardcore" ios games lack). Some people have asked how does it compare to MC4. They're incomparable. If you want a great multiplayer experience then MC4 will be your choice. If you want a great single player experience then Strike team will be your choice. I doubt anyone plays the MC4 just for the campaign, the campaign is more like a tool for gameloft to show off their fantastic graphics engine. Also there is tons of replay value in Strike Team. Beat the campaign? Go back and complete all the challenges (I doubt you'll complete them on your first go). Beat the challenges? Find all of the intel. Gotten all of the intel? Repeat but on veteran. Why would you do that? Because when you replay a mission I guarantee it'll be a different experience. You'll want to approach situations more tactical - making you move your squad to take different routes. All done with that? Head on to the survival maps and complete all of the challenges, obtain all the guns, level up, unlock all the perks, upgrade your inventory, reach higher waves! By the time your done with this I bet Blast Furnace will add an update with more features. Hours and hours of gameplay and enjoyment. This game is easily approachable by a tactile or run n' gun audience. A negative post will be by someone who has yet to actually "play" the game. Brb ima go do a few challenges in the story mode then hit up the survival mode. Oh and did I mention that there are weekly/daily challenges? :3
That was very informative, thank you. I might pick this up sooner than I thought I would. Can you turn off the snap aiming? You also mentioned the campaign being fun - how long is it? Is it your actual CoD experience, complete with set pieces, absurd story, etc? How's the level design, does it allow for different approaches to situations? I also heard some complaints about the AI, is it as brain dead as Gameloft games or will they flank, take cover, lob grenades, etc?
Yeah was just checking through them and seen you got the 100% And yeah you would think the 100% would be easy but it's actually quite hard lol
I have to agree with rip on this one. The control placements are prett good, this is not a fast paced fps game, and the movement is floating, so you can use any part of the screen for it, same too for view. The fire button is fully customizable. To make comments on the controls, I think ot is only fair to have played the game. The controls work, they are far from lousy, and while it would be cool to have a fully customizable hud and zoom aim on the right, the controls are pretty good. I think it is unfair for the game to be slammed for controls or lack of mp, play the game, and you will see the controls are pretty good, and that the game is really good.
It's a reasonably good game, but there are a few problems. It is truly ridiculous how much content they locked behind a paywall. There are very few weapons. You can't equip the sidearm you want. Weapons in 2020 still manage to be ridiculously inaccurate. Enemies detect me whether I'm actually around them or not (That got me a lot of pain on the Chinese part.) It needs to be better. As it is, it doesn't get 5 stars from me. It just feels unfinished, and that irritates me since I paid 7$ for it. (7$ bucks and I STILL HAVE TO PAY FOR SOME GUNS!) If they improve it, and add physical controller support, I will be very happy and probably spend a lot of money on their IAP. Until then, I'm deleting it.
Sniper for that particular challenge. It does require a fair bit of quick scoping skill, which I don't particularly have so I relied on the iron lung a lot for it. @Connector. You and me in agreement? The world truly has turned upside down Seriously though, thanks.
Same with rip I do a few quick scopes but a lot of the time I will use iron lungs just to make sure I don't miss lol
