Seems like it may be fun, but after reading the "tutorial", I've determined that I have no idea what the hell is going on. I tried to play a single player game anyway and was completely lost. Just a suggestion, when you call something a "tutorial", you set up an expectation of some sort of interactive explanation of the game, not a vague description. I'm sorry, but first impressions matter, and I think the explanation of the game is pretty poor. I figured out Ascention and Kard Kombat without any problems.
Similar experience here. The section should really be titled "Rules" or something; definitely not "Tutorial." Whatever it is, it is entirely overwhelming for someone coming to this with a clean slate. I tried to just jump into a single player game but no clue what's going on. An actual tutorial is sorely needed.
Agreed. All this hype during the beta phase ... and no one thought to include an actual tutorial? Are they being serious with this? Why do some developers think we magically know how to play their games?
Okay, it's downloading, impressions later. About the tutorial. The complains are just, hands down, it's not the best tutorial out there. However, you're depriving yourselves of a REALLY good game if you don't try at least a couple of matches first. Seriously, just try it. It works after some tries, I mean it happened to me. EDIT: Oh and for those who don't want to stuck with a bad initial choice, just try the offline mode. You can experiment with all four cabals there. By the way, the app works just fine. Finally I can see and READ everything on the retina.
Sticks. That's disappointing to hear about the tutorial. I consider myself, well, not stupid... But I'm not in the market to be confused or irritated. Life is too short. If a tutorial is added, I will jump back in. For now, sigh.

Probably 3-4 months ago in the "upcoming" thread. The devs responded to. I think there's a post by me there on it. They more or less referred me to their website where I think there's a half page how to play section but still I was scratching my head. So it's not like this hasn't been raised. Have downloaded but can't play yet but I have a suspicion it's the same "tutorial" from the beta which is the same one on their website. As stated 3 months ago, tutorial needs to be better. Good game in beta regardless so overall thumbs up for devs. LawLessLove Well-Known Member Nov 18, 2010 500 0 0 #130 LawLessLove, Nov 29, 2011 I like how short the tutorial is, it could be a little more in-depth though. It would be worst, if you made it around 20 paragraphs like Necronomicon. I had to figure out that the pointy crystal thing signified your resources and that the castle tower represented your dominion points. How you accumulate resources and dominion points, how to deploy units/use abilities and the meaning of the different symbols on the board and cards are other things that need clarification. The learning curve isn't that steep and I'm accustomed to figuring out game interfaces, but I don't think that a game's UI and rules should be puzzles to solve. Lacking tutorial aside, this just went into my folder of games that's forever going to be on my iPad. I'm really looking forward to the updates that allow for disposal of excess cards and earning Influence through playing, however. EDIT: I just looked at the main website's tutorial and that actually covers a good bit of what I said above. Why exactly is the website tutorial not in the game. jonnycache Well-Known Member May 14, 2011 154 0 0 #132 jonnycache, Nov 29, 2011 iPad version is tops. It is not a tutorial and is, at best, a cursory summary of the rules. Many developers are guilty of this and it appears Kyy are no different. Apparently their website contains a more extensive tutorial; why wasn't this added to the iOS release? A complex game like Cabals needs a thorough explanation of the rules and, preferably, an interactive tutorial that potential players actually find useful. I hate it when the rules to a game end up as just another puzzle to solve; it shouldn't be that way and is unnecessary. A highly anticipated game's release has, in my eyes, been marred by a neglected "tutorial". Agas Well-Known Member Jan 28, 2011 2,347 0 0 #135 Agas, Nov 29, 2011 Definitely needs tutorial. Try the first game and I'm like doing trial and error. Quitting is considered a lost and that's bad for the statistic. There's should be a guide on how to play with the real game and not just explanation on how to do it. I agree with the negative sentiments about the tutorial, but it's not SO bad. It helps if you play some matches offline, try out every cabals, choosing your favourite, then build a deck around it. After a couple of matches against the AI, you'll know everything needed for a ranked match. You'll be much more confident. ressique Well-Known Member May 15, 2011 67 0 0 #138 ressique, Nov 29, 2011 Lovely game It has so much potential. I really hope the dev. will keep up their work to enhance it further; e.g. more maps, more cards etc. I think it was a wise decision that it is possible to play with different devices within different systems, because a lot of similar games have the deadly problem of a lack of players and this procedure could be the right answer. Nice work, I will support the game Espekayen Well-Known Member Mar 30, 2011 451 0 0 Hertfordshire, UK #139 Espekayen, Nov 29, 2011 I don't understand this attitude that developers have where they assume people will magically know how to play their games. The "tutorial" feels like it was added on at the last minute as an afterthought. Granted, not all games need an extensive tutorial, but complex card games like Cabal most definitely do. This is very disappointing. I now predict players will post a myriad of questions in this thread regarding the rules, leaving other players and the developer to answer them as best they can. This is a very sloppy way of dealing with FAQs when it should all be in the tutorial in the first place. Unfortunately, Kyy are not alone in this respect; many game threads in this forum have become just an extension of the game's rules, with confused players asking for clarification. Gabrien Well-Known Member Nov 24, 2009 5,148 0 36 #140 Gabrien, Nov 29, 2011 The problem is with how much is expected of the player to put in before they begin to receive any sort of gratification. Gratification with games like this comes from understanding the rules and forming successful strategies. How much is a totally new player expected to put into the game before any sort of pay off? Way too much I think. I've now played through four offline games, lost all four, and am still not beginning to even approach full understanding of why I lost, much less any sort of forming of winning strategies or tactics. That's roughly an hour I've put into this game without any sort of pay off. Why have I even put in this much? Well, the interface looks polished, the art is appealing, the sounds are tastefully appropriate, etc. At face value the game really comes across as a class effort and I have put in that time because I suspect it may be worth it. But face value will only get you so far with limited time and literally hundreds of other games jockeying for it. I closed the app after my last attempt feeling no wiser than I did after the attempt before. I've no desire at the moment to go for attempt number five. Perhaps I'll feel different later, perhaps I won't and will just delete it. I'm not sure whom the developers were aiming this game at, but if the average, un-pre-educated gamer was anywhere near the top of their list, they'd better kick it up a few gears to have much hope of capturing their attention.
