Wow. The first game I play in a long time, I get matched with a level 47 player when I'm level 7. And a friend I just referred to the game said he got matched with someone around level 63 when he's like level 2. That's just ridiculous. I'm sure neither of us will be playing random matches anymore. I don't remember that happening in the past when I played online games - is matching broken or are all the online players just now really high level??
C'mon, Dude! Play one game and then avoid because you drew a high ranked regular? That's just the luck of the draw in effect. I've played people way up on the list and people way down on the list. Bear in mind that those who eventually decide the game is not for them are likely to have lower ratings meaning the average ratings are liable to be a bit higher that the standard 1200. Even so, playing with a higher ranked player does not automatically mean a mismatch or a rout. If you win, you might pick up an obscene number of rating points. If you lose, you lose very few. The system seems pretty fair. The other night, I played against someone ranked #15 on the list. Right after that match, I played someone with a rating under 1100. Been playing since day one. Not a lot, but the game is staying on my device for years to come.
I'm not talking about ranking. I'm talking about level. With a sixty level difference, that player has way more experience and much better cards. When my friend told me it happened to him, I thought what you did, that it was just a fluke. But then it happened to me too. Twice for two different people no longer seems like a fluke. As for ranking, a system should match people closer to each other in that regard as well. Usually people high in rank are there for a reason - skill and a good deck. Beginning players just aren't going to be able to compete with that and will become quickly discouraged.
Your call, but twice for two people is still a pretty small sample. I'm afraid the kind of ranking for matches you suggest is never going to be in the cards, but I agree, it would be ideal.
I'll continue playing single player and with my friend. I definitely like the game. I just don't feel like playing Russian roulette when I don't always have a lot of time to play to begin with.
It's a very good argument. Currently the Rating-system tells you how good someone is in PvP. Would it be reasonable to have double matchmaking criteria: Rating&Level taken into consideration? Actually levels say nothing about the PvP skills. Personally I think number of PvP matches played, win% and deck strength matters much more than level. Maybe the level should just be hidden because its misleading and irrelevant. I understand that for new players the high levels opponents do feel like an unfair matchup and we have discussed this dilemma quite a bit internally. We've had players who reach the level cap w/o playing a single online match. They find it very unfair to lose to a level 5 player who has only played online matches. But I guess nobody likes losing anyway, I know I don't -Mika
