I love the idea but a tournament may prove problematic in a synch environment. Time zone differences may be impossible to overcome. For instance, if I am matched with Yuri in Moscow, we are 9 hours apart. Say I can only be online from 7pm to Midnight my time - that's 4am to 9am his time. If he has the same constraints (hey, our real life jobs, wives and kids get in the way), we can never meet and play.

Hopefully, Async can eventually be implemented. That would solve all problems, including the time out issues, which are still there.

    True.
    We'll see how it goes.
This tournament is organized by Cabals Community and we have agreed on these terms.
In the future, there will also be tournaments that last a full week, and everyone has equal chance to participate, despite the time zones.

Async games in tournaments would probably last quite awhile as well and they would suit the week long tournaments better?

Async was used quite effectively in the Ascension and Kard Combat tournaments I entered, with brackets generated by some online service (can't remember the name).

Ascension players were monitored by someone and if players took too long to play, they were eliminated. In KC, the timing issue was monitored automatically.

I think they most certainly will. Hero Academy is holding a tournament right now, going on the second round, and the first lasted about a week, made possible and convenient by async.

If, at some point in a theoretical future, you ever arrive at that rainy day where there is nothing left to code, a replay system (with replays uploaded and preferablty accessible through an in-game browser) would probably do wonders for tournaments and other competitive elements of Cabals. And while community-organized tournaments such as these have proven to work very well on the platform, the true competitive dream would be tournaments, ladders and leagues directly integrated into Cabals.

    time to influence development again!

We're currently implementing rematch-option and enhancing the end screen.
Which data would be the most interesting and important to see in the end screen?
This is all tightly related to the online rewarding system that will be introduced in the upcoming update.

    a) Rank
    b) Rating
    c) Win%
    d) Matches won
    e) Experience & Level
    f) Mutual games played (You 5 - 5 Them)
    g) Other

Also remember to sign up for Cabals tournament at:

Head to head record vs other players would be nice along with rematch option.

Looking forward to new factions/more cards

Haven't played in a while but I did need a break. Cabals is still one of my favorite games and I intend to be playing again soon.

The developers have done an outstanding job with the game and their support. Looking forward to playing for a long time to come.

All of them, really. The usefulness of end-game stats grow exponentially the more stats the screen includes. As long as they are just letters and numbers (not 3D bar charts, rotating achievement medals, a little striga throwing kisses and anime-style hearts at you for a job well done, etc ;) ), you should be able to fit them all in there, even framed by some fancy graphics ;)

With the latest and definitively greatest update of Cabals and the introduction of rewards for multiplayer, I'm going to start playing online big time, in preparation for async.

However, Kyy Games, might we beseech you for some more traditional friend functionality? Adding users by their names/email, a list where we can see if they are online (combined with user profiles, etc, all very conductive to an active multiplayer community), and, if so, invite them to a game? While yer at it, a traditional lobby, where we can create both open and password-protected/invite only games.

Challenging friend with an accompanying push notification, a mechanic used in async games and in some realtime multiplayer games, would also do wonders for friendly matchmaking.

The current system is extremely limited. To be able to actually play against a friend, we'd basically have to be on another phone, since we can't even exit Cabals to send the friend code without breaking the matchmaking connection. This also puts a very effective stopper to building up a number of online-only friends, or friend-adding strangers after nice games.

Uh, I think this last update broke the game saving upon closing the app. I tried playing a single player game, and after doing something else and then coming back to the game (having to login again), the game was gone.

I also tried a multiplayer game. I got a phone call during the game, and after that was done, when I returned to the game, it said I timed out (and as a result lost exp. and ranking). That's just lame. For any mobile game, there needs to be a minimum acceptable away time for each turn. Either do it like Ascension, in which players can set the amount of time (which is the total amount of time a player can delay all turns throughout the game), or simply have a set time, like 1 day - better if players can set it themselves though.

I was so excited to be able to get into playing since the ability to continue games was fixed, but it looks like I'll have to stop playing again. :(

Why is it that sometimes I'll have enough resources to play a card but the card will be greyed out and unplayable?

    Hi Artfoundry,
    Mechanism is called [Loyalty cost]
    See: howtoplay, slide 5/10

"Cards become cheaper to play for each identical loyalty already in play"
Note: your hero always counts as one.

As a response to your earlier question about why you might lose a game during your phone call:
The online game is supposed to be played in one go. Player has 1 minute idle timer after which the game is lost if no action is taken, and 4 minute turn timer after which the turn passes to the opponent.
If you kill the application or boot your phone the single player game will not be saved, however you should be able to continue the single player game after any period of time as long as the application has been "alive in the background".

    Hopefully this helps.

    Cheers,
    Mika
